Tugas, Lorraine Lynes (Boulette) FREDERICKSBURG, Texas -- On Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, Lorraine (Boulette) Lynes Tugas, died in much the same way as she lived: with determination, faith, and a strong will. Born in Hudson Falls on Aug. 11, 1922, to the late Ernest J. and Celene (Jerome) Boulette. She was also baptized at St. Paul's Catholic Church, initiating her into a Christian life of grace. It guided and strengthened her as she served her family in good and difficult times. She was an extraordinary minister to the sick and dying in her family, pursuing the comfort and dignity that reflected the gospel service she lived throughout her life. Lorraine was sister to four younger brothers: Ernest Jr., Donald, Raymond, and William, all who preceded her in death. She was proud of their military service to their country, and often told stories of their childhood adventures at Loon Lake and on the mountain trails of their beloved Adirondacks of Northern New York. After graduating from Hudson Falls High School, she went to work for the Collins family. She eventually became the longtime bookkeeper at Pender-Tolley Clothing Store on Main Street in Hudson Falls. From her basement office and in the store she spread cheer with an infectious smile and a laugh that could be heard by all. She made wonderful lifelong friends there, encouraging, assisting, comforting, clothing, feeding and offering hope right off the rack. Typical of the times, she waited faithfully for the love of her life, John Kenneth Lynes, to come home from World War II. She married him on June 30, 1946, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Hudson Falls. They were particularly suited for each other, together loving music and dancing, the great outdoors, and quiet nights by the fireplace at the hospitality-filled camp at Pilot Knob at Lake George. Every member of the extended family and hundreds of friends found comfort, warmth, and friendship there. They were not blessed with children of their own, but every niece and nephew knew that Aunt Lorraine and Uncle Ken were always there, whether it was building birdhouses or climbing mountains or soothing childhood bruises. The whole family mourned with Lorraine when Ken died at the early age of 48, on Dec. 12, 1968, following a long struggle with heart disease. Lorraine found love again when she met Alton L. Tugas, also a widower, at St. Mary's/St. Paul's Catholic Church in Hudson Falls, where he sang in the choir. They were married on April 15, 1972. They enjoyed life together and lovingly took care of Lorraine's mother, Mim. Their life was a joy for all to behold, though short-lived when Alton died on Dec. 5, 1975, after a short battle with cancer. She cared for here mom, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease for many years, while still working full time. She welcomed nieces and nephews, traveled some with friends and worked for various civic causes in the area, assisting as well with disaster relief and local Catholic Church efforts. In July of 1999, Lorraine sold her beloved home and moved to Fredericksburg, Texas, retiring to warmer climates to be near her sister-in-law, Philomena "Pat" Boulette. She busied herself helping people at the Brentwood Oaks apartment in which she lived, as well as assisting her sister-in-law in day-to-day activities. In Texas, she celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fredericksburg. There, she also developed a faithful friendship with Sister Marge Novak, OSF, who assisted her after her bout with cancer. Also preceding Lorraine in death were sister-in-law Joan Boulette, wife of Donald, and their daughter, Donna Shaver. Lorraine is survived by sister-in-law, Philomena "Pat" Boulette (Ernest) of Fredericksburg, Texas, and her children, Ernest P. Boulette and his wife, Linda, of Belton, Texas, and the Rev. Michael J. Boulette of St. Peter Upon the Water Spiritual Direction Center in Kerrville, Texas; Donald and Joan's children, John Boulette and his wife, Charmaine of Albuquerque, N.M. and Robert Boulette and his wife, Donna Hart, of Bradenton, Fla.; sister-in-law, Bernice Boulette (Raymond) of Schenectady, and her sons, David Boulette of Cohoes, Marc Boulette of Denver, Colo. and Jonathan Boulette of Greenwich, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Barbara