FORT EDWARD -- Francis F. Bacon, 78, of Gates Avenue, passed away suddenly Monday, July 11, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born Feb. 15, 1927, in Springfield, Mass., he was the son of the late Mary (Harper) Bacon. Leaving Glens Falls High School to serve his country during World War II, Fran enlisted with the United States Navy, February, 1944, until his honorable discharge in July of 1947. After about one year, Fran re-enlisted with the United States Army, serving his country during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge. Soon after his military duties, Fran met Joyce MacDonald in the spring of 1953, and later they were married at the Fort Edward Methodist Church, Oct. 18, of that same year. Remaining in the Fort Edward area, Fran took employment with Hercules, now known as Ciba-Geigy, where he retired in 1986, after many years of dedicated service. Fran was an active member of the Church of the Messiah of Glens Falls for many years, and also at the Hudson Falls American Legion Post No. 574. Having a love for people, "Fe," as he was affectionately called by all who knew him, would often stay busy volunteering his services at various places, or continued employment, most recently with Magic Forest, where he truly enjoyed being around the children. "Fe" enjoyed spending time at camp, reading, or watching the Yankees, but above all, he loved children, especially his grandchildren, and all of his family, who will greatly miss him. Besides his mother, two brothers, George and Art Bacon, and one sister-in-law, Mary Bacon, all predeceased him. Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Joyce Bacon; one son, Newty Bacon and his wife, Nancy, of Fort Edward; two daughters, Patricia Diamond and her husband, Ken, of Schoharie, and Annette Loomis and her husband, David, of Schuylerville; eight grandchildren: Rachel and Cody Bacon, Dustin, Daniel, and Katie Guetti, Melissa Osmer, and Sarah and Stephen Loomis; a grandniece, Angelique Duguay, who lives with the Bacon family; two sisters, Mary Benson and Rita Jarvis, both of Hudson Falls; one brother, Robert Bacon of Hudson Falls; one sister-in-law, Joyce Bacon, also of Hudson Falls; several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. Friends may call upon the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 14, at the family's home, 44 Gates Ave., Fort Edward. Hudson Falls American Legion Post No. 574 will perform a brief service at 6 p.m. during the calling hours. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, July 15, at the Church of the Messiah, 296 Glen St., Glens Falls, with Rev. Scott Harding, pastor, officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent, in loving memory of Fran, to The Church of the Messiah, 296 Glen St., Glens Falls, NY, 12801, or to Christ the King Spiritual Life Center, Burton Road, Greenwich, NY, 12834. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the staff at Magic Forest for all their care, comfort and concern given to Fran in his time of need; to the Lake George Emergency Squad for their timely response and efforts in transporting "Fe;" and to the Glens Falls Emergency Department for providing their utmost medical care and efforts. Fiore, 67, of Glens Falls, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born May 7, 1938, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Herman J. and Ethel M. (Brown) Fiore Sr. Bob was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, and a graduate of St. Mary's Academy, Class of 1957. He started his career at the family business - Fiore's Market in Glens Falls, with his father and brother; after the business closed he went to work as a deputy sheriff at the Warren County Sheriff's Department, retiring as a sergeant. Bob will be remembered and missed by the many people whom he talked, waved and came into contact with during his walks through the city of Glens Falls. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Eleanor Brunelle. Survivors include his son, Chris, and his companion, Gracie, of Glens Falls; his loving companion, Carol Murray, of Manchester, Conn., Chris' mother, Clara Fiore, of Glens Falls; his sisters, Dolores Annesty and Mary Louise King, both of Glens Falls; his brother, Herman J. Fiore Jr. and his wife, Marilyn, of South Glens Falls; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 16, at St. Mary's Church, Warren Street, Glens Falls. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, South Glens Falls. TICONDEROGA -- Frederick A. Wendell, 75, of Wicker Street, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at Moses-Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga. Born June 9, 1930, in Ticonderoga, he was the son of the late George C. Wendell and Helen M. (Rabatoy) Wendell. Mr. Wendell was a lifelong resident of Ticonderoga and a graduate of Ticonderoga High School. He was employed by the United States Post Office as postmaster for many years before his retirement in 1985. Mr. Wendell was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and awarded soldier of the month in Guam, 1956. He was a member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks No. 1494, the St. Isaac Jogues Council No. 333 Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion Post No. 224, all of Ticonderoga. Mr. Wendell enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports, and woodworking. But most of all he liked spending time with family and friends. He was predeceased by his father, George Wendell, his mother, Helen (Rabatoy) Wendell, his stepmother, Alice (Maloney) Wendell, and his sister, Joan Hammond. Survivors include his wife Betty Wendell; his son and daughter-in-law, Gary F. and Joanne (Ormsbee) Wendell of Delmar; his brother and sister-in-law, George and Ellie Wendell of Syracuse, and their sons Jeffrey and James Wendell and family; and his sister, Mary Wendell of Texas. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. at Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. The Rev. William G. Muench, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga, will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.
