GLENS FALLS -- Virginia F. Benway, 81, a resident of Glens Falls, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born on May 16, 1924, in Kingsbury, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Nellie (Mattison) Chase. Her husband, Raymond Benway, passed away on June 4, 1992. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Dawn Grant; and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include her daughter, Bonnie Campanale, and her son, Keith Benway, both of Fort Myers, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her companion and friend, Robert Murray of Glens Falls; and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Schenectady. There are no calling hours scheduled. Brincil, 83, of Chestnut Hill Road, died peacefully, Thursday, June 30, 2005, at his residence. Born March 25, 1922, in New York City, he was the son of George and Rose (Bernas) Brincil. The family moved to White Creek in the early 1930s. Robbie joined the United States Army in 1944, and valiantly served his country during World War II. He suffered severe injuries that left him permanently disabled and unable to work the rest of his life. He received many awards including One Bronze Battle Star and a Purple Heart. He was a member of American Legion Capt. Maxson Post No. 634, Cambridge, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 2467 in Hoosick Falls, Disabled American Veterans Astoria 29 DAV and VFW Post No. 7291, Greenwich. Robbie enjoyed traveling, gardening and the outdoors. He liked trains - riding them and collecting memorabilia. Survivors include two first cousins, Vincent E. Brincil of Bennington, Vt., and Florence Riegert of Granville; three second cousins: Phyllis Fairley of Bennington, Vt., Jane Brownell of Hoosick Falls, and Claudette Mayer of Scotia. Coon, 90, formerly of Paris Avenue, went into the arms of the Lord on Friday, July 1, 2005, at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home in the town of Fort Edward. Born on March 20, 1915, in Granville, she was the daughter of the late Owen D. and Mair A. (Pritchard) Roberts. Mrs. Coon was a graduate of Granville High School. On Feb. 7, 1942, she married Warren D. Coon at the Granville Congregational Church. Mrs. Coon was employed by the former Imperial Color and Chemical Corporation in Queensbury, was a former secretary at the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson Falls for 13 years and for 11 years she worked for the former E.R. Dickinson, Inc. in Kingsbury. She was a member of the Hudson Falls branch of the Glens Falls Hospital Guild, the AARP of Hudson Falls, Glens Falls Senior Citizens, Hudson Falls Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 632 and the Women's Association of the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson Falls. She was also an associate member of the Hyde Collection and a member of the Hyde Volunteer Council. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Warren D. Coon, on Aug. 22, 1975; her three sisters: Edith R. Jones in September of 1974, Mair Morris on May 15, 1991, and Jane Roberts in April of 1987. She is survived by her niece, Marilyn Thomas and her husband, Lee, of Middle Granville; her nephew, David A. Jones and his wife, Michelle, of Queensbury; her grandnieces and grandnephews, Beth Goodspeed and her husband, Kevin, of Hartford, Sheri Thomas of Granville, Kenneth Thomas of Middle Granville, and David Thomas and his wife, Heather, of Granville; and several cousins. GLENS FALLS -- Gary A. Gray, 56, of Warren Street, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, July 1, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born April 26, 1949, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Howard and Ada (Runnalls) Gray. Gary was a lifelong resident of the area and loved to go fishing and camping. He was a very quiet and caring person, who was friendly to one and all. Survivors include his sisters, Darlene Gray of South Glens Falls, and Jacqueline Koch and her husband, Robert, of Queensbury; his brothers, Howard "Lee" Gray of Stony Creek, and Larry Gray and his wife, Andrea, of Lake George; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Harpp, 71, of Pucker Street, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2005, while doing what he loved most, working in the woods on the family property. Born Jan. 15, 1934, in Chestertown, he was the son of the late Richard and Ethel (Corlew) Harpp. Earl was a lifelong resident of the area and entered the U.S. Army in 1956. He served in Korea before his honorable discharge in 1958. Upon his return from the service, Earl worked in the woods