Harnett (William) of Chestertown, and her children, Lynn Marie Bennett and her husband, Edward, of Chestertown, William Stephen Boulette of Chestertown, Susan Rene Griffen of Chestertown, and Renee Ann Feldeisen and her husband, Michael, of Olmstedville. She is also survived by stepson, Lee Tugas of Granville; sister-in-law, Nancy Lynes of Hudson Falls; sister-in-law, Margaret Transom and her husband, George Sr., of Lauderdale by the Sea, Fla.; sister-in-law, Mary Dwyer of New York; David Fisher of Fort Ann, a very close friend of the family; other members of the Tugas family, and forever-faithful friends, Mary Martin of Albany and Charlotte Fowler of Hudson Falls. Lorraine also enjoyed her grandnieces and -nephews: Stephanie Boulette, Clinton Boulette, Robert Boulette, Robin Wiedl with her children, Layne Wiedl and Kohl Wiedl, Amy Lynett and her husband, Patrick, Alithea Mossey, Alexander Boulette, Gregory Edward Bennett, Kimberly Lynn Bennett, Ryan Owen Griffen, Aaron Michael Griffen, Garth William Griffen, Taylor Casey Feldeisen, and Lane Austin Feldeisen. Cremation was planned and interment will be at St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery, Hudson Falls. "Rhubard" QUEENSBURY -- Donald "Rhubarb" A. Ward Sr., 64, of Corinth Road, passed away Saturday evening, Jan. 22, 2005, at his home, unexpectedly, due to a heart condition. Born April 24, 1940, at the family home on Bald Mountain in Greenwich, he was the son of Albert and Ursala (Marceil) Ward. He received his education from Greenwich Central School Systems, and then joined the United States Army in December of 1958, serving two years of his six-year commitment in Germany, being honorably discharged December of 1964. While serving his country stateside, he met Jo-Ann Sullivan on March 23, 1962, in Vermont, and the couple eloped 23 days later to wed on April 15, 1962 in "the little white church" on Route 4 in Fort Miller, bringing them 42 lovely years together until his untimely passing. Since the early 1960s, Don was a dedicated hard working truck driver, who hauled for Frank Parrish and Terry Bouilette, both of Fort Ann, just to name a few. He then owned his own hauling company, after his name sake, for many more years, then hauled most recently for Bruce Fifield of Fort Ann, retiring in 1993. Don enjoyed spending his spare time hunting, riding his four wheeler with his dog, "Buddy", camping on their seasonal site at Smoke Rise Campground in Pottersville, routing for his favorite NASCAR driver, Jeff Gordon, and kicking "Mom's butt" at Skip Bo, his favorite card game. Many fondly knew Don as "The Watcher of Corinth Road," the man who always enjoyed sitting in the front lawn, rotating his chair from spot to spot to keep from the sun, observing the commotion at Stewart's Ice Cream Shop, and watching the world go by. Don was a man who valued his own space, but loved his family and grandchildren, and worked hard to support them, and if he hadn't seen them in a while, would always ask how they were doing and what they were up to. Besides his parents previously mentioned, one brother, Shearl D. Ward, passed away Dec. 2, 2001, and last year, his dog of 17 years, "Buddy," predeceased him. Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years, Jo-Ann Ward of Queensbury; four children: Donald A. Ward Jr. and his wife, Penny, of Argyle; one daughter, Terri Walker, of Argyle; another son, Eugene Ward and his wife, Jami, of Queensbury; and his youngest son, David Ward and his wife, Luanne, also of Queensbury; eight grandchildren: Wayne Maxam, Joshua Ward, Nikki Ward, Jeremy Ward, David Ward Jr., Tatreeanna Ward, Tyler Ward, and Collin Ward; five sisters: Peggy Wilder of Kentucky, Jeanne Freebern of Greenwich, Judy Santa Croce of New York, Rhonda Ward of Gansevoort, and and Betty LeClair of Hudson Falls; two brothers, Bruce Ward of Greenwich and David Ward of Gansevoort; his in-laws, Eugene and Hanna Sullivan of Wilmington, Vt.; many brother and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Friends may call upon the family Tuesday Jan. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Rodney Mosher, pastor of West Mountain Community Church, officiating. Following the funeral service, burial, with full military honors, will be at Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery, Duell Road, Schuylerville.
