Born May 19, 1950, in Glens Falls, he was the son of Marjorie Dee Rocker of Queensbury, and the late William Dee. William attended Glens Falls city schools. He worked in the carpet installation business. William was married to Sherrie (DeSantis) Dee in Glens Falls. He was of the Catholic faith. William was predeceased by his father, William Dee. Survivors include his mother, Marjorie Dee Rocker of Queensbury; his wife, Sherrie Dee of Wayneville, N.C.; one son, William Dee of Hollywood, Fla.; one sister, Judy Rothbell of Paramus, N.J.; one brother, Patrick Dee of Queensbury; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held in North Carolina on Monday. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Cemetery, South Glens Falls. Gallup, Martin George "Marty" FRANKLIN, N.C. and HUDSON FALLS -- Martin George "Marty" Gallup, 73, of Franklin, N.C., passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2005, at his home. Son of the late Loren and Marguerite (Martin) Gallup, Marty was born and raised in the village of Hudson Falls. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served in Germany, playing trombone for the Army Band. Upon his return to the United States, Marty was an engineer and manager in the paper making industry. Eventually he started his own business, Dometrics, locating parts worldwide for the paper industry. Marty's interests varied greatly. He loved Big Band Jazz; antique clocks; tractors and engines; ballroom dancing; and spending summers at his Glen Lake camp. As a member of the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church, Marty sang in the choir and enjoyed fellowship with his church family. Marty is survived by three daughters, Claire Suminski and her husband, Joe of Franklin, N.C.; Amy Kuster and her husband, Val. of Kingsbury; and Jane Futch and her husband, Lyle. of Elon, N.C.; one son, Martin Andrew Gallup and his wife, Guylaine. of Clifton Park; two sisters also survive, Kay Kuebler of Corinth and Marilyn Matriccino of Lake George. Marty was a devoted grandfather to his eleven grandchildren. Marty's family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday evening at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., in Hudson Falls. A Celebration of Life will be held at the United Methodist Church, 227 Main St., Hudson Falls on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. David Lefurgey, pastor, officiating. A procession to the Moss Street Cemetery will follow. The American Legion Post 574 will perform military honors. Friends and family will enjoy refreshments at Marty's Glen Lake camp 12 Hall Road Ext. in Queensbury, immediately following the graveside ceremony. Goodman, Harrison Lincoln "Linc" Middle, Grove, N.Y. -- Harrison Lincoln Goodman "Linc," died Tuesday, July 5, 2005, in the presence of family in Saratoga Hospital after a brief illness. Linc was born May 16, 1937, in Ithaca, N.Y. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with an electrical engineering degree and went on to work for General Electric where he participated in the Saturn 5 project that eventually landed men on the moon. Most recently, he worked for Lockheed Martin in Schenectady. Linc was honored recently for having achieved 45 years of work with General Electric and Lockheed Martin. Linc was a loving husband, devoted father, and loyal friend and he will be missed tremendously. He was predeceased by his wife, Linda Hamm Goodman, his mother, Elizabeth Lincoln Goodman, and his father, Harrison Louis Goodman. Linc is survived by his daughter, Jennifer L. Goodman of Burlington, Vt.; his brother, Daniel Goodman and his wife, Georgia, of Somerville, N.J.; his brother, Bruce Goodman of Tennessee; his nephew, Paul Goodman of Chicago, his nephew, Scott Goodman and his wife, Kelly of Ashbury, N.J. Linc was active in the Troy Conference of the United Methodist Church and he spent many weekends volunteering at the Skye Farm Camp in Bolton Landing, building cabins. He was a member of the Milton Planning and Zoning Boards for several years. He was an avid gardener and loved to hike in the Adirondack Mountains. A burial service for the family will be held at the Middle Grove Cemetery on Friday morning, July 8, and then a memorial service will be held at the Middle Grove United Methodist Church on Friday, July 8, at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations should be sent to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) in memory of H. Alfred "Bud" Grant, 78, of county Route 46, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at his home in Fort Edward. Born in Fort Edward on Oct. 17, 1926, he was the son of the late Cameron I. and Christena M. (Wood) Grant. Bud was a graduate of Argyle Central School. On Oct. 20, 1946, he married Theresa Jigli of Hudson Falls. Theresa died on Sept. 27, 2003. Together they owned and operated Grant Farms. Bud was a dairy farmer. He was a past president of the Washington County Farm Bureau. He served on committees for Washington County Cooperative Extension and Agway. For many years he served on the Washington County Fair Board. He had been a 4-H leader and was a past member of U.S. Trotting Association. He loved his family, farming, working and sports. He had a strong love for horses. Early in his life he owned Belgian draft horses; he then owned Standard bred racehorses for several years. He enjoyed raising Siberian Huskies and had a sled dog team. Later in life he owned ponies and especially enjoyed driving his team of ponies in the local parades. He is survived by a daughter Phyllis Grant, of Fort Edward; two sons, Richard of Fort Edward and Brian and his wife, Pam, of Fort Edward; one grandson, Gregory Sloan of Hudson Falls; and two granddaughters Sharon and Kara Grant, both of Fort Edward; one sister, Jean Cutler of Moreau; a brother, Emerson Grant of Moreau; a sister-in-law, Irene Tarantino of Hudson Falls and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Larson, James Jarvis Manchester, Vt. -- James Jarvis Larson, 88, of Manchester died suddenly at Vermont Southwestern Hospital in Bennington on Friday, July 1, 2005. He was born Nov. 15 1916, in Yonkers, N.Y., the son of David and Helen (Jarvis) Larson. After graduating from the Fieldston School, Riverdale, N.Y., he went on to earn an engineering degree from Yale University in 1939. Following in his father's footsteps, he worked for Otis Elevator Company for 40 years, mainly in New York City. After ending his career at Otis in Columbus, Ohio, he retired to his much-loved farm in Salem, which he had purchased in 1963. He moved to Manchester in 1979. An avid sportsman, he had a love of fishing and hunting and a lifelong passion for gunsmithing. In his early years he was an enthusiastic tennis player, turning to golf later in life. At the time of his death, he had been an active member of the Dorset Field Club for almost 25 years. He is survived by Millie, his wife of 22 years; daughters, Susan Larson, of Wayland, Mass., and Ellen Larson, of Cairo, Egypt; and a son, James Larson Jr.; and two grandsons, James III and Russel, all of Berkeley, Calif. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jane Baker Larson. A private memorial service will be held at a future date to be determined by the family. O'Brien, Elizabeth Sherman GLENS FALLS -- Elizabeth Sherman O'Brien, 81, of Lawrence Street, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, July 5, 2005, at the Glens Falls Hospital, after a short illness. Born on Jan. 26, 1924, in Hudson Falls, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Edith (McKinney) Sherman. She was a 1943 graduate of Hudson Falls High School. On her birthday, Jan. 26, 1947, she married Dennis O'Brien at St. Mary's Church in Hudson Falls. He passed away on April 24, 1977. Elizabeth was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Glens Falls. For 35 years she resided in South Glens Falls. Of those 35 years, 23 years were spent raising her eight children in the home now known as the Parks Bentley Museum on Ferry Boulevard. She enjoyed traveling with her sisters. They have been to Europe, Hawaii and throughout this country. Elizabeth has spent many years refinishing antique furniture. Many of the pieces that she has redone are in her home and with her family. Elizabeth was also an avid reader. She enjoyed her semi-annual excursions to Manchester, Vt., with her daughters. She was a guiding influence and inspiration to her family throughout her life. She was a devoted and loving grandmother and was a loving caretaker to many people in this area. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Mildred and Mary Sherman; and four brothers, George, Alfred, William and Edward Sherman. Survivors include her eight children, Dennis O'Brien Jr. of Glens Falls, William O'Brien and his wife, Connie, of McDonough, Ga., Pamela O'Leary and her husband, Michael, of Queensbury, Paula Battiste and her husband, Frank, of Queensbury, Shawn O'Brien and his wife, Ellen, of Gansevoort, Edie Hill and her husband, Dennis, of South Glens Falls, Mark O'Brien of South Glens Falls and Matthew O'Brien of Queensbury; two sisters, Helene Turner of Hudson Falls and Charlotte Fowler and her husband, Richard, of Hudson Falls; two sisters-in-law, Mary Sherman of Argyle and Irene Sherman of Hudson Falls; 12 grandchildren, Erin Kurz, Christopher O'Brien, Shannon O'Brien, Katie O'Brien, Michael Polidore, Dane Polidore, Kevin O'Leary, Frank Battiste, Peter Battiste, Kasey O'Brien, Jennifer Hill and Jessica Hill; three great-grandsons, Garrett Polidore, Cade O'Brien and Caden Battiste; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Friday at St. Mary's/St. Paul's Church, on the park, in Hudson Falls. The Rite of Committal, at a later date, will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward. Reitmeier, Edward LAKE GEORGE and GRANVILLE -- Edward Reitmeier, 88, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2005, at the Orchard Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Granville. Born on Jan. 28, 1917, in New York City, he was the son of the late Joseph and Nellie (Spachusann) Reitmeier. Edward lived at Letchworth Developmental Center from 1925 to 1980. He then moved to Bronx Developmental Center and in 1988 to Wilton Developmental Center. On March 21, 1994, Edward moved to the Individual Residential Alternative Home on Old Post Road, Lake George until Dec. 12, 2002. He then lived at the Individual Residential Alternative Home on McCormack Drive, Lake George until March 1, 2005, from where he was transferred to the Orchard Nursing Home in Granville until his death. Edward attended Queensbury Day Rehabilitation Center in Queensbury. He enjoyed attending church and his day programs: dining out, watching old movies, listening to music, going to bingo, sitting with friends, and being a passive observer, attending many activities in the community. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today, July 7, at Evergreen Cemetery, Birch Avenue, Lake George, with the Rev. Paul C. Cox, officiating. Ritorto, Janis Skog QUEENSBURY -- Janis Skog Ritorto, age 55, of Queensbury, formerly of River Edge and Oradell, N.J., died Monday, July 4, 2005. Janis was a senior teaching assistant at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs. She gave much of her time to the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts, where she served as committee chair. She also served as the chemical hygiene officer at Skidmore College. Janis was also a member of the First Congregational Church of River Edge, N.J. She was the beloved wife of Vincent Ritorto; devoted mother of Michelle and Mark Ritorto; dear sister of Alan and Donald Skog. Sullivan, John R. GLENS FALLS and OLMSTEDVILLE -- John R. Sullivan, 61, of 414 Glen St., died early Monday morning July 4, 2005, at his home surrounded by his loving family after an extended illness. John was born Feb. 29, 1944, in Corinth, N.Y., the son of the late Norman T. and Marjory Wendell Sullivan. John was a graduate of Johnsburg Central School; he became a computer programmer and analyst and was involved in several computer-related inventions. He was employed by many firms all over the country, including IBM, GE, Pitney Bowes and for a period of time with the U.S. Department of Defense. John was an exceptionally talented musician who played multiple instruments, but loved the piano and saxophone. He frequently volunteered his musical talents for many local church and civic functions. John enjoyed bowling and was very good at it. John was a communicant of St. Joseph's Catholic Church where he served as a cantor and played the piano and sang in the choir. John is survived by his daughter, Kimberley Klinker of Richmond, Va.; two sons, John M. Sullivan of Weisbaden, Germany, and Timothy J. Sullivan of Las Vegas, Nev.; his brothers, Norman J. Sullivan of Waldorf, Md., and Brian Sullivan of Minerva; his grandchildren, Tyler, Skye and Bryce Sullivan, Anna and Katy Klinker, and Timothy, Christina and Christopher Sullivan; his dear friend, Ron Lugrezia, and his constant companion, his dog, Charlie. He is also survived by his uncle, Thomas J. Sullivan of Lady Lake, Fla.; his aunts, Jean Hall of Schroon Lake, and Betty Gregory of Vero Beach, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2005, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Olmstedville, by the Rev. Richard Sturtz, pastor, officiating. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family. Friends may call on the family Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Olmstedville.
