Born in Whitehall, Sept. 27, 1923, she was the daughter of the late James A. and Anna T. (Ash) Anderson. Mrs. Belden was a resident of Ticonderoga for most of her life and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ticonderoga. She was employed by the Moses-Ludington Nursing Home of Ticonderoga as a nurse's aide for many years. Mrs. Belden was a member of the Fort Ticonderoga Chapter No. 442, Order of the Eastern Star (O.E.S.) She married her husband, Edward Belden, on Nov. 15, 1941, at the Log Chapel in Putnam Station. He predeceased her on Sept. 15, 2002. Survivors include two sons, Edward A. Belden of Ticonderoga, and William G. Belden of Putnam Station and one daughter, Elizabeth A. Coley of Ticonderoga. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, Wicker Street, Ticonderoga. The Rev. Prudence Bertolino, pastor, will officiate. Braley, Verna Mae (Haskell) THURMAN and SCHENECTADY -- Verna Mae (Haskell) Braley, 74, of The Avenue Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Schenectady, passed away Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady following a long illness. Born in Athol, on June 13, 1930, she was the daughter of the late John and Edna (Smith) Haskell. Her lastest employment was at the Sagamore Hotel in Bolton Landing. Verna enjoyed knitting, crocheting, Word Search and playing cards. Above all, her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren, and attending family gatherings. Besides her parents, her husband of 51 years, Edward Braley Sr., one son, William J. Braley, a granddaughter, Summer Lee Braley, and five brothers all predeceased Verna. Survivors include six children: Edward Braley Jr. and Rose Baker, Julia Dolan and Joseph, Rita Jansen and Frederick, Clifford Braley and Sandy, Cathy Griesemer and Gerald, and Kevin Braley and Nancy; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her sister, Iva Hall. Brown, William Nelson "Brownie" Queensbury -- William "Brownie" Nelson Brown, 71, of Main Street, passed away suddenly at his home Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, from health complications. Born Oct. 5, 1933, in Granville, he was the son of the late Roy and Alta (Moore) Brown. Being raised in the Hudson Falls vicinity, he attended Hudson Falls Central School. Brownie enlisted in the United States Army on January 12, 1955, serving his country at various locations, being honorably discharged Jan. 18, 1957. After returning home, he took employment at Finch, Pruyn & Co. of Glens Falls as a heavy equipment operator working faithfully for many, many years until his retirement. He loved hunting, fishing and going for rides in the country, especially smelling the fresh-grown corn. He always enjoyed telling a good joke, sometimes a bad joke, and always looked forward to a good cup of coffee and conversation with his friends at Wag's Northway Diner. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, who loved him dearly and will miss him so much. Besides his parents, Brownie was predeceased by his two wives, Ruth Gray Brown Bennett, and Lima Walczak Brown; two brothers, Henry and Teddy Brown; and one sister, Coretta Aldous. Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Rich and her husband, Keith, of Hudson Falls; sons, John Brown and his wife, Cindy, of Fort Edward, Mark Brown and his wife, James Spinks, of Florida, Stanley Walczak and his girlfriend, Sue Mattison, of Queensbury, Reggie Denno and his wife, Clare, of Hudson Falls, Gloria Adams of Corinth, and Janice Barttlet and her husband, Don, of Vermont; 11 grandchildren, Julie and Tim Rich, Nicole Brown, Sara, Austin, Stanley III, and Cassandra Walczak, J.R. and James Adams, Cathy Mahar, and Megan Spinks; three brothers, Roy Brown and his wife, Laura, of Greenwich, Harold Brown and his wife, Linda, of Florida, and Lawrence Brown and his wife, Shirley, of Vermont; three sisters, Jennie Holcomb of Granville, Shirley Holcomb of Fort Edward, and Beverly Mead and her husband, Cal, of Granville; also several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. Carter, Marjorie Lake Luzerne -- Marjorie Carter, age 83, of East River Drive, died Saturday afternoon, Feb. 19, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born on Feb. 8, 1922, in North Creek, she was the daughter of Harry C. and Lora E. (Fuller) Jenks. She was raised in Corinth and attended Corinth schools. She resided in Lake Luzerne for the past 58 years. She married Harold A. Carter on March 2, 1940, in Corinth. Mr. Carter died on Jan. 26, 1992. Marjorie had worked as a nurse's aide in the late 1960s and was the tax collector for the town of Lake Luzerne for many years. Marjorie enjoyed bingo and all types of needlework including crocheting, quilting, needlepoint and knitting. She also enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Senior League at the Lake Luzerne Community Center, where she was served as the league's secretary. Survivors include one daughter, Elaine L. Lemieux of Tupper Lake; one son, Kenneth Carter and his wife, Margaret "Peggy", of Corinth; two grandchildren, Jason Lemieux, serving in the United States Marine Corps, presently stationed at 29 Palms, California, and Renee Lemieux of Tupper Lake; two stepgrandchildren, Eric Crisler and his wife, Cheryl, of Hudson Falls, and Alan Crisler and his fianc‚e, Kristin Clark, of Queensbury; two brothers-in-law, Arthur Carter and his wife, Patricia, of Corinth, Paul Dayton of Corinth. Lape, Jane McCaughin PUTNAM STATION -- Jane McCaughin Lape, age 93, of Putnam Station, passed away peacefully at the Moses-Ludington Nursing Home of Ticonderoga on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005. She was the daughter of William McCaughin and Ellen McNulty, and the sister of the late John W. McCaughin. Mrs. Lape was the widow of Thomas V. Lape of Putnam Station, who passed away on June 17, 1971. Born on October 22, 1911, in Ticonderoga, Mrs. Lape graduated from Ticonderoga High School and attended the State University of New York at Albany. From her early college years, she was interested in the local