FORT EDWARD -- Francis F. Bacon, 78, of Gates Avenue, passed away suddenly Monday, July 11, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 14, at the family's home at 44 Gates Ave., Fort Edward. A funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 15, at the Church of The Messiah, 296 Glen St., Glens Falls, with the Rev. Scott Harding, pastor, officiating. Hurlburt Bryant, 30, of North Seminary Street, Barre, Vt., and formerly of Whitehall, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, July 9, 2005, at her home. Born on Aug. 9, 1974, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Edwin Hurlburt and Marianne (Epifanio) Nutting. She was a 1993 graduate of Whitehall High School. Brenda was a homemaker and enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her children. She was predeceased by her grandmother, Constance Epifanio. Brenda is survived by her mother, Marianne Nutting of Whitehall; her father, Edwin Hurlburt of Queensbury; two daughters, Shawna Bryant and Shayla Bryant; two sisters, Jen Annis of Queensbury and Patricia Peltier of South Glens Falls; her fiance, Robert Bryant; her grandfather, Joseph Epifanio of Whitehall; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours and services will be private. Interment will be at Greenmount Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Jillson Funeral Home, Inc., 46 Williams St., Whitehall. "Pop" Garrison Sr., 79, of Herald Drive, passed away Sunday evening, July 10, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital from heart complications. Born Oct. 16, 1926, in Nyack, N.Y., he was the son of the late William and Julia Garrison. On Oct. 24, 1945, after attending the Rockland County District School Systems, Bill enlisted with the United States Army, serving both in the USA and in the European Theatre Operations, earning the Army of Occupation Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal, being honorably discharged Oct. 29, 1946. Shortly after returning to the states, Bill met and later married Ida Polhemus, with whom he shared three children and nearly 40 loving years together until her untimely passing in November of 1985. For many years, Bill volunteered his services with the Central Nyack Volunteer Fire Department while working as a construction plumber mainly with Abar Plumbing and Heating Co. in Goshen, N.Y., until his retirement around 1987, which brought him to the Queensbury area to be closer to his family. "Pop," as he was fondly known by his family and friends, loved the North Country which offered all the amenities he enjoyed such as fishing, camping, wildlife, breathtaking scenery, and even day rides, bringing home jugs of fresh spring water they would get somewhere along the way. Above all, Pop loved spending time with his family. He always looked forward to family gatherings and cookouts, bringing with him "Pop's baked beans" and giving out hugs to everyone. For all those who knew him, he will be greatly missed, and in our hearts forever. Besides his parents, and loving wife, all his brothers and sisters, and oldest and only grandson, Albert Steinhauer Jr., who passed away only four and a half months ago on Feb. 21, 2005, all predeceased him. Survivors include one daughter, Linda Steinhauer and her husband, Albert Sr., of South Glens Falls; two sons, William Garrison Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Queensbury, and Ed Garrison, also of Queensbury; three granddaughters: Tina Clark and her husband, Charlie, of Gansevoort, Dana Bishop and her husband, Doug, of Glens Falls, and Karen Steinhauer of South Glens Falls; one granddaughter-in-law, Kathy Steinhauer of Washingtonville, N.Y.; three great-grandchildren: Billy, Brittnie and Tiffany Clark of Gansevoort; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Nancy Hopper of Westport and Ed and Dolores Polhemus of Willsboro; his four-legged best friend, "Chance," who misses him dearly; and several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. Friends may call upon the family today, July 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury. Funeral services will follow the calling hours at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Loren Gage, pastor of Kingsbury Wesleyan Church, officiating. A committal service will take place Thursday, July 14, at 1 p.m. at Lakeview Cemetery in Willsboro, with the Rev. Chilton McPheeters, pastor of Crown Point and Moriah United Methodist Churches, officiating. The family would like to extend a special thank you to West Glens Falls Emergency Squad and to the doctors and staff at Glens Falls Hospital Intensive Care Unit for all their comfort and care provided to "Pop" in his final days. McCane, Melissa Ruth QUEENSBURY -- Melissa Ruth McCane, 51, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital, after a courageous fight with cancer, surrounded by family and friends. Born on Dec. 5, 1953, in Glens Falls Hospital, she was the daughter of George Ladd and Marge (Smith) Ladd. For the last 12 years, Melissa worked as the human resource