BOLTON LANDING -- Steven R. Chapman, 20, of Diamond Point, died unexpectedly Thursday, July 28, 2005 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Steven was a 2004 graduate of Bolton Central School and was employed by Frederick's Restaurant in Bolton Landing. Anyone who encountered him will remember his warm and infectious smile, the mischievous sparkle in his eye, and his keen sense of humor. Steve had a zest for life and a genuine appreciation for the beauty of his surroundings, whether boating or wakeboarding on Lake George, snowboarding at Gore Mountain, or cruising the Adirondacks on his motorcycle. During his high school years, he was part of the championship basketball and soccer teams of Bolton Central School. Steven was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Robert L. Chapman. He is survived by his parents, Laura (Quigan) and Stuart L. Chapman; his sister, Alyson, and brother, Robbie, all of Diamond Point; his paternal grandmother, Mignone Chapman, of Centennial, Colo.; his maternal grandparents, Donald and Dorothy Quigan, of Diamond Point and Casa Grande, Ariz.; Aunt Sharon (Chapman) Courtney of Centennial, Colo., Aunt Cindy (Chapman) and Uncle Jim Hammer of Plainfield, Ill., Uncle Don and Aunt Sunny Quigan of Killeen, Texas, Aunt Heather (Quigan) and Uncle Tom Kell, of Willington, Conn., Uncle Scott and Aunt Pam Quigan of Diamond Point, and Aunt Mel Quigan of Bolton Landing. He is also survived by his cousins: Thomas, Michelle and Elizabeth Quigan, J.C. and Kristi Hammer, Erica, Michael and Lauren Quigan, Chris and Dara Kelly, Kirsten and David Courtney, and Alex Quigan; his girlfriend, Amanda Roden; his very good friend and riding buddy, Hal Pike; his many friends, and his extended family, who had the fortunate pleasure of gathering together with Steven at a recent family reunion. Corlew, 69, a resident of Oceanside, Calif., died suddenly Monday, July 25, 2005, of a heart attack en route to UCLA Medical Center, Calif. Dick was born July 10, 1936, in Hudson Falls, the son of the late Clarence H. Corlew and Nellie Deshaies (Daha) Corlew of Hudson Falls. After attending Hudson Falls High School, Dick joined the U.S. Air Force on Oct. 14, 1954, as a radio operator. While stationed in Germany and France, with a side trip to Greece, he met and later married Panagiota "Yota" Vlahoulis in Arcadia, Greece. They celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on May 10, 2005. He returned home in September 1958, and worked at Finch Pruyn Paper Co. On Jan. 20, 1961, Richard re-enlisted in the Air Force and retired on March 31, 1977, at Camp Pendleton, Calif., after a time in Vietnam. Upon his retirement from the Air Force, Dick and his family made their home in Oceanside, Calif. He then went to work for Eastman Kodak as a field engineer and retired in the 1990s. Dick was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was so proud and happy when his granddaughter was born on June 1, 2004. He was also a good and loyal brother. He was secretary of the 1010 International Amateur Ham Radio organization, with call letters NC6V, and enjoyed the annual meetings in a different state every year. He also enjoyed coming to Hudson Falls every five years to attend his class reunions and seeing old friends and family. Dick will be missed by all who knew him. He was a very nonjudgmental person and always found the good in everyone. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Gary Lee; a brother, Alfred Corlew, of Hudson Falls; two sisters, Marjorie Vander Els of Glens Falls, and Linda Belanger of Corinth. Besides his loving wife, Yota, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Venus and Carl Budeck of Oceanside, Calif.; his son and daughter-in-law, James and Sonia Corlew, and granddaughter, Kate Isabelle Corlew, all of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; his sisters: Gloria Cooley of Hudson Falls, Sylvia Gitto of Fort Edward, and Joan Belanger and her husband, Jean, of Lake Luzerne; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1, at Eternal Hills Mortuary in Oceanside, Calif. Viewing will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery, Oceanside, Calif. A memorial Mass for Dick will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, at St. Mary's/St. Paul's Church, Hudson Falls. Genaway, Kyle Roland DELMAR -- Kyle Roland Genaway, 46, died Friday morning, July 29, 2005, at Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital after a long and courageous battle with acute lympnocytic leukemia. Born Nov. 7, 1958, in Massena, he was the loving son of Frederick E. and Carrie Mize Genaway. After graduating from high school at 17, Kyle moved to North Carolina. He graduated from Brevard College in North Carolina in 1982. Kyle moved to the Albany area, in 1987, to be close to his brother, Stephen. He worked as a medical laboratory technician at St. Peter's Hospital for the past 17 years. Kyle met his wife, Carrie Trufant Genaway at St. Peter's Hospital in 1990, and married her on Aug. 10, 1996. