SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. and CORINTH -- Mary Carol Dewey, 62, of St. Simons Island, Ga., and Corinth, died Sunday, June 12, 2005, at her home on St. Simons Island, Ga. A native of Corinth, Mrs. Dewey taught school for 25 years at Salem Central School, Salem, N.Y. She was a 1960 graduate of Corinth High School and a 1964 graduate of the University of Maine. She earned her master's degree at University of Massachusetts at North Adams State. Mrs. Dewey had made her winter home on St. Simons Island for the past five years and was an officer with St. Simons Island Newcomers. She was of the Methodist faith. Surviving are her husband of 40 years, Howard L. Dewey, of St. Simons Island and Corinth; two sons, Howard L. Dewey Jr., of Atlanta and Christopher F. Dewey, of Bluffton, S.C.; four grandchildren, Sherman Dewey, Charles Dewey, Emma Margaret Dewey and Jack Hunter Dewey. A memorial service will be held in Corinth at a time to be announced. Hadeka, 86, passed away Monday, June 13, 2005, at the Orchard. Born May 20, 1919, in Proctor, Vt., he was the son of Adolph and Mary (Pekelnis) Hadeka. He graduated in 1938 from Rutland High School, Rutland, Vt. He worked in the family slate industry in Poultney and Fair Haven, Vt. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, having served in the United States Army in Tunisia, Naples, Foggia, Southern France, Sicily, Rome, Arno, Rhineland and Central Europe earning th Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. His parents and three brothers, Joseph Hadeka, John Hadeka and Adolph Hadeka all died before him. Survivors include his wife, Stella (Zolnik) Hadeka; his son, Stanley E. Hadeka and his wife, Rita of Voorheesville; his daughters, Barbara Darius and her husband, Richard of Clifton Park and Wanda Hadeka of New Britain Conn.; his brothers, Frank Hadeka and his wife, Eleanor and Paul Hadeka an d his wife, Jennie, all of Granville; his sister, Mary Blaszczyk of Royal Oak, Michigan; his grandchildren, Robert Hadeka, Kristin Darius, Matthew Darius and Michael Darius and several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 23 Bulkley Ave., Granville, with the Rev. Thomas Zelker presiding. Mitchell, 88, of Brundige Road, Valley Falls, passed away Sunday night, June 12, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital following a short illness. Born Jan. 3, 1917, in Pittsfield, Mass., she was the daughter of the late William & Lillian (Wesler) Mitchell. She attended and graduated from Burnt Hills and Ballston Lake Central School Systems. She married the late Roger Mitchell in 1935, and later had four children. Doris had many interests including reading, word finds, knitting, crocheting, sewing and get-togethers around the campfire with friends and family. She passed on those interests to her children and grandchildren. She was also very famous for her New England clam chowder she provided for all the cookouts. Besides her parents and late husband, her brothers, Art, Willard, and Charles "Charlie" Slider; one sister, Bertha Culp; and one daughter, Patricia "Patty" Mitchell, all predeceased her. Leaving behind a large family who will miss her very much are her children, Donald Mitchell and his wife, Ruth, of Athol, William "Bill" Mitchell, of Valley Falls, and Dennis Mitchell, also of Valley Falls; several grandchildren, Chris Mitchell, Pat Mitchell, Kelly Imrie, Stacey Fusco, Scotty Mitchell, William "Willie" Mitchell, Keisha Mitchell, Brandy Mitchell, Allison Mitchell; and stepgrandchildren, Vicki Smith, Cheri Smith, Heather Smith and Christine Smith; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Lillian "Wanda" Gleech and her husband, Ralph, of Malta. "Chuck" CORINTH -- Charles B. "Chuck" Pacco, 87, died in his sleep Sunday, June 12, 2005, at Maplewood Manor, Ballston Spa, where he resided the past three years with his wife of 61 years, the former Mary Agnes Mooney of Glens Falls. Born to the late Agnes Cohan Pacco and Charles P. Pacco on April 17, 1918, he was a graduate of Corinth Public School and a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Chuck was a papermaker for 21 years for International Paper Company in Corinth; his IP service was interrupted by military duty in the early 1940s. He was perhaps best known for his lengthy career in the New York state credit union movement. After the current Hudson River Community Credit Union was organized in 1954, Chuck was elected treasurer, serving from January 1955 until December 2001, when he decided to step down due to poor health. Chuck also served as manager of Hudson River Community Credit from June of 1957 until his retirement in June of 1982. He served on the HRCCU Board of Directors from 1954 to 2001. In addition, Church served as president of the Board of Directors for Excelsior Credit Union, Albany, from 1978 to 1998. Chuck served as Director for the Adirondack District Credit Unions, 1958 to 1975. He was a member of the former New York Founders Club and served as a National Director in the credit union movement. For his service with the New York state Credit Union League as vice president (1972 to 1974) and president (1975 to 1976), he was granted Honorary and Ex-Official