Born June 15, 1942, in Geneva, N.Y., he was the son of the late Joseph J. and Angela (Norman) Brown. Besides his parents, his sister, Arline M. Brown, predeceased him. Survivors include one brother, John Paul Brown of South Glens Falls, and many cousins. At Richard's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral services. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made, in loving memory of Richard, to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Maynard D. Church, Marion Gerling South Glens Falls -- Marion Gerling Church, 90, of South Glens Falls, died Saturday, July 23, 2005, at her home after a long illness. Born Jan. 25, 1915, in Albany, she was the daughter of the late John V.B. and Josie (George) Gerling. Mrs. Church graduated from Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady in 1933, and from Middlebury College in 1937. She did her graduate work at SUNY at Albany, Plattsburgh State and Union College in Schenectady. Following her education, Marion taught mathematics at Old Forge, N.Y., was a business office supervisor for New York Telephone, and in 1959, she began teaching mathematics at Lake George High School until her retirement in 1977. Mrs. Church enjoyed sports, traveling, tenting, crossword puzzles and attending antiques auctions. She was an avid bridge player and "Jeopardy" fan. Many of Marion's former students kept in close contact with her throughout the years. She loved hearing from them and was very proud of their accomplishments. She was a member of the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church. In 1951, she was united in marriage with Clover W. "Bob" Church. She was predeceased by her husband in 1965, and her son, Ronald S. Church, in 1992. Marion is survived by her cousins, Helen and Ernie Larson of Schenectady, Janet and Ted Smith of Gansevoort; and several nieces and nephews; also her extended family, Ev and Claudette Crocker of South Glens Falls, Andy and Kathy Thomson of Glens Falls, Donna Bardin of South Glens Falls, the Nyland Family of Schenectady, Helene Horn of Cleverdale, and the "Bridge Crew." Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church, Maplewood Parkway, South Glens Falls, with the Rev. Kelly Warner officiating. Burial will be in Pine View Cemetery, Queensbury, at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Dowen, Lois Ann SARATOGA SPRINGS -- Lois Ann Dowen, 72, of York Avenue, died Friday, July 22, 2005, at Saratoga Hospital following a brief illness. Born on May 28, 1922, in Corinth, she was the daughter of Lewis J. and Lillian E. (Martin) Tooker. Lois was a 1951 graduate of Saratoga Springs High School and served on the class reunion committee throughout the years. On May 11, 1952, she married John H. Dowen. For many years, she owned and operated Lois's Wee Hour Cake Shoppe from her home. She enjoyed making wedding cakes and was a charter member of the International Cake Exploration Societ‚. For more than 26 years, she served as a volunteer with the Saratoga Hospital Guild. She also served as a volunteer at the Saratoga Springs Public Library Computer Lab for three years. Besides her parents, a brother, Clinton "Sonny" Tooker, died before her. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, John H. Dowen Sr. of Saratoga Springs; three sons, John H. Dowen Jr. of Stephentown, Paul L. Dowen and his wife, Tammy, of Fort Edward, and David B. Dowen and his wife, Maureen, of Petersburg, Va.; two daughters, Lou Ann Sailliez and her husband, Charles, of Deltona, Fla., and Mary Beth Dowen of Ballston Spa; nine grandchildren, Michael S. Dowen, Scott J. Morehouse, Timothy L. Morehouse, Erin R. Dowen, Aimee L. Dowen, Casey M. Dowen, Damian A. Torres, Alan D. Torres, and Tessa Nicole Dowen; two great-grandchildren, Febe Anne Morehouse and Matthew Alan Morehouse. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 25, at Tunison Funeral Home, 105 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs. The Rev. Phil Richards, pastor of Christ Church United Methodist of Glens Falls, will officiate. Entombment will be at Gerald B.H. Published in the Post-Star on 7/24/2005. Goman, Howard R. CORINTH -- Howard R. Goman, 20, of Mill Street, died unexpectedly Friday, July 22, 2005, in Mayfield. Born on July 26, 1984, in Fort Polk, La., he was the son of Kenneth and Darlene (Billsborrow) Goman of Corinth Mr. Goman attended school in Schuylerville. He was recently working at Deals on Wheels in Amsterdam. Mr. Goman enjoyed cars, his Playstation and spending time with his best friends. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Howard and Beatrice Goman and his maternal grandparents, Robert and Veronica Billsborrow. Survivors besides his parents include two brothers, Kenneth Goman Jr. of Ohio and Matthew Goman and his wife, Christina, of Corinth; two sisters, Ashley Goman and her boyfriend, Josh Izzo, of Saratoga Springs, and Vickie Fisk and her husband, Terry, of Lake Luzerne; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Simons, F. Warren GLENS FALLS -- F. Warren Simons, 79, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, in Pittsfield, Mass., following a brief illness. He was born on Aug. 3, 1925, in Wells, N.Y., the son of Floyd Simons and Redia Knapp Simons. Warren graduated as valedictorian of the Wells High School, Class of 1943. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps upon graduation and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was honorably discharged from the Marines in 1946, having achieved the rank of sergeant. Warren worked for 39 years in the printing business, for Arkell & Smiths, and eventually Chase Bag in Hudson Falls. He retired in 1988 as print superintendent. He was active in the Glens Falls Kiwanis Club, serving a term as its president. Warren was predeceased by a sister, Arlene Reese. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Simons; he leaves a son, Kevin Simons and his wife, Suzy, of Hampden, Mass.; two sisters, Alice Reandeau of Tupper Lake, and Evelyn Buyce of Wells, N.Y.; a brother, Claude Simons, of Arizona; and two granddaughters. Smith, 74, of Jenkinsville Road, passed away on Wednesday evening, July 20, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital, after a short illness. Shirley was born on July 14, 1931, and grew up in Fort Ann. She was the daughter of the late Leon and Gertrude (Yarter) Walker of Fort Ann. She graduated from the Fort Ann High School in the Class of 1949. Shirley was also a graduate of Albany Business College. Her employment included the Prudential Insurance Company and Glens Falls Hospital. She left the hospital so that she could be a dedicated wife and mother. Her passions included horses, gardening, traveling, skiing and tennis. Shirley enjoyed her daily walks around the block and talking to her neighbors. She also enjoyed her weekly line-dancing class at the Moreau Community Center. She also had a special love of the great outdoors. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Clyde E. Smith of Queensbury; her children, Gregory Smith and his wife, Michele, of Placerville, Calif., Cindy Smith of Brookfield, Conn., and Alicia Butler and her husband, David, of South Glens Falls; her four grandchildren, Jessica and Trevor Smith of Placerville, Calif., and Davin and Dylan Butler of South Glens Falls; her brothers, Leon Walker and his wife, Sally, and Raymond Walker, all of Fort Ann; her sister-in-law, Joyce Smith and her husband, Dave, of Hudson Falls; her nieces and nephews; and her close family friend, Leslie Costa of Brookfield, Conn. A memorial service, with reception to follow, will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2005, at the family home, located at 42 Jenkinsville Road in the town of Queensbury. Interment will be at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Schuylerville. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorials in the form of contributions to the American Lung Association, 3 Winners Circle, Suite 300, Albany, NY 12205-1187 and the Moreau Community Center, 144 Main St., South Glens Falls, NY 12803.