as a lumberman. He spent more than 30 years as the maintenance man at Brant Lake Camp before retiring. Following his retirement, he still enjoyed working during the summer months at the camp. Besides working in the woods, he also enjoyed hiking, going to fairs, auto racing and helping his friends and neighbors with their yardwork. Besides his parents, his sister, Elvira Granger, predeceased him. Survivors include his sisters, Daisey M. Baisley of Pottersville, Beatrice V. Ducale Hartshorne, 62, of Las Vegas, Nev., died Saturday, June 18, 2005, in Las Vegas, Nev., after a long illness. Born May 24, 1943, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Robert W. Stacavich of Gansevoort and Marguerite "Marge" Rockwell of Glens Falls. She was a desk manager in an apartment complex in Las Vegas, Nev., and was of Catholic faith. A brother, Robert W. Stacavich Jr., died before her. Survivors besides her parents include two sons, Craig and Christopher Hamilton, both of Las Vegas, Nev.; three daughters, Christina Hamilton of Maine, Lisa Ducale of Las Vegas, and Cecile Cleaves of Maine; three brothers: Paul Grube and his wife, Ann, of Queensbury, William Stacavich of Glens Falls, and Patrick Stacavich of Texas; four sisters: Geraldine Corlew and her husband, Stuart, of Fort Edward, Mary Ellen Bernard of Gansevoort, Kathleen Halterman of Hudson Falls, and Adrienne Ladd and her husband, Dan, of Fort Ann; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Kaetzel, 44, Mosher Hill, went into the arms of the Lord, to be with his dad on July 1, 2005, at his home. Born on Oct. 20, 1960, in Annapolis, Md., he was the son of the late George Leo and Nina Christine (Myers) Kaetzel. Brian graduated from Ward Melville High School in East Setauket, Long Island. After living in Long Island, for many years, Brian moved to upstate New York with his family. At one time, he was employed by North Country Auto Auction in Clifton Park. Brian loved working on his car. He was a kind-hearted man who loved his family and would give his life for them. Brian will be greatly missed. Survivors include his four brothers: Randy Kaetzel of Hudson Falls, Jeff Kaetzel and his wife, Barbara, of Orlando, Fla., Christopher Kaetzel of Hudson Falls, and Dan Mundell of Hudson Falls; three sisters: Patricia Lafferty and her husband, Raymond, of Hudson Falls; Rebecca Kaetzel of Bay Shore, Long Island and Deborah Kaetzel of California; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Kolinsky, George EAST HARTFORD -- George Kolinsky, 65, of Blood Street, died Saturday, July 2, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital, after a long illness. Born Aug. 4, 1939, in East Paterson, N.J., he was the son of the late Jerry and Charity (Terwilliger) Kolinsky. George was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting and golfing, and had a long and pleasant retirement. Besides his parents, his wife, Kathleen A. O'Donnell, predeceased him. Survivors include his children: Michael Kolinsky, of Fort Ann, Scott Kolinsky and his wife, Tara, of Albion, N.Y., and their daughter, Anika, Jennifer McFarren and her children, Olivia and Gabrielle, of South Glens Falls, Jason Purdy and his wife, Cherie, and their children, Alyssa and Kayla, of Hudson Falls, Mandy Kolinsky of Saratoga Springs, and Tory Kolinsky of East Hartford; and his sister, Elizabeth Delong and her husband, Bernard, of New Port Richey, Fla. Lloyd, Frances Marie (Cheney) DIAMOND POINT -- Frances Marie (Cheney) Lloyd, 87, of Diamond Point Road, went into the arms of the Lord on Friday, July 1, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by loved ones. Born on May 28, 1918, in Ellenburg Center, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Anna (Patnode) Cheney. Frances received her LPN at Mercy Hospital in Watertown. As a child, Frances grew up in Watertown. While working for the Red Cross she met her future husband, Bertram L. Lloyd, who was stationed at Camp Drum. On Nov. 15, 1942, she married him in Shelbyville, Tenn. Frances moved to Diamond Point in 1945 to await the return of her husband from World War II. After 54 wonderful years of marriage, Bertram passed away on Feb. 4, 1996. Frances was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Fort Edward. She was a volunteer at Prospect School in Glens Falls for many years and a member of the Lake George American Legion Post No. 374 Auxiliary. Frances was employed as a reservationist for 45 years at Canoe Island Lodge in Diamond Point for her close friends, Bill and Jane Busch and their children, Karen Cox, Gretchen Hamilton and Carla Burhoe, who called her Auntie. She enjoyed winter trips to Florida with her husband, going to lunch with her friends, reading, knitting and crossword puzzles. Frances especially loved to spend time with her family and enjoyed sharing with them stories of their childhood. She was loved by all who knew her. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her stepmother, Kathleen Cheney; an infant daughter, Sherry Elizabeth Lloyd; one brother, Edward "Tom" Cheney; a sister-in-law, Inez and her husband, Reubin Cooper; her brothers-in-law, Wilbur Lloyd and his wife, Marian, Arnold Lloyd and George Campbell. FORT RILEY, Kan. and CORINTH -- Stephen Z. Madison, 23, of Fort Riley, Kan., died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at the Irwin Base Hospital at Fort Riley, Kansas. Born March 10, 1982, in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of Stephen and Debra (Winslow) Madison. Mr. Madison graduated from Corinth High School in 2000. He joined the United States Army on Jan. 29, 2001, and following basic training, had been stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. He served in Iraq during operation Iraqi Freedom from February 2003 to June 2003, and again from February 2004 until September 2004, when he received injuries that required his return to Fort Riley. While in the Army, Mr. Madison worked as a mechanic on Black Hawk helicopters for three years. He married Mary E. Walsh on Dec. 12, 2002, in Corinth. The couple has resided at Fort Riley ever since. Mr. Madison enjoyed working on cars, playing the guitar and drums, and going hunting with his dad. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Thomas Sr. and Anna Madison. Survivors besides his wife and and his parents include two sisters, Georgia Williams and her husband, Michael, of Barre, Vt., and Stephanie Madison of Corinth; his maternal grandparents, Carolyn Winslow of Phoenix, Ariz. and Robert Winslow of Corinth; two nieces, Kambria and Jessica; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Martin, 90, formerly of 121 Bay St., died Thursday, June 30, 2005, at Eden Park Health Care Center, where she had resided for several years. Mrs. Martin was born March 4, 1915, in Granville, and lived her whole life in the Glens Falls area. On Oct. 3, 1943, she married Albert W. Martin. They were married until his death in 1952. Trilby raised two stepsons, Clarence Martin and Albert C. Martin. Before her retirement in the early 1980s, Trilby worked as a housekeeper for several prominent families in Glens Falls. She enjoyed playing cards and visiting with her friends and neighbors. She was known as "Tillie" by her friends. She loved cats and dogs. Besides her husband, Trilby was predeceased by her two stepsons, Albert C. and Clarence Martin, and a grandson, Albert C. Martin Jr. She is survived by six stepgrandchildren: Sheri Bailey, Jane Flagg, Lorraine Hammond and Cindy Martin, all of Hudson Falls, Bonnie Prosser of Warrensburg and Robert Martin of Texas; 14 stepgreat-grandchildren; and 20 stepgreat-great-grandchildren. (Moses) Pike, 77, of Third Avenue, died unexpectedly Saturday morning July 2, 2005 at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born on Aug. 14, 1927, in Corinth, she was the daughter of the late Agnes (Lanfear) Palmer and Albert Moses. She attended Corinth Central School. She married Edward W. Pike on June 11, 1943, in Lake Luzerne. Mr. Pike died on April 21, 1998. Ruth had been employed at the Hadley Post Office as a clerk, collected census data for Hadley Luzerne Central School and was a substitute mail carrier for the Star Route in Hadley. She was a valued employee of Brewer Funeral Home for more than 30 years. She had worked at Waterhouse Restaurant for her niece, Betty, as well as the Hadley Diner. She served as Hadley town clerk from 1962 to 1968. Ruth also worked at Hadley Luzerne Central School for many years in food service prior to her retirement in August of 1982. She was a charter member and past president of the Hudson Sacandaga V.F.W. Post No. 5836 Ladies Auxiliary, Hadley, served as election inspector for the Republican Party in Hadley, was a charter member of the Hadley Luzerne Central School Mother's Club, a member of the Adirondack Regional Hospital Auxiliary, Corinth, a member of the C.S.E.A. and collected for the American Heart and the American Cancer societies. Ruth was an extremely generous woman and got a great deal of enjoyment from helping her friends, family and neighbors. She enjoyed cooking Thanksgiving dinner for the V.F.W. and helping with all their other dinners, especially the children's Christmas party, where she enjoyed being Mrs. Santa