He was 93 years old. Paul was born in Kinderhook, and lived in Albany as a child. Later, he moved with his parents to Schroon Lake. During his life, he worked as a cowboy in Wyoming and as a guide in the Adirondack wilderness. He was a well-known resident of the Adirondack region, where he was a builder (Crear Construction Co.), town councilman, and a writer of wilderness and hunting magazine articles and pamphlets. He built many fine buildings, including log cabins in the Schroon Lake area and the A-frame building at the former Frontier Town theme park in North Hudson. He particularly loved books and lent them to many people. Paul and his wife and children lived on an old-fashioned farm that he had built himself. It was a favorite spot for visitors, with its beautiful scenery, horses and Jersey cows, delicious sweet corn for sale, and Paul's friendly welcome. He was predeceased by his parents, Everett and Marie Eaton Crear; his brother, Everett Crear; his sister, Elaine Crear Bryerton; and his son, Roderick Crear. Paul is survived by his wife, Erika Fogg Crear; his daughter, Lynn Crear Valenti and her husband, Fred, of Plattsburgh; his daughter, Erika Melanie Crear Beck and her husband, Paul, of Johnstown; his son, Paul W. Crear of Saranac Lake; his stepson, John Ahmed of South Carolina; his stepson, Matthew Ahmed of California; and his sister, Muriel Crear Weeks of Montana. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Schroon Lake. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Severance Cemetery. Following the burial, everyone is welcome back to a gathering at St. Andrews church hall. Food will be served and everyone is encouraged to bring memories, photos, etc., of Paul to share. Published in the Post-Star on 7/1/2005. McFarren, Mary J. FORT ANN -- Mary J. McFarren passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born on July 6, 1915, in Fort Kent, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Saba Lucas and the late Latek (Cyr) Lucas. As a child she grew up in North Adams, Mass., and later moved to Whitehall, where she met and married Homer C. McFarren on Jan. 16, 1934. They lived and farmed in Fort Ann. She also worked at the Champlain Spinners Silk Mill in Whitehall for a number of years. Mary was an avid seamstress and loved to spend time in her vegetable garden. She was a past member of the Catholic Daughters Mater Mariae 1663. She was a volunteer with the Hospital Guild for many years, and a member of the Queen Anne Senior Citizens. She was a devout Catholic and was involved with the Charismatic renewal. Mary loved to spend time with her family and share stories of her youth with her grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one son, William Joseph McFarren; one brother, Michael Lucas; and two sisters, Evelyn Stark and Alice Deeb. She leaves three daughters: Marion Rayno and her husband, George, Barbara Rayno, and Carol Havens and her husband, Alton; one son, Thomas McFarren and his wife, Angelina. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Pam Yole, Mark Rayno, Michele Burrell, Melanie Russell, Robert Rayno, Melissa Brosius, Chris McFarren, Kim Campney, Michael Havens, Denise Giarusso, Dianna Rushlow and Danielle Havens; 25 great-grandchildren: Kascy Petrikas, Kylie Petrikas, Kori Rayno, Keri Rayno, Shane Cody, James Burrell, Monique Baker, Jade Russell, Jenna Russell, Joshua Russell, Brandon Baldwin, Zachary Rayno, Caitlyn Rayno, Erinn Rayno, Sarah Brosius, Courtney Brosius, Christen McFarren, Justin Campney, Jonathon Campney, Lauren Rotunda, Fallon Jankowski, Thad Michael Jankowski, Taya Giarusso, Brandon Cusick and Lindsey Rushlow; nine great-great-grandchildren: Caleb Blondon, Jackson Paige, Elizabeth Cody, Mattea Dean, Kenadie Russell, Schyler Russell, Emily Baker, Lillian Baker, and Brynn Gillis; one sister, Katherine Lucas; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Masons Funeral Home, 18 George St., Fort Ann. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Saint Ann's Church, George Street, Fort Ann, with the Rev. Francis Dunbar officiating. Burial will be held at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Whitehall. "Dodi" (Rolf) Tokarowski, 75, of Queensbury, died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at the home of her beloved family in Franklin, Mass. "Dodi" was born on May 4, 1930, in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Nils and Erma (Evangelista) Rolf. She was a 1948 graduate of Gloversville High School. She lived in Gloversville until 1969, when she and her late husband, Frank Tokarowski, built the Northwind Motel and Restaurant in North Creek, which they remained the owners and operators of until 1996. In addition to the Northwind being a thriving business, it was also the location for many parties and gatherings of family and friends. "Dodi" loved traveling, art, music, her family and her large circle of friends. She was loved by all who knew her for her kind heart, humor and love of life. She leaves her daughter, Allyn Lee Klinck and her husband, Bryan R., of Franklin, Mass.; her stepchildren, Paul Tokarowski of Holden, Mass. and Rylee Service of Clifton Park; a brother, Hugh Rolf of Swoyersville, Pa.; and several grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held in the future. Burial will be held at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
