MECHANICVILLE -- Stephen J. Baan, 73, of William Street, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 7, 2005, at Samaritan Hospital, Troy, after a brief illness. Born in Rotterdam Junction, Aug. 17, 1931, he was the son of the late Stephen and Loretta Peer Baan of Pattersonville. Steve worked on his family's farm and attended the Rome School for the Deaf. Steve worked as a stockman for more than 30 years with the Golub Company Price Chopper Market in Mechanicville, retiring in 1996. After retirement, he enjoyed gardening and traveling with his wife and daughter's family. Steve was actively involved in the deaf community. He served on its board for numerous years, and would always volunteer his time to help out. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Lucille Turcotte Baan; his daughter, Gail and her husband, Scott Teal, of Stillwater; a son, Robert Baan of Plattsburgh; and three cherished grandchildren, Alexandra, Katrina, and Andrew Teal; along with a number of friends, neighbors and former co-workers. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Devito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 South Main St., Mechanicville. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Waterford. Bigelow, Elfreda May DuPrey (Maynard) QUEENSBURY -- Elfreda May (Maynard) DuPrey Bigelow, 82, formerly of Maine Avenue in Queensbury and Sixth Street, Hudson Falls, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 9, 2005, at the Eden Park Health Care Facility in Glens Falls. Born on May 6, 1923, in Granby, Quebec, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Freda (Bergeron) Maynard. On Sept. 5, 1960, she married John Bigelow in New Canaan, Conn. He passed away on Jan. 10, 1993. For a few years, May was employed at Scott Paper Company in Fort Edward. Later, she owned and operated Sally's Beauty Shop, formerly in Hudson Falls. In addition to living in Queensbury and Hudson Falls, May also lived in Port Henry for a few years. For many years, she loved camping at Crown Point with her husband, John, and friends. She also loved to crochet and bake for her many friends and relatives. May enjoyed traveling to Kansas to spend the holidays with her children and also enjoyed traveling to Canada to visit family and friends who lived there. May was a past member of the Gospel Lighthouse Assemblies of God Church in Hudson Falls as well as in Crown Point. Before entering Eden Park Health Care Center, she was a resident of the Warrensburg Residential Hall in Warrensburg. She was predeceased by two sisters, Betty Ryan and Martha Colvin and three brothers, Edgar Maynard, Roger Maynard, Wilfred Maynard; and a grandson, Billy Joe DuPrey. Survivors include five children, Kenneth L. DuPrey of Ziegler, Ill., Donald J. DuPrey and his wife, Gloria, of Queensbury, Richard F. DuPrey and his wife, Carol, of Olathe, Kan., Harry I. DuPrey and his wife, Susan, of Wellsville, Kan., and Sally M. Emerson and her husband, Tom, of Garnett, Kan.; 15 grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren; several stepchildren; two sisters, Rita McCotter and her husband, John, of Homosassa, Fla., and Mildred Vaughn also of Homosassa, Fla.; one brother, Leo Maynard and his wife, Sharon, of Florida; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and three sisters-in-law, Lorraine Bigelow of Hudson Falls, Edith Bigelow of Ballston Spa, and Dorothy Andrasko of Livingston, N.J. Bottum, Moya (Middleton) TOWN OF MOREAU -- Moya (Middleton) Bottum passed away after a long illness on Saturday, July 9, 2005, at home, surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was born on March 8, 1956, in Norfolk, Va., the daughter of the late Marion Duffy Middleton and Claude Corbett Middleton Sr. of Waycross, Ga. She graduated from Glens Falls Senior High School in 1974. She and her beloved husband Brant, spent 21 wonderful years together. People often commented on their closeness, love and affection for one another. Before retiring to be home with family, she was a Production Supervisor at Mallinckrodt Anesthesiology in Argyle, N.Y. and a Production Manager at NAMIC in Glens Falls. She was a strong-willed woman with a heart of gold, who was known for her unconditional love and devotion to her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and other relatives, to whom she was affectionately known as "Aunt Mo" or "Mama Mo". Moya loved the ocean