She was born Jan. 31, 1920, in West Hebron, the daughter of Lewis A. and Alberta J. (McCauley) Matteson. May was a 1936 graduate of Salem Washington Academy and had received a degree in nursing. She was very active in community affairs including the Two to Read program at the Salem Central School, a charter member and secretary of the Hebron Volunteer Fire Co. Auxiliary for many years, a member of the Hebron Ladies Literary League, a member and secretary of the Methodist Ladies Guild, member and secretary of the Hebron Preservation Society, member of the Jolly Dozen, and a member and holder of several offices of the West Hebron United Methodist Church, the Hebron Grange and the Al Bain Fan Club, where she was secretary. May was a local news correspondent for the Washington County Post, Granville Sentinel, the Journal Press and The Post- Star. Her hobbies included crocheting, sewing, reading, quilting and traveling with the fan club. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by one sister, Madeline Traver. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Willard Bain of West Hebron; three children: Allan W. Bain and his wife, Kathy, of West Hebron, Louise B. Breason and friend, David Rich, of Gansevoort, and Karen J. St. Mary and her husband, Gary, of Greenwich; five grandchildren: John Bain and his wife, Denise, Kelly Bain-Lacoff and her husband, Jeffrey, David Beattie, Robert St. Mary and his wife, Elaine, and Matthew St. Mary; nine great-grandchildren: Marissa, Kegan, Anastasia, Brice, Briant, Calista, Madeline, Jonathan and Isaac; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at West Hebron United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Debbie Earthrowl, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Argyle. Briggs, 76, a resident of Masonic Healthcare Community, formerly of Utica and Hudson Falls, passed away Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center in New Hartford. A memorial service for Nancy will be held in Hudson Falls in the spring. Interment at Pine View Cemetery, Queensbury, will take place at the convenience of the family. Dixon, Ruth Alice (Liddle) GANSEVOORT -- Ruth Alice (Liddle) Dixon, 70, of West River Road, died Friday Jan. 28, 2005, at her home. Born in Argyle on July 17, 1934, she was the daughter of John C. and Edna (Foster) Liddle. Ruth graduated from Argyle Central School in 1955. She married Norman Dixon on March 17, 1961, in Argyle. Ruth was a homemaker and especially loved spending time with and caring for her many children, grandchildren and her great-granddaughter. When Norman retired, they spent many happy months traveling across country. She was an avid nature watcher and especially enjoyed watching the river outside her home and watching the eagles soaring over it. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her infant son, Scott, in 1965; her brothers, Kenneth and David, and her sisters, Florence and Marion. Survivors beside her husband include her five children: Sharon La Freniere and her companion, David Kitchner, of Fort Edward, Gary Dixon and his wife, Maryanne, of Gansevoort, Bruce Dixon and his wife, Laurel, of Gansevoort, Wanda Kenley and her husband, Hank, of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Dawn Wildermuth and her husband, Mike, of Gansevoort; her 12 grandchildren: Kevin and Keith Bennett, Amiee Henningan and her husband, Matt, Stacey Clark and her husband, Jeff, Robert Dixon and Nathan Dixon, Grace Kenley, Sarah Kenley, Emma Kenley, Sean Kenley, Jaclynn Capone and Kendra Capone; her special great-granddaughter, Anna Michele Henningan; her sisters, Marjorie Harke and her husband, Charles, of Argyle, Dorothy Tripp and her husband, Stanley, of Argyle, Betty Goodsell of Argyle, and Patricia Jeckel of Durango, Colo.; her brothers, Stanley Liddle and his companion, Doris Sutherland, of Argyle, and Robert Liddle and his wife, Beverly, of Steamboat Springs Colo.; her sister-in-law, Marjorie Liddle of Argyle; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Fane, 62, of Queensbury, passed away Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 2, 1942, in Schenectady, the son of the late Francis and Helen (O'Neil) Fane. Ed graduated from Norwich University in Montpelier, Vt., in 1965 and Albany Law School in 1968. He had been a practicing attorney for over 30 years and was a founding partner of Fane & Barber law firm. Edward married Susan Peters on Aug. 26, 1967, at St. John The Evangelist Church in Schenectady. His hobbies and interests included model trains, boats, gardening, traveling, Christmas and gift giving. He loved his dogs, Ginger and Barney, his horse, Max, and was a defender of animal rights. He was very proud of his Irish heritage, a great friend to all who knew him, always ready to help without want of recognition. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Nancy M. Fane. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Susan P. Fane of Queensbury; three daughters: Michelle A. Fane-Cushing and her husband, Steve, of Burlington, Vt., Colleen M. Diaz and her husband, Dave, of Somerset, N.J., and Kathleen E. Fane of Somerset, N.J. and her partner, Andrew G. Burgess, of Scotland; and a grandson, Colby "Beaker" S. Fane-Cushing of Burlington, Vt.; his close friends, John and Lil Mac Donald, Ed and Janet Arros, Tom and June Burke, Kay Crosse, Doc Hogan; and many other friends and neighbors to numerous to mention. Foote, 22-month-old son of Christopher and Julie Sharp Foote of Minnie Bennett Road, town of Saratoga, died unexpectedly Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at the Saratoga Hospital. Jacob was born at Saratoga Hospital on March 13, 2003. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Christopher Foote Jr. of Schuylerville; a half sister, Maklia Sharp of Dolgeville; paternal grandparents, James and Joann Foote of Fort Plain; maternal grandparent, James Sharp of Canajoharie; great-grandparents, James and Paulette Foote of Bacon Hill, Richard and Mazie Zelazny of Valrico, Fla., and Patricia and Paul Counter of Bacon Hill; also surviving are aunts, uncles and cousins. McKittrick, Mary "Fran" HUDSON FALLS -- Mary "Fran" McKittrick, 84, formerly of Hudson Falls, and most recently residing with her son and daughter-in-law, passed away on Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital, after a short illness. Born on May 5, 1920, in Bennington, Vt., she was the daughter of the late Elijah and Emma (Roland) Brown. For many years, Fran was employed at Pleasant Valley Infirmary in Argyle. She loved listening to country music and taking long car rides in Vermont. Fran always had to stop for a McDonald's fillet of fish and strawberry ice cream. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Leon McKittrick Sr.; her son, Leon McKittrick Jr.; and her daughter, Betty Abare. Survivors include her sons, James McKittrick and his wife, Linda, of Moreau, and Roy McKittrick and his wife, Josephine, of Hartford; her loving grandchildren: Cynthia Olden and her husband, Kevin, Bonnie Dow, Larry McKittrick and his wife, Leah, Kamie Kearney, Tressa Harrington and Kattie McKittrick; and several great-grandchildren. Rowe, Beulah Joyce HUDSON FALLS -- Beulah Joyce Rowe, 80, who lived most of her life at 21 LaBarge St., and more recently at the Roswell Earl Towers, passed away Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital, after a short illness. Born on April 12, 1924, in Hudson Falls, she was the daughter of the late James and Violet Graham. Her husband, Merritt D. Rowe, passed away in 1991. Beulah had so many friends and was very active in the Zion Episcopal Church in Hudson Falls and the Glens Falls Hospital Guild. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Beulah will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her only daughter, Jo-Ann E. Rowe Monroe; her son-in-law, Terry A. Monroe; and her one granddaughter, Alysia Monroe, all of Queensbury. Friends may call on Monday, Jan. 31, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Zion Episcopal Church, 232 Main St. in Hudson Falls.
