COMSTOCK -- Veronica J. Lobo, 82, formerly of state Route 22, Comstock, died Friday, July 15, 2005, at Indian River Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Granville. Born Aug. 12, 1922, in Orwell, Vt., she was the daughter of the late Willis and Florence (Fish) Aunchman. Her husband, Michael J. Lobo, died Dec. 22, 1993. For many years, she was a certified nurses aide for Upjohn Home Healthcare in Saratoga and also at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home. She also had served as a housekeeper at the rectory of St. Ann's Catholic Church. Her enjoyments included cooking, entertaining, making ceramics, but most of all spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a communicant of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Fort Ann and a 30-year member of the Court Mater Mariae, Catholic Daughters of America. Besides her husband, Mrs. Lobo was predeceased by a son, John Lobo; a granddaughter, Stacy Lobo; three brothers: Leaman Aunchman, William Aunchman and Gerald Aunchman; and her stepfather, William Eaton. Survivors include a son, Michael Lobo of Hudson Falls; two daughters, Debra Lobo of Comstock, and Catherine Pekar and her husband, Frank, of Granville; a sister, Velma LeRoy of Irving, Texas; six grandchildren: Mary Beth Langlois, Michael Lobo III, Brandy Lobo, Joseph Lobo, Ann Peternell, Christina Lenney; eight great-grandchildren: Shelby and Savannah Peternell, Jenna Fisk, Carrington Sanders, Aiden Lenney, Peter Langlois, Marisa Langlois and Deanna Colomb, and several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, at St. Ann's Catholic Church, George Street, Fort Ann, with the Rev. David R. LeFort, pastor, officiating. A reception will follow the Mass in the church's fellowship hall. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Mason Funeral Home, 18 George St., Fort Ann. Court Mater Mariae, Catholic Daughters of America will meet at 7 p.m. for services. The Rite of Committal will be at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Middle Granville, at the convenience of the family. EAST SYRACUSE -- Oliver D. Mereness, 83, died Saturday, July 16, 2005, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse. Mr. Mereness was born Jan. 23, 1922, at Cobleskill, the son of Fenton R. and Margaret (Oliver) Mereness. He graduated from Cobleskill High School, Class of 1939, and then served as an apprenticed funeral director with his family firm until entering the U.S. Army on Jan. 7, 1942, where he served in the signal corps as power equipment maintenance man in the Asiatic-Pacific theater until receiving an honorable discharge on Jan 8, 1946. Mr. Mereness graduated from Eckels College of Mortuary Science, Philadelphia, with honors, November 1946. He then began working with his father in the Mereness Funeral Home in Cobleskill. He owned and operated this business from 1950 until retiring in 1990. Mr. Mereness married Hazel M. Osterhout on Dec 20, 1946. She passed away Sept 13, 1993, and he later married Elizabeth (Betty) Keddie Bard of East Syracuse on June 3, 1998. In addition to his wife, Betty, he is also survived by four children: Penny (Alan) Linck of Queensbury, Margaret (John) Collins of East Greenbush, David O. Mereness (Maureen) of Castleton-on-Hudson, and Lori (Harry) Tomlinson of Sharon Springs; seven grandchildren: Nathan, Jared, and Darren (Jamie) Linck, Sean Collins and Brian, Paul, and Brenna Mereness; one sister, Agnes R. Mereness of Unadilla, N.Y., one brother, Fenton R. Mereness Jr. of Campbell, Calif.; and two stepdaughters, Susan (Robert) MacCarthy of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Kathleen (Robert) Kort of Huntington, Vt., and their children: Benjamin, Sarah, Lori, and Kelly. Charlotte (Lotta) Ostring (Swedish foreign exchange student) was a special member of his family. He had one sister, Irene Jones, now deceased. Mr. Mereness was a life member of New York State Funeral Director's Association and served seven years as secretary of the former Ninth District Funeral Director's Association, now the Leatherstocking Funeral Director's Association. He was a former member of Cobleskill United Methodist Church and current member of First United Church of East Syracuse. He was an active member of the Masons participating in activities throughout the Eastern United States and Canada for over 55 years. He served as Grand Master of the Grand Council of Cryptic Masons, state of New York, from 1992-93. He joined Cobleskill Lodge No. 394, Free & Accepted Masons in 1948, served as master three separate years (1960, 1961, 1981), served as secretary for 13 years, served the grand lodge as grand director of ceremonies in 1983, and was an honorary member of Oneonta Lodge No. 466, Oneonta, N.Y. Other community activities include: donating more than 15 gallons of blood; life membership and past commander of Schoharie County Post No. 5088, VFW past county commander of Schenectady-Schoharie County Council, and VFW life membership in Ralph Sperbeck Post No. 249, American Legion, Richmondville, N.Y.; and work with the Schoharie County Historical Society, Vroman's Nose Preservation Society and Iroquois Indian Museum, Howes Cave, N.Y. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, at the Cobleskill United Methodist Church, Chapel Street, Cobleskill. Co-officiating will be the Rev. Laurel Phillips and the Rev. Alan C. Lang of Oxford. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 18, at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. Burial will be at Cobleskill Rural Cemetery. Published in the Post-Star on 7/17/2005. Neddo, James R. WHITEHALL -- James R. Neddo, 35, of North Williams Street, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, July 14, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born on April 18, 1970, in Glens Falls, he was the son of Phillip and Barbara (Gordon) Neddo. He attended Whitehall High School and received his GED. James enjoyed various types of fishing, hunting and spending time with his two sons. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Charles and Evangeline Neddo, and his maternal grandfather, Robert Gordon. Besides his parents of Whitehall, he is survived by two sons, Jaykob Neddo and Shane Smith, both of Whitehall; one sister, Renee Neddo of Whitehall; one brother, Mark Neddo and his wife, Melanie, of Rotterdam; his maternal grandmother, Eileen Gordon of Whitehall; two nieces, Brittany Lyman of Whitehall and Micaela Neddo of Rotterdam; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at Jillson Funeral Home Inc., 46 Williams St., Whitehall. The time of the service will be announced on Wednesday, July 20, in the funeral notices. Following the memorial service, a reception will be held at the American Legion Post No. 83 in Whitehall. Published in the Post-Star from 7/16/2005 - 7/18/2005. Palmer Jr., Scott A. GRANVILLE -- Scott A. Palmer Jr., age 17, died Friday, July 15, 2005, as the result of an automobile accident. Scott was born on May 21, 1988, in Rutland, Vt., the son of Scott Palmer Sr. of Granville, and Verna James of Whitehall. He attended Granville High School, where he had just completed his junior year. He was employed by ASCC of Granville, doing construction work. Scott loved auto mechanics, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and mud bogging. These activities allowed him to spend time with his dad, which was what he really loved. In addition, Scott spent time with his mother shopping, buying parts for his truck, fishing, visiting family and going for rides. Scott was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Gladys Palmer, and his maternal grandmother, Verna David. In addition to his parents, Scott is survived by his maternal grandparents, Eugene and Betty James and Gary and Lucy Bennett; and his paternal grandfather, Winfred Palmer. He is also survived by his sister, Sarah Hayes; his aunts and uncles: Sis and Bruce Parker, Evelyn Palmer and Gary Parker, Winfred Palmer Jr., George Michael Palmer Sr., Renee Mullen and Jeff Loveland, Paul and Alizona Gilbert, Eugene and Cathy James, and Matthew James; one niece and several cousins. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 19, at 10 a.m. at Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville, with the Rev. Bill Hoffman officiating.
