ENGLEWOOD, Fla. -- Ernest L. Edgerly died on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at St. Petersburg Bay Front Medical Hospital. Born on Feb. 11, 1928, he was one of 13 children, six brothers and six sisters. He was the son of the late James Edgerly and Elva Durkee Edgerly. He married his wife of 59 year, Thelma Ruth Antonsen, on March 13, 1946. After returning from two years' active duty in the United States Navy, he built his first home in 1950, in Queensbury, where he resided for 13 years. He also built a year-round camp at Summit Lake in 1956. In 1963 he purchased a 75-acre farm in Greenwich, where he bred and boarded thoroughbred horses for 10 years. In 1985, he also purchased a home in Englewood, Fla., where he made his home for six months a year. He enjoyed boating, water skiing, scuba diving and helping others. While in Englewood, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle with the "Over the Hill Gang." He was a 50-year member of Local 773, the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union of South Glens Falls. He was predeceased by his son, Edward, in 1977. Survivors include his wife, Thelma of Fort Edward; two sons, Ernie and his wife, Kim, of South Glens Falls, and Eric and his wife, Lynn, of Cossayuna; along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of which he loved spending time with. "Granny" Eldridge, 67, of county Route 11, Alpine, N.Y., passed away on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at Cayuga Medical Center, Ithaca. He was born on Nov. 1, 1937, in Glens Falls, the son of the late Kenneth R. and Kathleen VanSchaick Eldridge. Mr. Eldridge was a truck driver who drove for the C.R. Clark Co. in Horseheads, N.Y. In addition to his parents, Lee was predeceased by his brother, Jay Eldridge. He is survived by his most devoted companion, Ella Detrick of Alpine; a daughter, Tina (Carl) VanZile of Alpine; two sons, Guy (Debbie) Eldridge of Alpine, and Kevin (Joann) Eldridge of Newfield, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Janet (Robert) Wood of Lake Luzerne, and Alta (Gerald) Usselman of Warren, Ohio; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; special friends, Butch, Red, Jimmy John, and other extended family. Published in the Post-Star on 2/13/2005. Ellsworth, Jerry HIGH VISTA, N.J. -- Jerry Ellsworth, 77, of High Vista, N.J., passed to the hereafter on Friday, Feb. 4, 2005. His four children were with him as he spent his final days at his daughter's home in Princeton, N.J. Jerry was born in Glens Falls, the son of Herbert Ellsworth and Fannie Somerville Ellsworth. After graduating from Hudson Falls High, Jerry spent two years in the U.S. Navy before getting his degree in chemical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He married Lila Adams in 1952, and they moved west to Farmington, Mich., where he began many years as a father, entrepreneur and self-styled "peddler," raising four children while designing and building specialized machines to serve the automotive industry. After moving to North Carolina in 1989, Jerry and Lila immersed themselves in the community and culture of Western Carolina, which they loved. An avid hiker, gardener, golfer, Boy Scout, Presbyterian, lifelong learner and community organizer, Jerry found outlets for his many interests and generously volunteered his time and many talents to help others. An Eagle Scout to the end, Jerry truly embodied the spirit and livelihood of the oath he took. He served God and his country, he sought to help others at all times and he set a physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight example for his children and grandchildren. Jerry touched many lives with his gregarious and generous nature and will always be fondly remembered by his many friends and family. He joins Lila, his wife of 51 years, who preceded him to heaven one year ago. He is survived by his four children: Georgia E. Carroll of Princeton, N.J., David A. Ellsworth of Portland, Ore., Andrew J. Ellsworth of Bellevue, Wash., and Lee E. Ecton of Cromwell, Conn. In addition Jerry has 11 grandchildren: Brad and Ryan of Connecticut, Brittany, Jack and Gabe of New Jersey, Taylor, Sam and Stuart of Washington and Sarah, Hannah and Ben of Oregon. