Doran, Shirley M. FORT EDWARD -- Shirley M. Doran, 76, of state Route 4, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born in Hudson Falls on Aug. 19, 1928, she was the daughter of the late James Jay and Sarah (Needham) Harrington. She married Clifford Doran Sr. on May 4, 1945. Shirley and her husband owned and operated Everett's Rest and helped run the family farm for 27 years. She loved the outdoors, camping, flowers, knitting, crocheting, pinochle card parties and collecting knickknacks, largely salt and pepper shakers. Her biggest enjoyment was spending time with her husband, her children and grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Kathy Ryerson, a sister, Evelyn Russo, and two brothers, Gail and Walt Harrington. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Clifford W. Doran Sr. of Fort Edward; six daughters: Sandra Jones and her husband, Cliff, of Greenwich, Brenda Kovach and her husband, John, of Glens Falls, Susan Barber and her husband, Brad, of Fort Edward, Beth Barber and her husband, Dave, of Fort Edward, Phyllis Underwood and her husband, Wayne, of Shushan, and Karen Kilmer and her husband, Craig, of Salem; four sons: Terry Doran and his wife, Debbie, of Whitehall, John Doran and his wife, Judy, of Fort Edward, Clifford "Bud" Doran Jr. and his wife, Arvis, of Henderson, N.C., David Doran and his wife, Amy, of Boca Raton, Fla.; 27 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Joyce Eddy and her husband, William, of Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be private for family only. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, July 15, at M. B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward, with the Rev. Patti Girard, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, Wilton, officiating. Burial will follow at Moss Street Cemetery, town of Kingsbury. Published in the Post-Star on 7/15/2005. Houston, Alberta E. CHESTERTOWN -- Alberta E. Houston, 88, died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born Aug. 25, 1916, in North River, she was the daughter of the late Gordon Harvey and Maggie Lincoln Harvey Young. Alberta lived in Florida for 43 years, and returned to the Chestertown area three years ago. Before moving to Florida, she worked in the woods with her husband driving trucks. When she moved to Florida, Alberta was a waitress and worked in a mobile home factory. Her latest job was working in the Chestertown Food Pantry She was a member of the Rebekah-Oddfellows Lodge No. 37 of Sarasota, Fla. Her hobbies included gardening, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one great-grandson, Lucas McClure; five sisters: Tessie Harvey, Emma Waldron, Golda Meade, Marjorie Dunkley, and Dorothy Shaw. Survivors include three daughters: Edna Wells and her husband, Floyd, of Pottersville, Beverly McClure and her husband, Jack, of Queensbury, and Vira Simmes and her husband, Dick, of Queensbury; one brother, James Harvey and his wife, Veronica, of Greenwich; one sister, Elizabeth Monroe, of North Creek: nine grandchildren: Linda Warner, Katherine Dier and her husband, Michael, Robert Wells and his wife, Janice, John McClure and his wife, Cathy, Patricia Southworth and her husband, Robert, William Simmes and his wife, Paula, Richard Simmes and his wife, Amanda, Janis Simmes, and Arin Simmes and his fiancee, Cammie Sprague; 11 great-grandchildren: Stacey Warner, Phillip Wells, Lydia Wells, Sara McClure, Chauncey Southworth, Olivia Southworth, Elizabeth Simmes, Michael Simmes, Jason Simmes, Randi Sprague, and Clayton Sprague; two great-great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Faith McClure; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 18, at Barton-McDermott Funeral Home, 9 Pine St., Chestertown, with the Rev. David Adams officiating. Interment will be at Pine View Cemetery, Queensbury. Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. LaSelva, Dorothy (Danforth) HUDSON FALLS -- Dorothy (Danforth) LaSelva, 82, formerly of Main Street, died peacefully in her sleep, at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home, on Wednesday, July 13, 2005. Born on Dec. 13, 1922, in Hudson Falls, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Emma (Rabine) Danforth. For more than 30 years, she was married to Carmen LaSelva. He died in 1986. Dorothy took excellent care of her mother, Emma, for many years. She was Catholic all her life and for a time was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2486 of South Glens Falls. Dorothy also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, watching television and especially spending time with her cat, "Prince." In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Jerry; her sister, Terry; and her brother, Byon. Survivors include two sons, Guy LaSelva and his wife, Barbara, of Queensbury, and Tom LaSelva of Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother, Bill Danforth and his wife, Collette, of Pompano Beach, Fla.; her grandchildren: Kit, Jerry, Lori, Heather, Tom, Guy, Jason, Danielle, David and Brett; her 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins. Her family wishes to thank Dorothy's cousins, Elaine, Lois and Norma for supporting her through the years. They would also like to thank the staff at Fort Hudson Nursing Home for the wonderful care given to Dorothy. The Rite of Committal will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday (today) at the Union Cemetery on Route 4 in the town of Fort Edward. Her family suggests memorials in the form of contributions to the SPCA, Box 171, Hudson Falls, NY 12839.
