Born on April 19, 1940, in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late Abraham and Marguerite (Boyer) Deso. On July 5, 1959, she married James J. Butler in South Hartford. JoAnn was employed for many years at Mallinkrodt in Argyle and most recently worked at Bates Industries in Moreau. She loved spending time with her family and going to lawn sales with her husband. JoAnn also enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, watching birds and going on family vacations in Maine. JoAnn was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Edward J. Deso; her son, Timothy J. Butler Sr.; and her grandson, James Yasko. Survivors, in addition to her husband, James J. Butler of Hudson Falls, include her children, SuAnne (Edward) Yasko of Fort Edward, Marguerite (Craig) Saunders of Glens Falls, Mary Beth (David) Seabury of Whitehall, Sharon Butler and her fiance, Wes Cary, of Hudson Falls, Thomas (Tracy) Butler of Dunnellon, Fla., Sheila (Timothy) McDougall of Argyle and James J. Dashnaw, 85, of Ferry Boulevard, passed away on Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital, after a long illness. Born on Jan. 15, 1920, in Lyon Mountain, N.Y., he was the son of the late Frank and Dora (Lancto) Dashnaw. Alfred graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1938. On Feb. 1, 1942, Alfred married Vida Mumblow at the former St. Paul's Church in Hudson Falls. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945, during World War II in North Africa and the European Theatre of operations and received the Bronze Star Medal. After being discharged from the Army, he attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs on the GI Bill for 2 1/2 years. For 27 years, he was employed at General Electric Company in Hudson Falls and Fort Edward. Alfred was a communicant of St. Mary's/St. Paul's Church in Hudson Falls. He also was a Eucharistic minister in that church and at St. Michael the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls. Alfred was a member of the American Legion Post No. 553 of South Glens Falls. His enjoyments included reading, singing, practical joking and speaking French. Besides his parents, Alfred was predeceased by his five brothers, Frank, Edward, Clarence, Marvin, Arthur and Robert Dashnaw; and two sisters, Marion Myers and Dorothy Benjamin. Survivors include his wife, of 63 years, Vida M. Dashnaw of South Glens Falls; his children, Alfred A. Dashnaw Sr. and his wife, Linda, of South Glens Falls and Paulette Foote and her husband, James, of Schuylerville; two brothers, Leo Dashnaw and Ernie Dashnaw and his wife, Leona, of South Glens Falls; his sister, Linnette LaBarge of Hudson Falls; five grandchildren, Ann L. HUDSON FALLS -- Frank P. DePalo Sr., 81, of Pearl Street, passed unexpectedly into the arms of the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at the Glens Falls Hospital. Born on May 9, 1923, in Hudson Falls, he was the son of the late Angelo and Maria (LaSarso) DePalo. Frank played football at Hudson Falls High School from 1940 to 1942. Starting in 1946, he was defensive and offensive guard for the Hudson Falls Greenjacket football team. Frank played with his brothers, Pat and Sam, making the team tough to beat with the DePalo boys. Frank was a laborer/foreman at Decan Construction Company for over 20 years. He was a hard-working and conscientious man who enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Frank liked to be a guiding force in their lives. He also loved watching talk shows, sitting in the Hudson Falls park and going to the mall with his buddies to watch the girls. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Nicholas "Nick" DePalo, Angeline Knapp, Josephine Moses, Savino "Sam" DePalo and Mary "Mae" Plummer. Survivors include his children, Frank P. DePalo Jr. of West Palm Beach, Fla., Joseph M. DePalo and his wife, Cathy, of Queensbury, Donna M. Fletcher, Bertha "Bert" GLENS FALLS -- Bertha "Bert" Fletcher, 89, passed away Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at Adirondack Tri-County Healthcare Facility. Bert was born in Moira, N.Y., on May 28, 1915. She was the daughter of the late Fred "Mac" and Mabel (Trumbul) McDonald. Bert married Erwin "Ike" Fletcher on Oct. 20, 1940, in Glens Falls. Bert enjoyed reading, knitting, gardening and painting. Bert was very family-oriented and was always available to family and friends. While raising her daughters, she was very involved in school and community activities. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a 20-year member of the Glens Falls Hospital Guild. Besides her parents and husband, Bert was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Grant; a brother, Merl McDonald; and a son-in-law, Donald Dean. Bert is survived by two daughters, Faye Newbury and her husband, Paget, of Corinth, and Janet Dean of Plattsburgh; five grandchildren, Gwen (Newbury) Garcia, Brent Newbury, Elizabeth (Dean) Madan, Ellen (Dean) Gricoski and Sara Dean; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Vera Ellis; brothers, Earl McDonald and Donald McDonald; and several nieces and nephews. MacMore, Ruth Nailor HUDSON FALLS -- Ruth Nailor MacMore, 85, of 2 St. Paul's Drive, Hudson Falls, died at Glens Falls Hospital, Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, after a short illness. Born on May 16, 1919, in Springfield, Vt., she was the daughter of the late Earl and Winnie (Richardson) Nailor. She married Stanley S. MacMore on Oct. 1, 1945. They lived for many years on Vaughn Road in the Town of Kingsbury. Mr. MacMore died on May 15, 1985. Ruth graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1937, and attended Albany Business College. During World War Il, she worked at the Watervliet Arsenal and in the accounting department of General Electric in Schenectady. In later years, she worked part time at Sears. Throughout her life, Mrs. MacMore was an active member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church. She was also an assistant Girl Scout Leader and a Cub Scout Den Mother. For eight years she delivered Meals on Wheels in the Glens Falls area. Ruth enjoyed camping and traveling with her family. Her hobbies were crocheting and crafts, flower gardening and bird watching. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her older brother, David Eugene Nailor; and her son-in-law, David C. Dearlove. She is survived by four children, Joan M. Dearlove of Hudson Falls, Bruce N. MacMore and his wife, Sue, of South Glens Falls, Cynthia M. Kilday and her husband, William, of Bondville, Vt. and Amy M. Sullivan and her husband, Patrick, of Woodbridge, Va.; four grandchildren, Lynnette D. Dougher and her husband, Tristen, of Hudson Falls, Jason MacMore of Boston, Chad MacMore of South Glens Falls, and William Kilday of Bondville, Vt.; two great-grandsons, Ian and Aidan Dougher of Hudson Falls; and several cousins. Quarters, 66, of Lick Springs Road, passed unexpectedly on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at the Glens Falls Hospital. Born on June 22, 1938, in Indian Lake, he was the son of Marvette (Moulton) Quarters and the late Noah Quarters. On Nov. 4, 1961, he married Ruth Ann Murphy. She passed on Feb. 9, 1988. Roger recently retired as a self-employed logger in this area. He liked to tinker and was very mechanical. The most important thing in his life was spending time with his children, grandchildren and his "bestest" friend, Oscar. In addition to his wife and father, Roger was predeceased by his brother, Francis Quarters. Survivors include his mother, Marvette Quarters of Glens Falls; his children, Tom Quarters of Argyle, Tim Quarters and his companion, Jamie Holland, of Ticonderoga, Mike Quarters of Fort Edward, Susan Linindoll and her husband, Mike, of Hudson Falls and Sandy Chambers and her husband, Mike, of Waddington, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, Tom and Audra Quarters, Nathaniel, Sasha, DesaRay and Leahyann Quarters, Nicole and Kara Quarters and Tyler Linindoll; his brother, Arvin Quarters and his wife, Nora, of Moreau; his two sisters, Vonda Gatchell of Interlaken, Fla., and Sherlyn Hughes and her husband, William, of Queensbury; and his "bestest" friend, his beloved dog, Oscar, who never left his side. Rivers Sr., 69, of Spring Street, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glens Falls Hospital on Nov. 9, 1935, he was the son of the late Leo Henry and Mary Estella (Robare) Rivers. James and Muriel (Hopkins) were married Dec. 7, 1956, in South Glens Falls. He was employed by Glens Falls Armory, Moore's Lumber, Glens Falls Civic Center, Village of South Glens Falls, and Glens Falls Hospital. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, watching the N.Y. Giants and sitting on the front porch enjoying the neighborhood. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his eight brothers: Herbert and Lawrence Trombley, Joseph, Roland, Norman, Francis, William and Fred Rivers; three sisters: Lena Trombley, Loretta Stimpson, and Lorraine Donovan; and his son-in-law, Timothy L. McCane. Soderstrom, 75, former president of Kamyr Group Ltd. of Glens Falls, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, following a brief illness. His death occurred at The Mayo Clinic of the St. Luke's Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. Bjarne Soderstrom was president and chief executive officer of Kamyr Group LTD from 1980 until the time of his retirement in 1988. Before coming to Glens Falls, Mr. Soderstrom was president and CEO of Kamyr AB of Karlstad, Sweden, a position he held for seven years. Prior to working for Kamyr, he worked as a vice president for the marketing division of the Ahlstrom Corporation. Bjarne G. Soderstrom was born Aug. 11, 1929, in Helsinki, Finland, the son of Georg and Elina Soderstrom. He was graduated with a master's degree in pulp and paper chemistry from the Technical University of Helsinki. Following his graduation, he served as an officer in the Finnish Army. He also served as the Finnish trade commissioner to South Africa. In a statement following the death of Mr. Soderstrom, Michael Sherman, retired president of Kamyr, said "Bjarne was widely known and a highly respected leader in the pulp and paper industry." He went on to add that Bjarne's knowledge of the international markets proved to be a major asset to the Kamyr organization during the years they worked together, and "he will be truly missed, not only because of his technical and organizational skills, but for his good humor and always-pleasant manner." Mr. Soderstrom served on many boards throughout his career, including service on two local boards: Sandy Hill Machinery Corporation and the Evergreen Bancorp. Mr. Soderstrom was predeceased by his first wife, the former Ebba Englund, in 2002. He is survived by his second wife, Dr. Katherine Shaw Soderstrom of Greenwich, Conn., and Sarasota, Fla.; a son, Magnus; and a daughter, Katarina Quinn; as well as six grandchildren. Zinni, Miriam Frances Cambridge -- Miriam Frances Zinni, 71, of Fish Hatchery Road, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, after a long illness. She was the widow of Joseph Zinni, who died in 1994. Born Sunday, April 23, 1933, in Boston, she was the daughter of Thomas and Katherine DeLapa Sheppard. She graduated from St. Mary's School in Denham, Mass., and then studied theology at St. Elizabeth's Academy in Allegheny, N.Y. She and her husband moved to Cambridge 25 years ago. Miriam enjoyed rug hooking and making porcelain dolls. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was a very generous person. She was a member of Jacob's Well Fellowship in Cambridge. Survivors include four children, Joseph Zinni Jr. of Assonet, Mass., Louis Zinni of Avon, Mass., Mary Beth Zinni of New Bedford, Mass., and Tony Zinni of Pownal, Vt.; four grandchildren and a dear friend, Dorothy Smith of Clarksburg, Mass.
