BOLTON LANDING -- Steven R. Chapman, 20, of Diamond Point, died unexpectedly Thursday, July 28, 2005 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Steven was a 2004 graduate of Bolton Central School and was employed by Frederick's Restaurant in Bolton Landing. Anyone who encountered him will remember his warm and infectious smile, the mischievous sparkle in his eye, and his keen sense of humor. Steve had a zest for life and a genuine appreciation for the beauty of his surroundings, whether boating or wakeboarding on Lake George, snowboarding at Gore Mountain, or cruising the Adirondacks on his motorcycle. During his high school years, he was part of the championship basketball and soccer teams of Bolton Central School. Steven was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Robert L. Chapman. He is survived by his parents, Laura (Quigan) and Stuart L. Chapman; his sister, Alyson, and brother, Robbie, all of Diamond Point; his paternal grandmother, Mignone Chapman, of Centennial, Colo.; his maternal grandparents, Donald and Dorothy Quigan, of Diamond Point and Casa Grande, Ariz.; Aunt Sharon (Chapman) Courtney of Centennial, Colo., Aunt Cindy (Chapman) and Uncle Jim Hammer of Plainfield, Ill., Uncle Don and Aunt Sunny Quigan of Killeen, Texas, Aunt Heather (Quigan) and Uncle Tom Kell, of Willington, Conn., Uncle Scott and Aunt Pam Quigan of Diamond Point, and Aunt Mel Quigan of Bolton Landing. He is also survived by his cousins: Thomas, Michelle and Elizabeth Quigan, J.C. and Kristi Hammer, Erica, Michael and Lauren Quigan, Chris and Dara Kelly, Kirsten and David Courtney, and Alex Quigan; his girlfriend, Amanda Roden; his very good friend and riding buddy, Hal Pike; his many friends, and his extended family, who had the fortunate pleasure of gathering together with Steven at a recent family reunion. Genaway, Kyle Roland DELMAR -- Kyle Roland Genaway, 46, died Friday morning, July 29, 2005, at Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital after a long and courageous battle with acute lympnocytic leukemia. Born Nov. 7, 1958, in Massena, he was the loving son of Frederick E. and Carrie Mize Genaway. After graduating from high school at 17, Kyle moved to North Carolina. He graduated from Brevard College in North Carolina in 1982. Kyle moved to the Albany area, in 1987, to be close to his brother, Stephen. He worked as a medical laboratory technician at St. Peter's Hospital for the past 17 years. Kyle met his wife, Carrie Trufant Genaway at St. Peter's Hospital in 1990, and married her on Aug. 10, 1996. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Delmar. He sang in the church choir and taught Sunday school. Kyle also coached for the Bethlehem Soccer Club. He loved sports and playing games with his family. Kyle loved to run until he was stricken in December 2004. In addition to his wife and his parents, Kyle will be greatly missed by his sons, Roland Genaway and Roman Austin. He is also survived by his sister, Karen Oothoudt and her husband, Greg, of Newnan, Ga.; his brothers, Stephen Genaway and his wife, Charlene, of Winston-Salem, N.C., Chris Genaway and his wife, Vicki, of Granite Falls, N.C. and Kevin Genaway of Hickory, N.C. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; two grandniece and several grandnephews. Kyle will also be missed by his feline friends, Quarter and Jinkies. Born on May 3, 1927, in Manhattan, she was the daughter of Edward and Mary (Sullivan) Calnan. Theresa enjoyed reading, her pets, but most of all she enjoyed her family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers: Francis, William, Edward, James and Joseph Calnan; and her sisters: Anna Vasquez, Mary Dentice and Catherine Calnan. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, William Kanaly of Fort Edward, whom she married in January 1948. She is also survived by her son, William Kanaly and his wife, Giselle Giguere, of Queensbury; her daughter, Mary Ellen Ferrara and her husband, John, of Barnegat, N.J.; grandchildren: Sean, Shannon, Shane, Lisa, Jennifer, Tina and Michelle; sisters, Margie DeMartin of New York and Florence Halloran of Florida; many nieces and nephews; and her devoted dog, Susie. Kaufmann, Carolyn Weill North River -- Carolyn Weill Kaufmann, 88, cherished wife of the late Ted Kaufmann, passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 28, 2005. Born in New York City, she graduated from Pine Manor Junior College. Carolyn