history of the Ticonderoga area. For many years, she was the Curator of the John Hancock House in Ticonderoga, the headquarters of the New York State Historical Society. Later, she became curator and then director of Fort Ticonderoga, where she worked until her retirement in 1989. She authored many historical papers and completed and documented historical research for the Fort. She is co-author of "Patches and Patterns," a book that historically chronicles the people and events of her native town of Ticonderoga. Mrs. Lape's other contributions included past president of the Ticonderoga Historical Society and the Potter Foundation, trustee of the North Country Library Service in Plattsburgh, editor of the Fort Ticonderoga Museum Bulletin and membership on many Washington County and Essex County committees. Mrs. Lape was an amazing woman, in many ways a pioneer, whose passions include her family, horses and her work. She and her husband settled in Putnam Station, working a dairy farm for many years. Fulfilling a lifelong ambition, the cows were replaced with a growing stable of standardbred horses. Sharing the training on the farm's half-mile loop with her husband, their racing circuit spread across many New Hampshire, Vermont and New York tracks, including Saratoga. Mrs. Lape had a unique style of storytelling, making history come alive with humor and anecdotal recollections. She lived a rich and full life, forever committed and loyal to her immediate and extended family. She would often reminisce of life in her rural community and of the adventures of living close to the shore of Lake Champlain. She particularly enjoyed recounting her role as Manager of the Putnam Iroquois men's basketball team and its roster of five that she led to a championship. She is survived by her daughter, Jane L. Bertrand of Putnam Station; seven grandchildren, Dr. Peter Bertrand of Annapolis, Md., Susan Semiz of Warwick, N.Y., Michael Bertrand of Derry, N.H., Frank Bertrand of Sandy, Ore., Bruce Bertrand of Rutland, Vt., Brent Bertrand of Warrensburg, and Matthew Bertrand of Castle Rock, Colo.; nine great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Esther Breed and Betty McCaughin, both of Ticonderoga, and Ruth Lape of Fort Edward; and several nieces and nephews. Lourie, 20, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, from injuries received in a motor vehicle accident in the town of Jackson. She was born Sept. 26, 1984, in Bennington, Vt., the daughter of Douglas Lourie of Greenwich and Laurie (Dooley) Lourie of West Hebron. Andrea was a 2002 graduate of Salem Central School and had attended Adirondack Community College. She was currently employed by Designer Fragrances in Manchester, Vt., and had been employed by High Hopes Caf‚ in Salem, the Cambridge Hotel and Black Creek Flowers, her grandmother's shop in West Hebron. Some of her hobbies included photography and drawing. She enjoyed being with her friends and family, especially her brother, sister, and babysitting. Survivors besides her parents include one sister, Meghan Lourie of West Hebron; one brother, Jordan Lourie of West Hebron; her stepmother, Lisa Lourie of Greenwich; one stepsister, Meko Peregrim of Greenwich; maternal grandparents, Ed and Evelyn Dooley of West Hebron; paternal grandparents, Robert and Eleanor Lourie of Salem; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at the West Hebron United Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Bill Hoffmann, pastor, officiating. He was born on Oct. 26, 1965, in Ballston Spa. Jay attended South Glens Falls schools. He was the owner of J.D. Nudi Construction Company in Saratoga Springs, and was a member of the Saratoga Springs Builder's Association, and the Mulleyville Trail System. His father, Joseph H. Nudi Sr., died in 1986. Besides his mother, Joan M. Waters of Queensbury, he is survived by his wife, Linda (Nordsven) Nudi and a daughter, Jennifer Nudi, both of Saratoga Springs; five brothers, Joseph Nudi Jr. of Scotia, Jeffrey (Patricia) Nudi of St. Louis, Mo., Gerard "Jerry" Nudi of Queensbury, Joel (Deidre) Nudi of Dublin, Ireland, and John "Jack" Nudi of Saratoga Springs; a sister, Janet Nudi of Glens Falls ; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Joel (Karen) Flanders of Quaker Springs; and several nephews and a niece. Published in the Post-Star on 2/21/2005. Olmsted, Norwood W. "Woody" South Glens Falls -- Norwood W. "Woody" Olmsted, 87, of Merritt Road, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at his home. Born in the Town of Charleston, Maine, on Jan. 19, 1918, he was the son of Wendell A. and Ethel Mae (Higgins) Olmsted. "Woody" was a graduate of Higgins classical Institute in Charleston, Maine, and the University of Maine in 1946, with a B.S. in Forest Management. He was active in the Society of American Foresters, Society of American Photogrammetrists, American Forestry Association, American Pulpwood Association, Empire State Forest Products Association, Adirondack North Country Association, New York Forest Owners Association and Canadian Pulpwood Association and the former Adirondack Park Association. He attended the First Baptist Church of South Glens Falls and served on the South Glens Falls School Board for several years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and woodsman, and a founder of Goodnow Flow. "Woody" married Elizabeth (Crocker) Olmsted on Oct. 25, 1947. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by five brothers. Survivors besides his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth, (Betty) Olmsted, of South Glens Falls, include his son, Wesley A. Olmsted and his wife, Debbie, of Newcomb; his daughter, Retired Lieutenant Colonel F. Elaine (Olmsted) Williams and her husband, David, of Puyallup, Wash.; his sister, Rebecca Olmsted Amero of Charleston, Maine; his brother, Raymond Olmsted of Pennsylvania; two grandsons, Charles Olmsted and his wife, Lennie, and Grant Williams; two great-grandchildren, Michael and Roselena Olmsted; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