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at Mills River Presbyterian Church in Horse Shoe, N.C. Fletcher, Richard "Dick" INDIAN LAKE and OAK HILL, Fla. -- Richard A. "Dick" Fletcher, age 80, of Cedar River Road, died Saturday morning, Feb. 12, 2005, at Bert Fish Medical Center, New Smyrna Beach, Fla. Born on Feb. 10, 1925, in Johnson City, he was the son of Alvinza and Florence (Coddington) Fletcher. He married Ethel Wakely O'Brien on Dec. 10, 1955, in Indian Lake. Together, they owned and operated Wakely Lodge in Indian Lake, opening the lodge in 1958, and the golf course in 1970. Dick enjoyed playing golf, fishing, shrimping and being with his family. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Ethel W. Fletcher; one sister, Pearl Tinklepaugh of Binghamton; one son, Thomas O'Brien and his wife, Phyllis, of Pittsburgh; one grandson, Thomas O'Brien Jr.; Cora Forslund, who was like a daughter, and her family; three special nieces, Sylvia Berghela and family, Peggy Rising and family, and Ruby Pigliavento and family. Gorham, Robert SARATOGA SPRINGS -- Robert Gorham of Clinton Street, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at Albany Medical Center Hospital. He was 70. Born on Oct. 17, 1934, in Saratoga Springs, he was a lifelong resident and son of the late Louis and Mary (Bozony) Gorham. Bob was a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War at Ladd Air Force Base in Alaska. He was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and Certificate of Recognition from the Secretary of Defense for Cold War Service as well as the Presidential Memorial Certificate. Bob worked for many years in the water department at the City of Saratoga Springs Department of Public Works. He was a life member and instructor for the National Rifle Association, a life member of the Old Saratoga Muzzle Loading Club, the New York State Conservation Council and the Adirondack Conservation Council. He was also a member of the Saratoga County Conservation Council. Bob enjoyed music and was a motorcycle enthusiast. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by four uncles: John, Michael, Andrew and George Bozony. He is survived by his aunts and uncles: William and Shirley Bozony of Saratoga Springs, Jim and Rita Bozony of Ballston Lake, Helen Bozony-Carr of Ballston Spa, Mamie Bozony and Ruth Bozony, both of Saratoga Springs; many friends including John "Mick" and Jose Potter of Galway, and Elise Innet of Malta; and many cousins. Gift Shop Charities Hammond Sr., Lawrence Karl DECATUR -- Lawrence Karl Hammond Sr., 42, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, Feb. 11, 2005. He was born Sept. 23, 1962, in Cambridge, N.Y., the son of Lawrence W. and Leisa (Phisterer) Hammond. Larry attended Granville High School. He married Elizabeth R. Tucker on Nov. 3, 1984, in Granville. They lived in Portland, Maine, from September of 1985 to June of 1991, when they moved to the Worcester area. Larry was a construction worker and mechanic, and was recently employed by BC Drywall Inc. in Glens Falls. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Hammond of Decatur; a son, Lawrence K. Hammond Jr. of Decatur; a daughter, Tonya Marie Hammond of Decatur; his parents, Lawrence W. and Leisa Hammond of Middle Granville; a brother, William and his wife, Mary Hammond of California; a sister, Lorraine and her husband, David Little, of Poultney, Vt.; several nieces and nephews; and his parents-in-law, Richard and Margaret Tucker of West Rupert, Vt. Hinman, Vera Burns DELMAR and BOLTON -- Vera Burns Hinman, 91, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at the Teresian House in Albany following a long illness. She was born Nov. 30, 1913, in Saint Catherine's, Ontario, the daughter of the late Matthew J. and Elvera (Hendrickson) Burns. As a young girl, Vera moved to Albany, where she graduated from Vincentian Institute and attended Albany State College. In 1933, she married Harold F. Hinman, who predeceased her in 1981. Vera will be remembered by family and friends as an avid tennis enthusiast who could be seen on local tennis courts until the age of 85. She especially loved her summer home in Bolton, where she enjoyed many hours at Huddle Beach with friends and family. She could be seen swimming in her favorite lake from May