studied ballet and opera singing and cultivated a lifelong love of music and the arts. While the family lived in Roslyn, N.Y., she was an inspiring Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Throughout her life, she was adopted by folks of all ages as a surrogate mother. She and Ted began their winter pilgrimages to the North Creek Ski Bowl in the early 1940s. They bought their home, Bewilderness, in 1967 and retired there in 1978. Carolyn immediately became active in local organizations, donating her time, efforts and famous punch at countless community events, including the Johnsburg Historical Society, the Audubon Society, the White Water Races, River Beautification Project, the Upper Hudson Environmental Group, the North River Fire Department as well as the American Society of Dowsers, national and local chapters. Carolyn lived an incredibly full and impassioned life, beloved by her family, giving us all adoration and encouragement, doing generous things for everyone who knew her and living her dream in the wooded beauty of Bewilderness. She will be profoundly missed by her daughters, Kate Hickok Feldman and husband, John; Julie Kaufmann; Deborah Kaufmann and husband, Garry Nichols; her grandchildren: Heather Hickok Ferguson, Andrew Hickok and Rafer Nichols; her nieces, Robby Lynn Patterson and Joan Feigus and her ever extending family. To honor this elegant and gracious hostess, who always made everyone feel at home, her family will celebrate her life and share memories at an Open House from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Tannery Pond Community Center, Main Street, North Creek. Kearns, 89, formerly of Burgoyne Avenue, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 29, 2005, at Fort Hudson Health Care Facility, in Fort Edward. Born on Oct. 1, 1915, in Hoosick Falls, she was the daughter of the late Harrison and Cassie (Thissell) Needham. Doris graduated from Hudson Falls High School in the Class of 1933. On Jan. 22, 1936, she married Forrest W. Kearns at Flat Rock, Fort Ann. Forrest passed away on Sept. 27, 1979, after 43 years of marriage. For a time, she worked at J. J. Newberry, Inc., formerly in Glens Falls. She was a charter member of the Kingsbury Volunteer Hose Co. Auxiliary. Doris loved shopping and driving her 1971 Pontiac Grand Prix. Doris enjoyed visiting her daughter in Wilmington, Del., but complained about the long drive. She was an excellent cook and kept her house so clean, you could eat off the floors. Doris was a feisty woman who would let you know what to do and when to do it. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Palmer, age 72, of Atkinson, N.H., and formerly of Glens Falls, died Thursday, July 28, 2005, at Caritas Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Mass. Born in Glens Falls, he graduated from South Glens Falls High School. He received his B.A. in Economics from Norwich University, graduating with the Class of 1955. Mr. Palmer served 14 years with the U.S. Army and Army Reserves, being discharged with the rank of Captain in 1968. He was first employed with Rist-Frost Associates in Glens Falls and later with Decora of Fort Edward until 1978. He then worked until 1983 as a project engineer at Wolverine Corporation of Merrimac, Mass. From 1984 until his retirement in 1998, Mr. Palmer was the facilities manager of Analogic Corporation of Peabody, Mass. A former longtime resident of Glens Falls, Mr. Palmer was a member of the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church, where he served as a member of the choir and chairman of the Church Building Committee. An avid camper, he was a member and former president of the North American Family Campers Association, Wheel and Pitch Chapter and past associate regional director of the N.A.F.C.A. for New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He was also a member of the American Institute of Plant Engineers, the Norwich University Alumni Club and a former member of the Optimist Club of Glens Falls. He had also served as assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 19 of the Mohigan Council of the Boy Scouts of America. A resident of Atkinson, N.H., for the past 26 years, Mr. Palmer attended the Atkinson Congregational Church and was a member of the Eagle Board of Review for Lone Tree Council of the BSA and was program chairman for the 1983 Scout-O-Rama. He enjoyed model airplanes, woodworking and crafts. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, G. Marie (Stevens) Palmer; two sons, Mark S. Palmer of Strafford, N.H., and Matthew J. Palmer and his wife, Valerie Comeau-Palmer, of Marlboro, Mass., his mother, Agnes (Beakbane) (Palmer) Gibson of Lantana, Fla.; a sister, Alice J. Gross of Holden, Mass., three grandsons: Cody S. Palmer, Nathan J. Palmer, and Ryan J. Palmer; three nephews, and one niece. Born on July 12, 1924, in Glens Falls, he was the son of Arthur and Anna Ramsey. Edward was a veteran of the U. S. Army, having served during World War II as a sergeant. Ed owned and operated Ramsey Sunoco in Queensbury, beginning his business in 1958, and retiring in 1980. He loved fishing and hunting and mostly socializing with his cronies at the gas station. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Florence Ramsey, in 1957; his brother, Art Ramsey, and his grandson, David Ramsey. Survivors include his three children: Jackie Lansing and her husband, James, of Ballston Spa, Joseph Ramsey and his wife, Joan, of Queensbury, and Debbie Holderman and her husband, David, of Gansevoort; six grandchildren: Tammy Patterson, Wendy Devine, Matt Lansing, Lori Rodriguez, Chad Holderman and Ryan Holderman; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, William Ramsey, of Queensbury, and one sister, Catherine Mercadante, of New Jersey. Rudinsky, Corleta Veronica GLENS FALLS -- Corleta Veronica Rudinsky, 87, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. She was born Feb. 16, 1918, in Hudson Falls. Corleta married Joseph F. Rudinsky on March 17, 1945, in Hudson Falls, and moved to Glens Falls, where she lived the remainder of her life. Mrs. Rudinsky worked for Bendix Aircraft in New Jersey during World War II. She also worked as a home health aide in the Glens Falls area. She enjoyed reading, gardening, playing along with the "Wheel of Fortune" TV program and computer solitaire card games. Corleta was predeceased by her husband, Joseph F. Rudinsky; a son, Thomas Noel Rudinsky, also died before her. Survivors include three sons: Joseph F. Rudinsky Jr. and his wife, Christina, of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Roger Rudinsky of Chicago, Ill., Martin Rudinsky and his wife, Anne, of Buxton, Maine; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Smith Jr., James D. BOLTON LANDING -- James D. Smith Jr., 75, of Bluebird Lane, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2005, at his home after a long illness. Born in Glens Falls on March 19, 1930, he was the son of the late James D. Sr. and Ruth (Taft) Smith. Jim was raised in Bolton Landing and graduated from Bolton Central School. He received a B.A. in mathematics at Hartwick College in 1955, where he was a member and president of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity and the varsity basketball team. He also earned a master's degree from Union College in 1965. Jim taught mathematics and coached for 35 years at Holland Patent Central School. He received distinguished teacher awards from Clarkson University and Rochester Institute of Technology. Jim also spent his summers working at his family marina, F .R. Smith and Sons, in Bolton Landing on Lake George. He enjoyed spending time with his daughters and their families, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, golfing and bird watching. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Frances K. Todd; his brother, Frederick C. Smith; his sister, Clara S. Volkmann and her husband, Rudolph; his sister, Janet S. LeGere; brother and sister-in-law, Milton and Janice Todd; and nephews, Frederick R. Smith and Roger B.Todd. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth (Todd) Smith; his daughter, Susan Cady, and her husband, Peter, and their children, Grace, Emma and Sam, of Bolton Landing; his daughter, Pamela Quigan, and her husband, Scott, and their children, Erica, Michael and Lauren, of Diamond Point; his brother, Robert A. Born Aug. 14, 1946, he was the son of Edward E. and Alice (Pike) VanGuilder. Mr. VanGuilder was employed for 32 years at General Electric in Rutland, Vt. He enjoyed country music and playing the spoons. His sister, Joyce Cochron, died before him. Survivors include two daughters, Florence Siliski and her husband, Michael, and Deborah Mitchell and her husband, David, all of Granville; a granddaughter, Kontessa Siliski, of Granville; and one aunt, Florabelle Towers.