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Delmar. He sang in the church choir and taught Sunday school. Kyle also coached for the Bethlehem Soccer Club. He loved sports and playing games with his family. Kyle loved to run until he was stricken in December 2004. In addition to his wife and his parents, Kyle will be greatly missed by his sons, Roland Genaway and Roman Austin. He is also survived by his sister, Karen Oothoudt and her husband, Greg, of Newnan, Ga.; his brothers, Stephen Genaway and his wife, Charlene, of Winston-Salem, N.C., Chris Genaway and his wife, Vicki, of Granite Falls, N.C. and Kevin Genaway of Hickory, N.C. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; two grandniece and several grandnephews. Kyle will also be missed by his feline friends, Quarter and Jinkies. Rachel was born in Victoria, Texas, on May 29, 1983, and moved with her family to Lamesa, Texas, when she was a toddler. She lived in Lamesa, Texas, for 12 years, through her freshman year of high school, attending the Lamesa public schools. She attended the First United Methodist Church of Lamesa. The family then moved to La Marque, Texas, where she spent her final three years of high school at La Marque High School, graduating salutatorian of her class in May 2001. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of La Marque. Rachel was an accomplished flutist, receiving many medals in UIL solo and ensemble contests during her high school years. She continued her flute studies in college, and was a member of the Wind Ensemble in her first two years at Wheaton College and the Symphonic Band in her final two years at Wheaton. She served as chaplain for the Symphonic Band in her senior year. Rachel was also actively involved with the Office of Christian Outreach (OCO) on the Wheaton campus. She went to England and the Netherlands with the Student Missionary Project, a branch of the OCO, the summer following her freshman year. This summer, she just returned from six weeks working at a day camp for disadvantaged students in Washington, D.C. That program was a part of Global Urban Perspectives, another branch of OCO. Rachel served as an officer on the Global Urban Perspectives cabinet her senior year. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Wheaton College, May 2005, in Wheaton, Ill. (located outside Chicago), earning a B.A. in psychology. She was a member of Wheaton College Scholastic Honor Society and PSI CHI, a national honor society in psychology. She had been hired as a case worker in foster care for the Evangelical Child & Family Services in Wheaton, Ill. Rachel was on her way to start her new career when, by way of an auto accident in Arkansas, the Lord called her to join him in heaven. Rachel was dedicated in her service to the Lord as evidenced by her music and ministry. She is survived by her parents, Tony and Julie Griego of La Marque, Texas; grandmother, Stephanie Griego of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandparents, Richard and Patricia France of Gansevoort; sister, Carrie Griego of La Marque, Texas; and brother, Ivan Griego of La Marque; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Kaufmann, Carolyn Weill North River -- Carolyn Weill Kaufmann, 88, cherished wife of the late Ted Kaufmann, passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 28, 2005. Born in New York City, she graduated from Pine Manor Junior College. Carolyn studied ballet and opera singing and cultivated a lifelong love of music and the arts. While the family lived in Roslyn, N.Y., she was an inspiring Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Throughout her life, she was adopted by folks of all ages as a surrogate mother. She and Ted began their winter pilgrimages to the North Creek Ski Bowl in the early 1940s. They bought their home, Bewilderness, in 1967 and retired there in 1978. Carolyn immediately became active in local organizations, donating her time, efforts and famous punch at countless community events, including the Johnsburg Historical Society, the Audubon Society, the White Water Races, River Beautification Project, the Upper Hudson Environmental Group, the North River Fire Department as well as the American Society of Dowsers, national and local chapters. Carolyn lived an incredibly full and impassioned life, beloved by her family, giving us all adoration and encouragement, doing generous things for everyone who knew her and living her dream