Born in Pawlet, Vt., on Dec. 21, 1929, he was the son of the late Glenn and Bessie (Andrus) Kibling. He attended elementary school in Pawlet, Vt., and high school in Granville. George served in the U.S. Army 204th Artillery Battalion in Korea from July 1951 thru March 1953. He served two years active duty followed by six years in the Reserves. He was honorably discharged in August 1960. He married Laura Erma Hayes May 1953. They were married for 27 years and had three children: Michael, Carol and Steven. Through the years, he was employed at Willard Mountain Ski area, Fairdale Farms, United Farmers Milk Plant, Asgrow Seed Co. and the State of New York Department of Transportation, Division of Waterways, retiring from New York state in 1987 as a tugboat captain. He was a past member of The Grange and of the Cambridge-Salem Lodge No 481 Free and Accepted Masons. He remarried Theresa (Downs) Simpson Oct. 21, 1990, in a private ceremony at their home in Hudson Falls. George enjoyed being outdoors, farming, working with beef cattle and in his garden. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Theresa. His favorite trips were Hawaii and Marco Island, Fla., but most of all he enjoyed being around his loving family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by an infant brother, Donald; his infant son, Michael; his three sisters, Virginia (Kibling) Croff, Elizabeth (Kibling) Matt, and Charlotte (Kibling) Smith; one brother, Charles Frank Kibling; and one stepson, Michael Alan Simpson. Survivors include his wife, Theresa (Downs) Simpson Kibling; one daughter, Carol (Kibling) Hamilton and her husband, David, of Cambridge; one son, Steven George Kibling of Cambridge; two stepsons, Larry Simpson and his wife, Jill, of Glens Falls, and David Simpson and his wife, Tammy, of Tucson, Ariz.; one stepdaughter, Michele Simpson Sullivan of Agawam, Mass.; three sisters: Patricia (Kibling) Renaud of Danielson, Conn, Ruth (Kibling) Lorette and her companion, Ronald Austin, of Gansevoort, and Kathryn (Kibling) Bennett and her husband, Herb, of Gansevoort; two brothers, Robert Stanley Kibling and his wife, Rita, of Medical Lake, Wash., and Ralph Glenn Kibling and his wife, Nathalie, of Hudson Falls; three brothers-in-law, Robert L. Smith of Queensbury, Phil Croff and his wife, Kathy, of West Pawlet, Vt., and Don Lorie and his companion, Elaine, of New Jersey; four sisters-in-law: Jackie McGlaughlin and her husband, Jim, of Tennessee, Bobbie Burns and her husband, Glenn, of New Jersey, Toni Hawn and her husband, Rob, of Pennsylvania, and Mina Turner and her husband, Dick of Vermont; nine grandchildren: Joseph, Stephen, Adrienne, and Robert Hamilton of Cambridge, Elizabeth and Mariah Simpson of Glens Falls, Anthony and Erik Simpson of Tucson, Ariz., and Katlynn Sullivan of Agawam, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, at the United Methodist Church on Main Street, Route 4, Hudson Falls, with the Rev. David Lefurgey, pastor, officiating. A committal service, with full military honors, by VFW Post No. 1653 and bagpiper Gerald Cashion, will follow at Mettowee Valley Cemetery, Granville. A reception will follow immediately after the burial at the VFW Post in Granville. Leckonby Jr., George Barrett WEST SAND LAKE, N.Y. -- George Barrett Leckonby Jr., 89, of Route 43, died Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after a brief illness. Born in Owensboro, Ky., he was the son of the late Rev. George B. Leckonby and Katherine (Bader) Leckonby, and husband for 63 years of Martha Couchot Leckonby. His father being an Episcopal rector, he resided where his father had churches, including Kentucky, Greenville, Ohio, at Trinity in Watervliet and Church of the Ascension in Troy. He had resided the past 51 years in West Sand Lake, and was educated at Country Day School and Troy High School. During World War II, George worked for General Electric and later worked for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the housing department, and for many years did radio and television sales and repair. He was a member of Junior Chamber of Commerce, Sand Lake Historical Society and attended St. John's Episcopal Church in Troy. George had many loves, in addition to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a railroad enthusiast, had interest and was a member of the Steamship Historical Society, traveled the USA and followed the Russ Morgan Orchestra while enjoying all big-band music. After his retirement, he was an avid reader. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, G. Barry Leckonby III (Thania) of Averill Park, Robert S. Leckonby (Janice) of Queensbury, and David L. Leckonby (Laurie) of Averill Park; a brother, William B. Leckonby (Amanda) of Bethlehem, Pa.; a sister, Katharine Couchot of West Sand Lake; five grandchildren: Amy Pratt (Stephen) of Malta, Gary Leckonby of Arlington, Va., George Leckonby IV (Aga) of Petersburgh, Roy Leckonby of Boulder, Colo., and Adam Leckonby of Averill Park; three stepgrandchildren: Allison B. Moeller (Jonathan) of Albany, Kierstin Barry (Bruce) of Lake Placid, and Brian Michael Bradley of Charlotte, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, William Pratt and Cody, Cameron and Hannah Barry; his dog and companion, "Chummy;" and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held Friday morning at 10 a.m. at DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 4392 Route 150, West Sand Lake, with the Rev. Dr. Harold Carrier, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church in Troy, officiating. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery in West Sand Lake. Persons III, Gordon Leroy CHESTNUT HILL Ga. -- Gordon Leroy Persons III, passed to eternal life on Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at Chestnut Mountain, Ga., at the age of 56. Born Dec. 1, 1948, at Glens Falls Hospital, he was the son of Gordon L. and Lucy J. (Heath) Persons of North Creek. He graduated from Johnsburg Central School in 1966. He attended Erie Technical College from 1966-68. Gordon was in the Air Force from 1968 1977. He was a Georgia resident since 1990. Gordon was predeceased by a brother, Ernest Bertram Persons, in 1958. Besides his parents, he is survived by a sister, Jane Persons Henty of York, Pa.; two children, T. J. Persons and Janina Persons; and six grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Chestnut Hill, Ga., at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 30, which will follow his cremation by Mason Ward Rogers Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1, at Union Cemetery, North Creek. Rudinsky, Corleta Veronica GLENS FALLS -- Corleta Veronica Rudinsky, 87, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. She was born Feb. 16, 1918, in Hudson Falls. Corleta married Joseph F. Rudinsky on March 17, 1945, in Hudson Falls, and moved to Glens Falls, where she lived the remainder of her life. Mrs. Rudinsky worked for Bendix Aircraft in New Jersey during World War II. She also worked as a home health aide in the Glens Falls area. She enjoyed reading, gardening, playing along with the "Wheel of Fortune" TV program and computer solitaire card games. Corleta was predeceased by her husband, Joseph F. Rudinsky; a son, Thomas Noel Rudinsky, also died before her. Survivors include three sons: Joseph F. Rudinsky Jr. and his wife, Christina, of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Roger Rudinsky of Chicago, Ill., Martin Rudinsky and his wife, Anne, of Buxton, Maine; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, at Singleton-Healy Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road, Queensbury. Thayer, Helene J. GLENS FALLS -- Helene J. Thayer, 65, of Ridge Street, wife of Paul Thayer, passed away Wednesday morning, July 27, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital, following a long illness, with her loving husband by her side. Born Feb. 28, 1940, in Granville, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Mary (Gilbert) Doty. Being raised in the Granville area, Helene attended and graduated from Granville Central School. She met and later married Paul Thayer on Feb. 27, 1960, at St. Mary's Church in Granville, sharing six children and 45 wonderful years together until her untimely passing. For about 28 years, Helene owned and operated Helene's Variety Store in Rutland, Vt., then took employment at Rutland Regional Medical Center for about 10 more years, until her physical disabilities forced her to retire. Her enjoyments included all sports, especially football and NASCAR, with Junior being her favorite driver. She loved to watch her children and grandchildren participate in sports and would always be there to cheer them on. Another enjoyment was going to Lake George in the summers with her family. She also was quite a history buff. She would often read about, watch movies on, or visit sites of historical value. Helene was an active member of Catholic Daughters from about 1969 to 1985 at Christ The King Parish in Rutland. Besides her parents, one sister, Agnes Van Guilder, two infant brothers, her in-laws, Romeo and Olive Mayo, and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, all predeceased her. Survivors, besides her loving husband, Paul Thayer, include five sons: George Thayer and his wife, Annette, of Henrietta, N.Y., Christopher P. Thayer and his wife, Debbie, of Rutland, Stephen Thayer and his wife, Jody, of Scarborough, Maine, Kevin Thayer and his wife, Nicole, of Sheldon, Vt., and Gregory Thayer and his wife, Julianne, of Rutland; one daughter, Kelly Turner and her husband, Michael, of Brookline, N.H.; 19 grandchildren: Amanda, Shaina, John, Laura, Joshua, Matthew, Maurice, Westley, Cameron, Alexa, Mercedes, Olivia, Morgan, G. Leighton, G. Alec, Macey, Stephanie, Evan, and Ariel; one great-grandchild, Kaidin; one brother, David Doty and his wife, Patty, of Granville; two sisters, Madeline Crandall and her husband, Ned, of Granville, and Caroline Juckett, also of Granville; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at St. Alphonsus Church, 4 Crandall St., Glens Falls, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