through October. She also loved traveling in the United States and Europe with her husband, Harold. Her daughter, Debbie Hinman Cullinan, predeceased her on Feb. 4, 2004. She is survived by her son, Tony Hinman and his wife, Thomasina, of Delmar; a daughter, Joyce Butterfield and her husband, Whitney, of South Glens Falls; and son-in-law, John Cullinan of Delmar. Vera will be missed by her grandchildren: Christopher and his wife, Stacey Butterfield, Stephen and his wife, Kathryn Butterfield, David and his wife, Sharon Butterfield, Andrea and her husband, James Hanover, Sarah Hinman, David Hinman and Lydia Cullinan. She also leaves nine great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Connie Cheeseman; and Ann Donohue, a dear childhood friend. Lawrence, Norma LAKE LUZERNE -- Norma Lawrence, age 84, formerly of Lawrence Street, died Friday afternoon, Feb. 11, 2005, at Adirondack Tri-County Nursing Home. Born on Sept. 26, 1920, in Stony Creek, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Muriel (Kenyon) Eddy. She married Roscoe J. Lawrence on Sept. 26, 1953, in Minerva. Mr. Lawrence died on April 21, 2004. Norma enjoyed reading, music and flower gardening with her husband. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, one daughter, Anita Lawrence, and one brother, Loyal Eddy. Survivors include one daughter, Muriel Lawrence and her husband, Lowell, of North Carolina; two sons, Norman Lawrence and his companion, Clare Shattuck, of Lake Luzerne, and Donald Corie and his wife, Barbara, of North Creek; two sisters, Lorna Blanchard of Stony Creek and Mary Hansen of North Creek; one brother, Loren Eddy of Thurman; 11 grandchildren: Deborah Corie of Glens Falls, Vinnie Lawrence of Glens Falls, Darlynn Lawrence of North Carolina, Dvonne Eggleston, Marcus Eggleston, and Kaylee Eggleston, all of North Carolina, Norman Lawrence Jr. of Florida, Paul Springer of Stony Creek, Jean Lawrence, Jay Lawrence and Amanda Shattuck, all of Lake Luzerne; and four great-grandchildren. Repo, James Harley WEST PAWLET, Vt. -- James Harley Repo, 80, of West Pawlet, Vt., passed away Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born on Dec. 19, 1924, in West Pawlet, Vt., he was the son of the late Antonio and Lillian (Duel) Repo. He was educated in the West Pawlet and Granville school systems. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II, in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged at the end of the war. For many years, James worked at Ciba Geigy (Hercules). His hobbies included doing crossword puzzles, his greenhouse and gardening, making bread and pizza, visiting the Amish and chatting with friends, neighbors and relatives. Survivors include his three children: Syndonna Anoe and her husband, James, of Granville, Mary Repo-Martinez and her husband, Jesus, of El Paso, Texas, and Anthony Repo of Hudson Falls; one grandson, Jason Martinez of El Paso, Texas; and James' companion, Jane Cleaveland of West Pawlet, Vt.; and several cousins. Rodrigue, Mary Ellen "Mimi" VOORHEESVILLE -- Mary Ellen "Mimi" Rodrigue, 58, of Swift Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at her home, with here family by her side after a long illness. Born Jan. 3, 1947, in Richford, Vt., she was the daughter of the late Oscar Fletcher Norton and Stella Muriel (Stienhour) Norton of Newcomb. Mimi lived in Voorheesville for the past 37 years. She was the owner of Sun City Tanning Salon on Central Avenue in Albany for seven years, and president of M & R Drywall for 30-plus years. Mimi loved her family and her home and lived for her grandchildren. Her generosity was overwhelming when it came to opening her home and heart to friends and family. She was predeceased by her parents, listed above. Survivors include her husband, Claude G. Rodrigue; her children: Darshan Little (Perry) of Voorheesville, Claude H. Rodrigue (Angel) of Altamont, Jean Claude Rodrigue (Sara) of Voorheesville, and Andre Rodrigue (Meghan-Stuber) of Voorheesville; her grandchildren: Chantel and Michelyn Little, Colin and Vanessa Rodrigue, and Andrea and Claude Rodrigue; and her siblings: Bill Norton of Glens Falls, Larry Norton of Watervliet, Nicky Norton of Glens Falls, Buzzy Norton of Newcomb, Connie Fontaine of Corinth, and Bonnie Potter of Newcomb.