and spent some of her happiest times vacationing with her family at Wells Beach, Maine. In addition to her mother, Marion Middleton, she was pre-deceased by her father-in-law, Edward B. Bottum, and her aunt, Cele Lafayette. She is survived by her father, Claude Middleton and his companion, Fran Bennett; her husband, Brant; and daughters, Christian (Jaysen) Bessette of South Glens Falls, Colleen Ryan of South Glens Falls, and Brooke Bottum (Shawn Ross) of Greenfield Center. She is also survived by four sisters, Claudia Middleton of Glens Falls, Paula (Chris) Norton of Queensbury, Sheila (Frank) Anderson of Beverly Hills, Fla., and Marcie (John) Baker of South Glens Falls; and one brother, Claude Middleton of Gansevoort; her sister-in-law, Julie (Paul) Muse of Chelsea, Mass.; her brother-in-law, Dr. Win (Tamara) Bottum-Morgan; two grandchildren, Logan and Liliana Barody of South Glens Falls; nieces and nephews Christopher, Matthew, and Michael Wissell; Jason, Adam and Stacy Norton; Nicole and Kyle Tucker; Kevin Middleton; Caitlin, Cory Jo, and Andrew Baker; Morgan, Jessica and Luke Closson; and Elijah Morgan; her aunt, Marg and uncle, Dan Sickles of Kingston, N.Y., her uncle, Oscar "Pete" Lafayette of Whitehall; and several cousins. DeSantis, 77, of Slingerlands passed away on Monday, July 4, 2005. She was born in Passaic, N.J., the daughter of the late Joseph and Irene DeSantis. Audrey is survived by her children, David, Mark, Susan, and Steven Langlitz and daughters-in-law, Loren and Bonnie, as well as her brother, Carl, and sister-in-law, Barbara DeSantis of Lake George. She also has four grandchildren, Daniel, Bryan, Stephanie, and Patrick Langlitz and numerous nieces and nephews. Upon graduating from Lake George High School, Audrey attended NYS College at Fredonia and graduated with a music education degree. Audrey went on to receive a master's degree in education from Syracuse University. She taught in several public schools and was a prominent piano teacher in the Albany area. There will be a memorial service held Tuesday, July 12, 10:30 a.m. at the Delmar Reformed Church, 386 Delaware Avenue, Delmar. Burial will be in Pine View Cemetery, Queensbury. Earls III, 47, of Porter Corners Road, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 8, 2005, at his home. Born on Nov. 3, 1957, in Corinth, he was the son of Betty Greenier of Corinth and the late Guy F. Earls Jr. Mr. Earls attended Corinth High School. He then joined the United States Army on Feb. 28, 1975, serving during the Vietnam War in the 7th Infantry Division at Fort Ord, Calif. Following his discharge, he married Jacqueline "Jackie" Goodnow on Aug. 25, 1984, in Saratoga Springs. The couple has resided in Porter Corners for many years. Mr. Earls was employed as supervisor of maintenance at Espey Manufacturing in Saratoga Springs from 1982 to 1999. His first love was his family. He enjoyed his friends and his dogs, fishing, camping and NASCAR. He also was a longtime member of the Adirondack American Legion Post 70 of Saratoga Springs. Besides his father, he was predeceased by an infant brother and an infant sister. Survivors, besides his wife of 20 years and his mother, include two children, Kayla and Guy IV, both of Porter Corners; five brothers, Arnold Clark of Porter Corners, George Clark of Fort Edward, Ronnie Clark of Corinth, Jeff Earls of Corinth and Tony Earls and his wife, Christine, of South Corinth; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Ferber, Grace Griffis Greenwich -- Grace Griffis Ferber, 22, a resident of North Road, died Friday, July 8, 2005, at the Albany Medical Center Hospital from injuries received in an automobile accident on Thursday evening. Born March 17, 1983, in Cambridge, she was the daughter of George Griffis of Arlington, Vt., and Heather Reid of Greenwich. Grace was a graduate of Greenwich Central School and was studying alternative medicine and psychic development. She was employed as a waitress in Saratoga Springs. She was a spiritualist with a strong belief in a universal God, loved the ocean, open fields and life itself. Survivors in addition to her parents are her husband, Craig Ferber of Portsmouth, Va.; a sister, Mackenzie Bain and her husband, Robert, and their son, Rory Bain, of Shushan; a brother, Sam Griffis of Greenwich; her grandmother, Jean Reid of Greenwich; her close friend, Jeremy Docekal of Mechanicville; also