League president status. In culmination of his many years of dedication to the growth and development of credit unions and the credit union movement, Chuck was inducted into the New York State Credit Union Hall of Fame in 2003. Chuck, aside from his many duties as a credit union official, had been active in community affairs for much of his life. He was a charter member, Paul Harris Fellow, past president, vice president, secretary and treasurer of the Corinth Rotary Club; a member of the Saratoga Lodge, 161, B.P.O.E. Elks; member of the former Selective Service Board of Saratoga; and past member of the town of Corinth Planning Board. He was also an avid sportsman, serving as past president of the Brookhaven Golf Club, Corinth; past member of the McGregor-Links Country Club, Wilton; past president of the Eastern New York Golf Association and recognized as Senior of the Year in 1991; charter member, past president, past secretary/treasurer for 48 years for Glens Falls Bowling Association, American Bowling Congress, and in 1977, inducted into the Glens Falls Bowling Association Hall of Fame. Survivors besides his wife, Mary, include his daughter, Jeanne Marie Pacco of Groveland, Calif.; a son, Richard C. Pacco of San Diego, Calif.; daughter, Carol Ann Pacco-Long of Greenfield Center and her husband, Donald, and stepson, David and his wife, Rebecca, and their children, Hannah and Mikaela; daughter, Loraine E. VanAuken of Corinth and her husband, Harold, and her children, Nicole and Brittany Colson; son Paul J. Pacco of Corinth and his wife, Kathy and their son, Matthew. Chuck's younger brother, Bob, died before him in 1985. The family wishes to thank the nursing and professional staff at Maplewood Manor for their care and kind support. Quackenbush, Irmgard Miamisburg, Ohio -- Irmgard Quackenbush, 80, a resident of Miamisburg, Ohio, formerly of South Glens Falls, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2005, at Kettering Memorial Hospital. Irmgard was born on Feb. 22, 1925, in Wiesbaden, Germany, to the late Wilhem and Maria Koch. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Quackenbush; her granddaughter, Sharon Quackenbush; and her sister, Marta Krah. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles W. (Rita J.) Quackenbush, and Robert F. (Carol) Quackenbush of Miamisburg, Ohio, and George M. Born on May 21, 1938, in Keesville, N.Y., he was the son of Francis Santor and Maude (Mannix) Santor. James graduated from Mount Pleasant High School. He lived most of his life in Schenectady. James was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He owned and operated JDS tree and roofing company and also was a chef in many area restaurants: Lacusine, Viking, Mama Bianchi's, Brother Dominic's and many others. Survivors include his wife, Donna Santor, of Schenectady; dear companion Terri Price of Day, N.Y.; father of Darlene (Dale) Santor, and James A. Santor, both of Schenectady, Debbie (Gino) Juracka, and Mark (Dawn), both of Scotia; brother of Anthony (Joyce) Santor, and Michael (Dolores) Santor, both of Schenectady, and David (Brenda) Santor of Florida; grandfather of Rachael, Gina, Kayla, Nikki, Megan, Gabriel, April, Patricia, and Patrick; great-grandfather of Schuyler; and several nieces and nephews. Smith, Josephine Burdick QUEENSBURY -- Josephine Burdick Smith, 92, of Corinth Road, passed away Monday, June 13, 2005, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born May 27, 1913, in Thurman, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Ella (Grimes) Burdick. Josephine was a member of the First Church Of Christ Scientist. Besides her parents, Josephine was predeceased by two sons, Edward Smith and Clifford Smith; her five siblings: four sisters, Verna Fuller, Clarabel Sweet, Beatrice Goman, Margaret Burdick, along with one brother, Kenneth Burdick; and one daughter-in-law, Wilma Smith, Philip's wife. Survivors include two sons, Crosby Smith and his wife, Phyllis, of Queensbury, and Phil Smith of Luzerne; one daughter, Joyce Eggleston and her husband, Robert, of Queensbury and Zephyrhills, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Pauline Smith; two brothers, Earl Burdick of Stony Creek, and Harry Burdick of Luzerne; 16 grandchildren: Steve Smith and his wife, Louise, of Broadalbin, Danny Smith and his wife, Colleen, of Hudson Falls, Kenny Smith of Lewis, Susan Butler of Massachusetts, Michael Eggleston and his wife, Jan, of Deltona, Fla., Sharon Robillard and her husband, Ronald, of Queensbury, Jody Eggleston of Hudson Falls, Philip Smith and his wife, Bobby Jo, of Luzerne, Sara Nims and her husband, William, of Georgia, and Holly Coon and her husband, Lee, of Luzerne, Robert, Susan; and Michael Smith, all of Hudson Falls, Joyce Smith of Florida, Patricia Gareau and Nancy Salisbury of Rhode Island, and Carolyn West of Washington state; 29 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Tall, Hilda Edwards QUEENSBURY -- Hilda Edwards Tall, 75, passed away Monday, June 13, 2005, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. For 15 years, she fought her illness with tremendous courage and increasing effort with each passing day. She was born in Buckingham, Va., on Sept. 1, 1929, the daughter of the late Percy Saunders Edwards and Danie Shumaker Edwards. In the late 1930s, her family moved to Hampton, Va., where she attended primary school. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Longwood College in Farmville, Va., in 1950. While at Longwood, she was an active member of the Alpha chapter of Kappa Delta Sorority, President of Orchesis and starred in many modern dance performances. She was on the Varsity Basketball and Field Hockey teams. During her summers, she taught tennis at Camp Carysbrook. Upon graduation, she taught biology at Saint Agnes Episcopal School in Alexandria, Va. In 1951, her mother suffered an unfortunate early death. She returned to Hampton and taught science at George Wythe Junior High School. In 1954, she was courted by Charles H. Tall III, the brother of her close friend and classmate, the late Mary T. Dier, and married him in October 1955. She soon discovered that relocation was the norm for the family of a Naval Aviator and found herself making homes in Elizabeth City, N.C., Lakehurst N.J., Monterey, Calif., Pensacola Fla., Norfolk, Va., St. Simons Island, Ga., Carmel, Calif., Quonset Point, R.I., and Naples Italy, to name a few. While her husband was flying, she kept herself busy with the Navy Wives Club and raising her two children, Marie and Charles (IV), knitting and crafts, and finding and refinishing wonderful old furniture, Upon Charles' retirement in 1971, the family settled in Lake George and she was once again close to her longtime friend and classmate. While living in Lake George, she worked for Valcour in Hudson Falls, while her children finished their schooling at Lake George Central High School. From 1981 to 1988, she and Charles lived in Smithfield, Va., and finally retired to Queensbury in the spring of 1988. She was active at St. James' Episcopal Church and the Hospital Guild. She became a grandmother in 1997 and again in 1999, and was constantly making wonderful gifts for her grandchildren until the very end. She never complained and always thought of others before herself. In addition to her husband of Queensbury, N.Y., she is survived by her son, Charles H.Tall IV of Bad Homburg, Germany; her daughter, Marie F. Tall of Lake George; her daughter-in-law, Janet K. Tall; her grandchildren, Emma Kim Tall and Kayla Kim Tall of Bad Homburg Germany; her brothers, Melvin Edwards of Yorktown, Va., and Danny Edwards and his wife, Dianna, of Poquoson, Va.; her sister, Georgene E. Huggett and her husband, Carroll Ward, of Poquoson, Va.; her brother-in-law, William K. Watkins of Poquoson, Va.; her nephews, Russell Edwards, William Watkins Jr., Danny Edwards Jr., Greg Edwards, Bret Huggett, John Dier, James Dier, Douglas Dier, Charles Dier, and Michael Dier; and her nieces, Jenny Edwards, and Linda Ann Watkins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Shirley Watkins; her niece, Danie Ann Huggett; her nephew, Kenny Ray Watkins; and her sister-in-law and close friend, Mary T. Dier. Published in the Post-Star on 6/15/2005. Thomas, Reginald H. SEBRING, Fla. and FORT EDWARD -- Reginald H. Thomas of Sebring, Fla., and Fort Edward, passed away under Good Shepard Hospice Care at Crown Point Assisted Living Facility in Sebring, Fla., on Monday, June 13, 2005, after a short illness. He was 90. Born March 6, 1915, in Whitehall, he was the son of James and Elizabeth Thomas. Reg was a lifelong resident of South Glens Falls, graduating from South Glens Falls High School and attending Union College. Mr. Thomas was employed in the Engineering department of General Electric Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1975. He was also owner of Lake George Outboard Marina in Dunham's Bay in the 1950s and 1960s. He married Lucille Roberts on June 1, 1937, and they spent 53 wonderful years together. After his retirement, they spent many years traveling in their RV, visiting all lower 48 states and some of Canada. They loved calling Florida their winter home as they were both beach lovers. Lucille passed away on Feb. 22, 1990. Dad was blessed to meet and marry his second wife, Vivian Brumber, whom he met at a "mistake meeting"; they were married on Aug. 10, 1991. Vivian passed away on Dec. 17, 2002. He felt he was very blessed in this life to have been married to two such wonderful women. Reg was predeceased by his parents, both of his wives, and his sister, Jessie Weinman, of Albany and Assembly Point on Lake George. Reg is survived by his children, Sharon (Doug) Heide of Fort Edward, Jon (Bobbie) Thomas of Huntington Beach, Calif., Bill (Bette) Thomas of Hudson Falls. His grandchildren, Beth (Butch) Stevenson of South Glens Falls, Karrie (Scott) Cooke of South Glens Falls, Christine (Steve) Sarsick of Ballston Spa, Wm. Thomas of Ballston Spa, Debra (Les) Gebhart of Montana, Dede Thomas of California; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his favorite niece, Helen Randolph of Queensbury. At Mr. Thomas' request, there will be a direct cremation with graveside services at a later date at Pine View Cemetery, Queensbury. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the National Crematory in Sarasota, Fla., and Pine View Cemetery in Queensbury.