manager at North American Industrial Service in Ballston Spa. Melissa graduated from Adirondack Community College with an associate degree in 1994. She also attended Taylor university. She was a member of the South Glens Falls School Board, serving five years. Melissa enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, reading and watching the Yankees win. She loved spending time with her three children. Her father, George Ladd, predeceased her. Melissa is survived by her son, Josh McCane, and his fiance‚, Jessica Gordon, and Melissa's first granddaughter, Hannah, of Fort Edward; her daughter, Katie McCane and her boyfriend, Dustin Johnston, of South Glens Falls; daughter, Meghan McCane and fianc‚, Michael Howard, of Glens Falls; her former husband, Dan McCane, of Hartford; her sister, Melody White and husband, John, of Schuylerville; her brother, Dan Ladd and wife, Dee, of Queensbury; her sister, Sue Wilder and husband, Ernie, of Hadley; her brother- in-law and sister in-law, John and Sandy McCane of Queensbury; and her mother, Marge Ladd of Zephyrhills, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 5 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2005, at Regan and Denny Funeral Home, Saratoga Avenue, South Glens Falls, with the Rev. Born on Sept. 6, 1927, in Whitehall, he was the son of the late Thomas and Agnes (Raino) Neddo. Donald served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy during World War II, from 1945 to 1947. He graduated from Vallejo Junior College and received a degree from the U.S. Naval Hospital School in San Diego, Calif. Donald enjoyed sports, horse racing, bowling, fishing and gardening. He retired from Kingsbury Construction after 40 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 83, life member and 3rd Degree Knights of Whitehall Council, Knights of Columbus No. 276 and the B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 1491. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one daughter, Diane L. Neddo, who died in an automobile accident in 1969; three sisters, Margaret Newell, Agnes Lamoureaux and Betty Gordon; and two brothers, Harold Neddo and Roland Neddo. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anna (Raino) Neddo of Whitehall; two sons, Peter Neddo and his wife, Mari, of Omaha, Neb., and Henry Neddo and his close friend, Vicki, of Whitehall; one brother, Kenneth Neddo and his wife, Bertha, of Queensbury; one sister, Marion Chapman of Whitehall; three grandchildren: Jessie Neddo, Tom Neddo and his wife, Josephine, and Mary Neddo Dunbar and her husband, Jeff; four great-grandchildren: Lindsay, Rebecca, Chelsey and Mikala; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, July 15, at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church in Whitehall, with the Rev. Francis Dunbar officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will follow at Neddo Cemetery in Whitehall. Scally, 83, formerly of Farley Road, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital, following a long illness. Born on Oct. 19, 1921, in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Florence (Cimo) Colvin. Catherine attended Fort Edward High School. On Dec. 23, 1943, she married Terry A. Scally at St. Joseph's Rectory in Fort Edward. He passed away on Feb. 3, 1972, after 28 years of marriage. For many years, Catherine lived on the family dairy farm with her husband. She previously was employed at W.T. Grant in Hudson Falls, and Sheridan Catheter in Argyle. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Andrew B. Colvin of West Virginia; and her sisters, Jeanette Flores of Fort Edward and Mary Barlow of Hudson Falls. Survivors include her brother, Thomas P. Colvin of Peekskill; her sisters, Loretta Angus of South Glens Falls and Sandra Chilson of Phoenix, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. The Rite of Committal will be conducted at the convenience of the family at St. Mary's Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward. Taft, 85, of Queen Street, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2005, following a long illness. Born on May 10, 1920, in Whitehall, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Carrie (Bushee) VanGuilder. Elizabeth was a saleswoman and representative for many years for Avon Products and Friendly Home Parties. She was also a member of AARP. She was predeceased by her husband, Matthew B. Taft, and two sons, Matthew A. Taft and Gene Taft. Elizabeth is survived by one son, Bernard Taft and his wife, Elaine, of Phoenix, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Theresa Davis and her husband, Arnold, of Whitehall, and Carolyn Curley and her husband, James, of South Glens Falls; a daughter-in-law, Priscilla Taft of Fort Edward; two granddaughters; five sisters: Irene LaRose, Lillian Bartholomew, Eliza Mylott and Charlotte LaRose, all of Whitehall, and Caroline LaFoy of Fort Edward; and two brothers, Raymond VanGuilder and his wife, Shirley, of Whitehall, and Joseph VanGuilder and his wife, Carol, of Whitehall.