in the wooded beauty of Bewilderness. She will be profoundly missed by her daughters, Kate Hickok Feldman and husband, John; Julie Kaufmann; Deborah Kaufmann and husband, Garry Nichols; her grandchildren: Heather Hickok Ferguson, Andrew Hickok and Rafer Nichols; her nieces, Robby Lynn Patterson and Joan Feigus and her ever extending family. Born on June 9, 1938, in Kingston, he was the son of the late Joseph and Marie (Rehor) Koenig. He was a graduate of Boston College with a degree in accounting. Mr. Koenig first joined Evergreen Bank Corp. as president in January 1986. In 1993, he was appointed executive vice president and chief administrative officer of Evergreen Bankcorp. He retired in 1999. Before joining Evergreen Bank, Mr. Koenig was executive vice president of First National Bank of Highland, where he was an officer in various capacities. He was active in the United Cerebral Palsy Association for 45 years, serving as president of United Cerebral Palsy Association of New York State, and a member of the Board of Directors. He was honored for his active involvement with the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Ulster County, with the dedication of the association's newest residential facility, the Anthony J. Koenig Community Residence, located in Kingston. Mr. Koenig was chairman of the finance committee of the SUNYA Benevolent Association and president of the Senior Service Center in the Albany area. His hobbies were boating on Lake George and Camp 60 at Lake George. His greatest joy was his family and friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph F. and Francis R. Koenig. Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline (Douglas) Koenig, of Cleverdale; one daughter, Louise Marie McLoughlin and her husband, John, of Poughkeepsie; two sons, Anthony John Koenig Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Beverly, Mass., and Andrew Charles Koenig and his wife, Elizabeth, of East Greenbush; grandchildren: Brennan and Jacqueline McLoughlin, Nicholas, Benjamin, Julie and Christina Koenig and Cecilia and Emily Koenig; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn and Shirley Koenig; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Kugelman, Francis "Skip" RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. -- Francis "Skip" Kugelman, 65, of Rancho Mirage, Calif., and Lake Tahoe, Nev., died peacefully in the presence of his loving wife, Karen, on Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at Eisenhower Medical Center in California following a lengthy illness. Born Aug. 21, 1939, in Kingston, N.Y., he was the son of the late Edna and Francis Kugelman Sr. He married Karen Kavanaugh on Dec. 24, 1994, in Lake Tahoe, Nev. Throughout his life, he was always able to maintain his jovial attitude and ability to spark smiles in the people around him. Skip retired from his successful career at Albank in Albany, where he served as vice president of Marketing and Communication/Public Relations for 20 years. He enriched the lives of many people through his volunteerism and active participation in the numerous organizations he served. For example, he served on the Board of Directors of United Way of Northeastern New York, Arthritis Foundation of Northeastern New York, Adirondack Theatre Festival, Northeastern New York Chapter of the March of Dimes, National Kidney Foundation of Northeastern New York, honorary member of L'Ensemble, of which he was president from 1988 to 1994, and he served on the served on the College of Saint Rose Board of Associates. Among the many other organizations Skip served, often as a member of the board, are: Sales and Marketing Executives of Northeastern New York, International Association of Business Communications of Northeastern New York, Albany Chapter of the American Institute of Banking, Thrift Institutions Marketing Association, Community Bankers Association, Financial Institutions Marketing Association, Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Chambers of Commerce of Saratoga County, Adirondack, Rensselaer and Schenectady, New York State Broadcasters Association, Albany Convention and Visitors Bureau, Ad Club of Albany, Bank Marketing Association, Urban League of Northeastern New York and the Empire State Society of Association Executives. Skip most recently served on the Planned Giving Board of Eisenhower Medical Center and was an ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce in Rancho Mirage, Calif. He served on the Board of Directors at the College of the Desert and was a member of the President's Club. His humanity made a lasting contribution to the people of the greater Capital District as well as those he served in California. He is survived by his wife, Karen