aunts, uncles, and cousins. Kottman, 85, of Fort Edward Road, went into the arms of the Lord to join his beloved wife, Betty, Friday morning, July 8, 2005, from Glens Falls Hospital following a brief illness. Born Dec. 23, 1919, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Frank and Mae (Curren) Kottman. Following graduation from Alexander Hamilton High School of Brooklyn, and anxious to serve his country, Frank finagled a way to enlist in the New York National Guard on Nov. 16, 1936, prior to his 17th birthday, and was able to serve until his honorable discharge Nov. 15, 1939. He later enlisted with the United States Army Jan. 6, 1942, serving in both the Pacific and the European-African Campaigns being honorably discharged Oct. 25, 1945. His decorations and citations include three Bronze Star Medals, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon and Bar, the European-African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon and Bar, Honorable Service Lapel Button, Victory Medal, the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar. Frank returned home from the war to the Glens Falls area and to his wife, Betty H. Millington, whom he married April 2, 1944, and with whom he shared just short of 60 wonderful years until her untimely passing March 24, 2004. During those years, Frank worked for McGowan Educator Food Co. and Greenhouse Wholesale Food Co. in Albany, N.Y.; owned his own grocery store on Third Avenue in Glens Falls; was a grocery wholesaler for a while; then entered the automobile sales business in 1959 when he went to work for Whiteman Chevrolet of Glens Falls as a sales representative and later sales manager until 1970, after which he worked at several area dealerships until his retirement in 1982. Besides his parents and loving wife, a sister, Marie Murray and her husband, Frank, and another brother-in-law, Bill Sutts, also predeceased him. Frank is survived by four sons, Scott Kottman and his wife, Kathy, of South Glens Falls, Steve Kottman and his wife, Donna, of San Antonio, Texas, Michael Kottman of Gansevoort, and David Kottman and his wife, Debby, of South Glens Falls; one daughter, Jeanne Fleury and her husband, Jim, of South Glens Falls; three grandchildren, Michael Jr., Christopher, and Connie Kottman; two great-grandchildren, Brandon Combs and Rebecca Kottman; one sister-in-law, Marjorie Sutts, formerly of Warrensburg and now of Ayer, Mass.; also nieces, nephews, and cousins. Williams, 91, of Queensbury and formerly of Sheridan Street, Glens Falls and Aurora, Colo., died Thursday, July 7, 2005, after a tragic fall while vacationing in New Harbor, Maine. She was born on Sept. 14, 1913, in Savannah, Ga., the daughter of Oscar Edward and Margaret Dora (Farris) Stoothoff, while "Stars and Stripes" was playing on a Victrola across the street. Inez graduated from Yonkers High School, and Albany State Teachers College, Class of 1935. Inez's volunteer efforts were extraordinary. She was a member of Glens Falls Operetta Club, singing duets "Old Man River" and "The Song of Norway," in their productions. She also sang in the Sandy Hill musical production of "Show Boat" in 1952. Inez was a lifelong member of the Glens Falls College Club, where she served as a past president. She also was past president of the Glens Falls PTA Council, a member of the Women's Society at Christ Church United Methodist; she was a past president of the Adirondack Girl Scout Council. Inez was a past Co-president of the Colorado Welsh Society and active in the local Welsh Societies. Recently, she was a member of the Queensbury Senior Citizens and a longtime member of the Christ Church choir,where she was a member of Christ Church United Methodist since 1943. The church was a marvelous source of lasting friendships and pleasant social life over the years. Inez and her husband were also active members of the Glens Falls Winter Club. Her hobbies included knitting, sewing, painting, bridge, singing and fishing. She was an avid reader, reading at least two to three books a week, and an avid baseball and football fan. Inez loved to travel; she and her husband traveled to every state of the Union and much abroad. She married John Closs Williams of West Pawlet, Vt., on June 24, 1939. Inez was a wife, mother, homemaker, as well as a substitute teacher for 25 years in the Glens Falls School System. She also tutored many young students in