Claus for many years. She loved to travel, especially to Pennsylvania, Myrtle Beach and Florida. She enjoyed baking cookies with her friend, Kathy McGinnis, which she would generously share with family and friends. She was predeceased by her mother and father; her husband, Edward W. Pike; two brothers, Donald F. Moses and Wayne Moses and one sister, Frances Stokes. Survivors include one daughter, Brenda L. Burdick and her husband, Harry, of Hadley; two sons, William A. Pike and his wife, Laraine, of Hadley, and Edward M. Pike and his wife, Colleen, of Lake Luzerne; seven grandchildren: William E. "Carl" HARTFORD -- Carlton "Carl" A. Tucker Sr., 75, of State Route 196, went into the arms of the Lord, after a long illness, on Friday, July 1, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born on March 15, 1930, in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Claude B. and Marjorie (Kelly) Tucker. Carl served his country in the U.S. Navy in the Mediterranean, where he was a plank owner of the USS Des Moines. On Oct. 29, 1950, he married Rosemary Bisignano at St. Mary's Church in Glens Falls. After serving his country, Carl was employed at Finch Pruyn Paper Co. in Glens Falls. He owned Tucker's Plumbing and Heating in Glens Falls for more than 30 years, where he was a master plumber. After his retirement, he worked for the South Glens Falls School System as a boiler technician for 10 years. Carl was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. Queensbury Post No. 6196. He was an outdoorsman that loved fishing and hunting in Northern New York and Vermont. Carl enjoyed the Adirondacks and deep sea fishing. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Peter "Buck" Tucker, Claude "Tinker" Tucker and Raymond Tucker. Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Rosemary Tucker of Hartford; five children: Carlton A. Tucker Jr., of Glens Falls, James P. Tucker and his wife, Darlene, of Hartford, Peter E. Tucker and his wife, Tania, of South Glens Falls, Phillip J. Tucker and his wife, Diane, of Glens Falls, and Connie L. Wojtkun, Joseph Michael CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- Joseph Michael Wojtkun, 48, of West Main Street, died peacefully at home on Friday, July 1, 2005. He was the husband of Dianne Pehnke Wojtkun. Born June 8, 1957, in Andover, Mass., he was the sixth child of the late Dr. Bruno S. Wojtkun and Janina Betley Wojtkun and was a graduate of Andover High School and Villanova University. After serving with the United States Air Force, Joe moved to California and flew as a stunt pilot for various movie studios and was an instructor pilot at local airports. He then worked for several commercial airlines, ultimately crowning his career as a Captain with Continental Airlines, flying the South American route. Joe and Dianne were married Oct. 8, 1988. At the time, they were living in Boston. Being an avid fly fisherman and realizing that Cambridge, N.Y., was both within commuting distance of Newark Airport and very near the Batten Kill, Joe and Dianne moved their family to Cambridge in 1995. Over the years Joe came to love the Cambridge community and it became part of him. He enjoyed the outdoors in every respect. Along with fishing, he hunted grouse, enjoyed boating, hiking and backpacking. He loved to share his appreciation of nature with his wife, their sons and their sons' friends. They have many wonderful memories of great hiking and backpacking trips. Indoors, Joe had a very special hobby - building replicas of airplanes and ships. Every piece was researched and hand-crafted to the nth degree. They are very precious treasures. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church. In March, Joe was diagnosed with a very rare form of lymphoma. He spent eight weeks at Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan. On Thursday, June 30, he came home to Cambridge. On Friday, with the help of the Cambridge Valley Rescue Squad, Joe was able to spend some time in his beloved outdoors. He passed away Friday evening, with his family present, in the midst of a summer thunderstorm. Along with his wife and mother, Joe is survived by two sons, Derek and Robert Wojtkun; eight siblings: Cathy, Gregory, Peter, Paul and Janina Wojtkun, Maribeth Driscoll, Christina LaVoie, and Susan Pritchett; his in-laws, Annette and Robert Pehnke, Michele Snell, Robert, Karl and Scott Pehnke; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Liam Condon at St. Patrick's Church, 17 South Park St., Cambridge on Wednesday, July 6, at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Woodlands Cemetery, Cambridge.