Kugelman of Rancho Mirage, Calif.; four daughters: Patricia Kugelman of Bethlehem, Pa., Pamela Kugelman of Alexandria, Va., Julie DiNapoli Fairman (Jason) of Incline Village, Nev., and Lisa DiNapoli of Incline Village, Nev.; one son, Paul Kugelman of Alexandria, Va.; and two grandchildren. Merscher, Martha CLIFTON SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Martha Merscher, age 79, of Clifton Springs, N.Y., passed away Friday, July 29, 2005, at Clifton Springs Hospital and Clinic. Born Jan. 7, 1942, in Salem, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Clinton and Elizabeth Coon. She was employed as a health aide at the Ryder Adult Home. Martha was a member of the Phelps American Legion Auxiliary and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. She enjoyed making crafts and loved to go camping and fishing. Martha will be sadly missed by all her loving family and friends. Martha was predeceased by her sisters, Elizabeth and Dorothy; and brothers, Harold, Richard and Clinton Coon. She is survived by her loving husband, William, of Clifton Springs, N.Y.; children: Susanne Dreher of Newark, Jack Fischer Jr. of Glens Falls, Fred Merscher of Phelps, N.Y., and David Merscher of Gorham, N.Y.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters. Published in the Post-Star on 7/31/2005. Ramsey, Edward J. QUEENSBURY -- Edward J. Ramsey, 81, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2005, at The Stanton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Queensbury. Born on July 12, 1924, in Glens Falls, he was the son of Arthur and Anna Ramsey. Edward was a veteran of the U. S. Army, having served during World War II as a sergeant. Ed owned and operated Ramsey Sunoco in Queensbury, beginning his business in 1958, and retiring in 1980. He loved fishing and hunting and mostly socializing with his cronies at the gas station. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Florence Ramsey, in 1957; his brother, Art Ramsey, and his grandson, David Ramsey. Survivors include his three children: Jackie Lansing and her husband, James, of Ballston Spa, Joseph Ramsey and his wife, Joan, of Queensbury, and Debbie Holderman and her husband, David, of Gansevoort; six grandchildren: Tammy Patterson, Wendy Devine, Matt Lansing, Lori Rodriguez, Chad Holderman and Ryan Holderman; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, William Ramsey, of Queensbury, and one sister, Catherine Mercadante, of New Jersey. Rudinsky, Corleta Veronica GLENS FALLS -- Corleta Veronica Rudinsky, 87, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. She was born Feb. 16, 1918, in Hudson Falls. Corleta married Joseph F. Rudinsky on March 17, 1945, in Hudson Falls, and moved to Glens Falls, where she lived the remainder of her life. Mrs. Rudinsky worked for Bendix Aircraft in New Jersey during World War II. She also worked as a home health aide in the Glens Falls area. She enjoyed reading, gardening, playing along with the "Wheel of Fortune" TV program and computer solitaire card games. Corleta was predeceased by her husband, Joseph F. Rudinsky; a son, Thomas Noel Rudinsky, also died before her. Survivors include three sons: Joseph F. Rudinsky Jr. and his wife, Christina, of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Roger Rudinsky of Chicago, Ill., Martin Rudinsky and his wife, Anne, of Buxton, Maine; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Smith Jr., James D. BOLTON LANDING -- James D. Smith Jr., 75, of Bluebird Lane, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2005, at his home after a long illness. Born in Glens Falls on March 19, 1930, he was the son of the late James D. Sr. and Ruth (Taft) Smith. Jim was raised in Bolton Landing and graduated from Bolton Central School. He received a B.A. in mathematics at Hartwick College in 1955, where he was a member and president of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity and the varsity basketball team. He also earned a master's degree from Union College in 1965. Jim taught mathematics and coached for 35 years at Holland Patent Central School. He received distinguished teacher awards from Clarkson University and Rochester Institute of Technology. Jim also spent his summers working at his family marina, F .R. Smith and Sons, in Bolton Landing on Lake George. He enjoyed spending time with his daughters and their families, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, golfing and bird watching. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Frances K. Todd; his brother, Frederick C. Smith; his sister, Clara S. Volkmann and her husband, Rudolph; his sister, Janet S. LeGere; brother and sister-in-law, Milton and Janice Todd; and nephews, Frederick R. Smith and Roger B.Todd.
