She was born in Saint Albans, Vt., on June 24, 1917, the daughter of Alfred and Ethel ( Monty) LaBounty. They moved to upstate New York, where she met and married her husband Andrew on Dec. 1, 1935. The couple then moved to Bridport, where they worked on a farm. She was a member of Saint Mary's Church in Middlebury. Frances loved playing bingo and cards, and also enjoyed crocheting. She is survived by two sons, Robert and his wife, Joan, of Salem, and Andrew of Ware, Mass., three daughters, Mary Bishop and her husband, Lawrence, of Shoreham, Shirley Norton and her husband, Larry, of South Glens Falls, and Linda Benedict and her companion, TJ Armstrong, of Champlain, N.Y., two sisters, Victoria Dyer of Plattsburgh, and Joyce Bushey and her husband, Alton, also of Plattsburgh, seven grandchildren, and 10n great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a special friend of many years, Louise Forgues of Cornwall. Frances was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, two brothers, Pascal and Clayton LaBounty, two sisters, Gladys Pafford and Isabelle Robare, and a stepgrandson, Jasper Norton. A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 25, at 10 a.m. at Lake View Cemetery in Shoreham. Father Justin Baker will officiate. There are no calling hours. Nichols, Pauline Rose Glens Falls -- Pauline Rose Nichols, age 69, died Thursday morning, July 21, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 16, 1936, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Michael and Teresa (Orsini) Massiano. She was a graduate of Saint Mary's Academy, Glens Falls. Pauline married John L. Nichols Sr. on April 15, 1956, at St. Mary's Church, Glens Falls. Mr. Nichols died on July 20, 1988. She was employed as an insurance specialist for various area agencies. She began her insurance career as office manager for Nate Proller Insurance Company and later worked at various agencies including Cool, Adirondack Regional Insurance and Associates of Glens Falls prior to her retirement in 2000. Pauline had also worked as a Residential Counselor for Warren-Washington County Mental Health. Pauline loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, drawing, playing the piano and music. She will be remembered as a generous, loving and selfless woman with a tremendous sense of humor. Besides her husband and parents she was predeceased by one sister, Carmella "Millie" Cullen and one brother, James Massiano. Survivors include her four children, John L. Nichols Jr. of South Glens Falls, Paula M. Hughes and her husband, Donald of Hadley, Michael J. Nichols of Hudson Falls and Amy Nichols of Queensbury; four grandchildren, Hallie Jo Nichols, Triston Hughes, Hunter Nichols-Suttle and Liam Hughes; one sister, Rosemary Rogers and her husband, Fred, of Glens Falls; one brother, Michael Massiano and his wife, Joyce, of Queensbury; her mother-in-law, Harriet Harrington of Saratoga Springs: two sisters-in-law, Marie Massiano of Glens Falls, Myrtle Palmer of Saratoga Springs; and one aunt, Marge Orsini of South Glens Falls and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Church, Glens Falls. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, South Glens Falls. There are no public calling hours scheduled. Published in the Post-Star from 7/22/2005 - 7/23/2005. Shiell, Arthur E. Pottersville -- Arthur E. Shiell, 79, died Thursday, July 21, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital with his family at his side. Born in the Bronx, Aug. 15, 1925, he was the son of the late William George and Anna (Graswill) Shiell. Arthur was a charter member of the Pottersville Volunteer Fire Department, past fire chief, treasurer, past president of the Lower Adirondack Firemen's Association, past chairman of the board of fire commissioners, and presently an honorary member of the fire department. He served for 12 years as town councilman for the town of Chester and served many years on the planning and zoning boards of the town of Chester and past chairman of the zoning board. He also served as commissioner for the Schroon Lake Park District. He volunteered for the town of Chester Meals on Wheels and was a member and past trustee of the Pottersville United Methodist Church. As a young man, Arthur was a mechanic for the late Eugene Nichols at the Pottersville Garage, then was employed by Towsley and Towsley Sawmill in Pottersville. In 1956, he became an operating engineer and on highway construction including the Northway, Route 9, I-88 and many others. After retiring as an operating engineer, he was employed by North Warren Central School as a bus driver-mechanic and retired again in 1991. He also worked for Seelye's Auction House for auctions for 30 years. Throughout his lifetime, Arthur had many old cars, his latest a 1952 Chevrolet. He enjoyed entering car shows where he won many trophies. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his stepfather, Robert Rufus Allen; five brothers, William George, Joseph Edgar, Walter Car, Thomas John and Harold Shiell; one sister, Anna Elizabeth Robertson. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Della Marie Knickerbocker Shiell of Queensbury, whom he married Feb. 17, 1951, in the Pottersville United Methodist Church; two sons, Larry George Shiell and his wife, May, of Putnam Station, Robert Arthur Shiell of Queensbury; one daughter, Pamela A. Koenigsbauer and her husband, Karl Joseph, of Deerfield, Mass., three grandchildren, Kristen Lee Koeingsbauer, Rachel Michelle Koenigsbauer, and Karl Arthur Koenigsbauer; several nieces and nephews, Carol Robertson and Robert Robertson of Connecticut, and Mariann Carouthers from California. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 31, at Pottersville United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Adams, pastor, officiating. QUEENSBURY -- Shirley L. Smith, 74, of Jenkinsville Road, passed away on Wednesday evening, July 20, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital, after a short illness. Shirley was born on July 14, 1931, and grew up in Fort Ann. She was the daughter of the late Leon and Gertrude (Yarter) Walker of Fort Ann. She graduated from the Fort Ann High School in the Class of 1949. Shirley was also a graduate of Albany Business College. Her employment included the Prudential Insurance Company and Glens Falls Hospital. She left the hospital so that she could be a dedicated wife and mother. Her passions included horses, gardening, traveling, skiing and tennis. Shirley enjoyed her daily walks around the block and talking to her neighbors. She also enjoyed her weekly line-dancing class at the Moreau Community Center. She also had a special love of the great outdoors. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Clyde E. Smith of Queensbury; her children, Gregory Smith and his wife, Michele, of Placerville, Calif., Cindy Smith of Brookfield, Conn., and Alicia Butler and her husband, David, of South Glens Falls; her four grandchildren, Jessica and Trevor Smith of Placerville, Calif., and Davin and Dylan Butler of South Glens Falls; her brothers, Leon Walker and his wife, Sally, and Raymond Walker, all of Fort Ann; her sister-in-law, Joyce Smith and her husband, Dave, of Hudson Falls; her nieces and nephews; and her close family friend, Leslie Costa of Brookfield, Conn. A memorial service, with reception to follow, will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2005, at the family home, located at 42 Jenkinsville Road in the town of Queensbury. Thieverge, 75, a longtime resident of Corinth, died Friday, July 22, 2005, at the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs following a short illness. Born on Aug. 8, 1929, in Corinth, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Agnes (Lamora) Knowlton. Mrs. Thieverge graduated from Corinth High School. She married Arthur E. Thieverge on Nov. 17, 1949, in Corinth. The couple resided on Wood Road in Corinth for many years. He died Jan. 19, 2003, following 53 years of marriage. Mrs. Thieverge was employed at the International Paper Co. in Corinth for 13 years and then worked at General Foods in Saratoga Springs for more than 25 years until her retirement in 1991. She loved gardening and will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. Survivors include two sons, Norman Thieverge and his wife, Dorothy, of Corinth and Edward Thieverge Sr. and his wife, Annette, of Greenwich; two daughters, Marcia Marcotte and her husband, John, of Corinth and Mary Tromblee and her husband, Jeffrey, of Corinth; 10 grandchildren, Darci Mottram of Glens Falls, Sarah Thieverge of Corinth, Bobbie Thieverge of South Glens Falls, John Marcotte II of Corinth, Edward Thieverge Jr., Heather Howes and Hollie Thieverge, all of Greenwich, and Aubrey, Amanda and Emily Tromblee, all of Corinth; 10 great-grandchildren, Kelly Bryanna, Jesse, Micaela, Danielle, Jonathan, Alexis, Bryann, Allan and Shawn; two sisters, Beverly Jensen and her husband, Cliff, of Corinth and Lorraine DeMarsh and her husband, Donald, of Farmington, Maine; one brother, Ernest "Buck" Knowlton and his wife, Pat, of Waterloo; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2005, at Densmore Funeral Home, Inc., 7 Sherman Ave., Corinth, with Marianne Tynan, chaplain of the Community Hospice of Saratoga, officiating. Following the funeral service, friends and family are invited to gather at Marcia's home on Dusty Road, Corinth. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at St. Mary's Cemetery, Corinth.