the area who were physically unable to attend regular school, retiring in 1974. She was predeceased by her parents, and her two sisters, Mary (Mae) F. Cody and Dorothy Stoothoff. She was a loving spouse, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother. Granny, also known as Grandma, was always proud of all her offspring, attending all of their special occasions. Inez is survived by her husband of 66 years, John C. Williams, of Queensbury; children, Nancy Williams Clark and her husband, J. Thomas, of Old Chatham, N.Y., Dr. John C. Williams Jr. and his wife. Patricia. of Prescott, Ariz., formerly of Queensbury, and Lynn W. Jones and her husband. Richard R.. of Kattskill Bay; seven grandchildren, Gregory Clark and wife, Stephanie, Meredith Clark Shachoy and husband, Christopher, Megan Clark Eisenberg and husband, Josh, Laura Williams-Shpilenok and husband, Igor, and Mark C. Williams, Eric J. Williams and Chris A. Jones; eight great- grandchildren, Brooke, Reed, and Conrad Shachoy, triplets: Charlotte, Chelsea, and Chloe Clark, along with Andre and Makar Shpilenok; and many nieces and nephews also survive her. Gansevoort -- Robert T. Wilson, Retired Yonkers Policeman, and former Northumberland Supervisor, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2005. He was also the former Northumberland Town Supervisor in Saratoga County, N.Y. Robert T. Wilson was born in Yonkers, N.Y. He was the son of Beverly and Ellen Wilson. He attended St. Peter's School and graduated from Saunders Trades & Technical High School where he excelled in basketball. Mr. Wilson was a veteran of the Korean conflict having served three years in the United States Marine Corps. He was a graduate of New York City Police Academy and New York City Transit Police Academy. He was a Transit policeman and New York City taxi inspector. He joined the Yonkers Police Department where he had a fine police career for 20 years. He served in the department's radio room, detention division, youth division, special squads, guarding political and influential figures, and riot intervention. He also patrolled in a police car, but he was best known and respected as a foot patrolman on the Avenues, for many years, namely, Riverdale and McLean. Former Patrolman Wilson was the recipient of numerous awards for outstanding police work and devotion to duty: Department Honor Bar, "Citation of Appreciation" from the American Legion in 69; The Northern Exchange Club honor of "Policeman of the Year" in 1969, and again 1970; Garlick Memorial Chapels, "Outstanding Policeman," presented in 1970; Macy Newspaper Chain, "Outstanding Policeman of the Year 1973"; The PBA, "Outstanding Policeman of the Year" in 1975, where he filled the office of Second Vice President. Mr. Wilson also received a commendation for exceptional police work from Mario Biaggi. While residing in Gansevoort, N.Y., Robert T. was employed by several security agencies, Pinkerton, Burns, Wackenhut, The Saratoga Harness, The Saratoga Flat Track, Wesley Nursing Home, N.Y., Telephone Company, and several local companies. In 1983, Mr. Wilson established the Conservative Party within the town of Northumberland and was successful in respectively serving one term, 1984 to 1985. Mr. Wilson ran solely on the Conservative Party line, thus being the only person in Saratoga County to win an election, filing on this minor party line. He thereby also served those years on the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors, in Ballston Spa. He received a citation from the Saratoga Springs Regional Chamber of Commerce in 1986 for his dedication to improving the quality of life in the Saratoga area. He was a communicant of St. Theresa Church in Gansevoort and a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. John Neumann Council No. 7670. He was married to the late Ann Marie Wilson for 44 years. Survivors include three sons, Thomas Wilson, Robert Wilson, and Henry Wilson; four daughters, Valerie Voros, Julie Bowden, Lorraine Roufa and Marylinn Albert; five grandchildren: Hunter, Cheyenne, Megan, Madeline, Reilly and Avery; brother of retired Captain Richard Wilson (Y.P.D.); and sister, Alice Sturmer; also several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. A service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 12, at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville. There are no calling hours scheduled.
