FRUITLAND PARK, Fla. -- Carl H. Adams Sr., 76, a resident of Fruitland Park, Fla., formerly of Greenwich, died Wednesday, June 15, 2005. Born April 1, 1929, in Cambridge, N.Y., he was the son of the late Harold and Mary Jane Harrington Adams. Carl was a 20-year Navy retiree, with service to his country on the following ship: USS Kankakee AO-39, USS Gen. JC Breckinridge AP-176, USS Iowa BB-61, USS Galveston CLG-3 and the USS Oak Ridge ARDM-1. He also retired from the General Electric Co. after 20 years of service. He was a lifetime member of Post No. 7291 VFW, a member of Liberty Post No. 515 American Legion, and a 37-year member of Ashlar Lodge No. 584 Free & Accepted Masons in Greenwich In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Derby. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Nancy Bullock Adams of Fruitland Park, Fla.; one son, Carl H. Adams Jr. of Sharon, N.H.; two daughters, Donna Adams Eichen of Sarasota, Fla. and Judy Adams Khartabil of East Hampstead, N.H.; two brothers, David Adams of Schuylerville and Harold Adams of Argyle; two sisters, Beatrice Harrington of Greenwich and Jane Cleveland of Cambridge; and seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 20, at Flynn Bros., Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich, with the Rev. Richard Gratz, pastor of the Centenary United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Published in the Post-Star on 6/17/2005. Conner, Robert C. SARATOGA SPRINGS -- Robert C. Conner, 83, died of cancer, Wednesday, at Saratoga Hospital nursing home. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Nov. 22, 1921, the son of Frank W. and Edith Helm Conner, he grew up in Wayne, Pa. His three elder brothers, Frank, David and John Conner, predeceased him. He graduated from Radnor High School and won a scholarship to Princeton University, where he graduated in 1943. Mr. Conner spent his entire career with Pan American World Airways. During World War II, he was a Navy ensign, working for Pan Am under contract with the U.S. military, serving as a navigator on transport flights to North Africa. After the war, he became a Pan Am dispatcher in London, and ultimately manager of flight control-Europe. He ended his career in New York as Pan Am's manager of flight control standards. Mr. Conner was a longtime choir member at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Woking, Surrey, England, and also sang several times with the Royal Choral Society at London's Albert Hall. He also enjoyed sailing and travel, and had a gift for friendship. In retirement in Bradenton, Fla., Mr. Conner did volunteer work for The Salvation Army, was a guardian ad litem and tutored children, and was the president of his condominium association. Surviving are his wife, Florence E. Conner, of Prestwick Chase, Greenfield; a daughter, Christina Arber, of Shipley, England; a son, Robert C. Conner Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Glens Falls; six grandchildren: Mary Arber, Michael Arber, Kathleen Arber, Patrick Arber, Mary Conner and Thomas Conner; one stepgrandson, John Machell; three great-grandsons; Samuel Owers, Jude Owers and William Robert Arber. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 19, 2005, at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls, at the corner of Glen and Notre Dame streets. There are no calling hours. Flansburg, James Edward LYONS FALLS -- James Edward Flansburg, 68, of Gorham Street, Lyons Falls, husband of Colleen Marie Reese, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, June 15, 2005. Mr. Flansburg was born in Lowville on May 29, 1937, a son of Jane A. Jackson Flansburg, and the late DeForest A. Flansburg Sr. He grew up in Lyons Falls, and in Constableville, where he graduated from high school with the Class of 1955. From 1957-1959, he served in the U.S. Army and then for 50 years he was employed as a log skidder operator in the logging business in upstate New York. James is survived by his wife, Colleen; his mother, Jane, of Boonville; three sons: Scott J. Flansburg and his wife, Eva, of Boonville, Russell E. Flansburg and his wife, Julie, of Queensbury, and James E. Flansburg II of Queensbury; two daughters, Judy M. Howard and her husband, Russ, of Queensbury, and Marie E. Flansburg of Adams; stepchildren: Sonja B. Downing and her husband, William, of Boonville, and Timothy Grabowski of Lyons Falls; 15 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three brothers: DeForest C. "Bud" Flansburg and his wife, Rita, of Constableville, Duane Flansburg and his wife, Eileen, of Camden, and Thomas A. Flansburg and his wife, Patricia, of Constableville; and two sisters, Wanetta Norton of Boonville and Jeanette Colasanti of Utica. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St., Boonville. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Boonville. Jarvis, 75, of Queensbury, passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, surrounded by his loving family and his cats Tigger and Charlie. Marshall was born in Feeder Dam, Glens Falls, on Aug. 17, 1929, the son of the late Arthur L. and Eva (Hall) Jarvis. He attended Big Cross Street School, and graduated from Glens Falls High School, Class of 1949. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving four years during the Korean War. On July 26, 1953, he married Loraine D. Ovitt of Queensbury. He worked for 42 years at Finch, Pruyn and retired in 1989. Marshall's love was his family, and gardening was his favorite passion. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending quality time with his grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by an infant son, Marshall Jr., and a brother, Richard "Dick" Jarvis. Besides his loving wife of 52 years, "Rainie," of Queensbury, he is survived by his children: Pam Stanton and her husband, Art, of Queensbury, Marcia Gonyeau and her husband, George, of Crown Point, Lee Jarvis and his wife, Ernestine, of Queensbury, Ruby Moses and her husband, Rick, of Stony Creek, Melissa Jarvis-Crawford and her husband, Adam, of Groton, Conn., and Cori Mattison and her husband, Jay, of Queensbury; 15 grandchildren: Mike, Jami, Laura, Sare, Shelly, Kevy, Erica, Nessa, Joe, Chey-Chey, Brandon, Derek, Amanda, Matthew and Nate; his sisters, Janice Burch of Galway, Jeannine Monroe of Glens Falls, and Dolly Williams of Queensbury; his sister-in-law, Barbara Jarvis of Queensbury; and several nieces and nephews. Published in the Post-Star on 6/17/2005. Lapham, Mildred Stiles WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Mildred Stiles Lapham, in her 100th year, passed away June 15, 2005, at her home in West Palm Beach, Fla. Born in Troy, N.Y., May 22, 1906, she was the daughter of the late Frank O. Stiles Jr. and Ellen M. Sherman Stiles. Mrs. Lapham was a graduate of Syracuse University and worked as a hospital dietitian for several years. Her work career was completed at New York Hospital as the personnel director. Mrs. Lapham was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of West Palm Beach, Fla. She was predeceased by her first husband, Foster H. Platt M.D., and her second husband, Bryon J. Lapham Sr., who died in 1990; a half sister, Edna Jean Stiles McKee. Mrs. Lapham is survived by several first cousins in New York state; two nieces, Gail Keiser and Carol Johnson of Sarasota, Fla.; two grandnieces and a grandnephew. Also surviving are two stepsons, Bryon J. Lapham Jr. of Greenwich, and Thomas H. Lapham of Queensbury. She is also survived by five stepgrandchildren and their families. Smith, Josephine Burdick QUEENSBURY -- Josephine Burdick Smith, 92, of Corinth Road, passed away Monday, June 13, 2005, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born May 27, 1913, in Thurman, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Ella (Grimes) Burdick. Josephine was a member of the First Church Of Christ Scientist. Besides her parents, Josephine was predeceased by two sons, Edward Smith and Clifford Smith; her five siblings: four sisters, Verna Fuller, Clarabel Sweet, Beatrice Goman, Margaret Burdick, along with one brother, Kenneth Burdick; and one daughter-in-law, Wilma Smith, Philip's wife. Survivors include two sons, Crosby Smith and his wife, Phyllis, of Queensbury, and Phil Smith of Luzerne; one daughter, Joyce Eggleston and her husband, Robert, of Queensbury and Zephyrhills, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Pauline Smith; two brothers, Earl Burdick of Stony Creek, and Harry Burdick of Luzerne; 16 grandchildren: Steve Smith and his wife, Louise, of Broadalbin, Danny Smith and his wife, Colleen, of Hudson Falls, Kenny Smith of Lewis, Susan Butler of Massachusetts, Michael Eggleston and his wife, Jan, of Deltona, Fla., Sharon Robillard and her husband, Ronald, of Queensbury, Jody Eggleston of Hudson Falls, Philip Smith and his wife, Bobby Jo, of Luzerne, Sara Nims and her husband, William, of Georgia, and Holly Coon and her husband, Lee, of Luzerne, Robert, Susan; and Michael Smith, all of Hudson Falls, Joyce Smith of Florida, Patricia Gareau and Nancy Salisbury of Rhode Island, and Carolyn West of Washington state; 29 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother was a strong presence in all of our lives and will never be forgotten! Tarbox, Deborah Kay LONG LAKE -- Deborah Kay Tarbox, 42, of Rotterdam, died Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at St. Peters Hospital in Albany. Born Feb. 12, 1963, in Cortland, she was the daughter of Jewett W. and Mabel C. (Cooper) Tarbox. Raised in Long Lake, Debbie enjoyed playing all girls sports at Long Lake High School and playing the saxophone with the school's band. A 1981 graduate of Long Lake High School, she also received an associate's degree from North Country Community College. For many years she made her home in Rotterdam with her daughter, her two sisters, and a nephews. She had been a manager of Pets and More of Albany prior to her current job in the retail department of Sears in Rotterdam. She loved to knit and crochet and to learn about butterflies. Survivors include her parents of Long Lake; a daughter, Heather Tarbox of Tennessee; three sisters, Catherine Kalina and her husband, Nelson, of San Antonio, Texas, Rebecca Tarbox and Holly Jacobs of Rotterdam; two nephews, Travis Kalina of San Antonio, Texas, and Zachary Jacobs of Rotterdam; a niece, Lacey Kalina of San Antonio; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at Long Lake, with the pastor of Long Lake Wesleyan Church, Kevin Austin, officiating. A luncheon at the Methodist Church will follow. A scholarship fund will be started in Debbie's memory for an average student graduating from Long Lake High School. JOHNSBURG -- Nathan Willis Taylor, 4 lbs. 8 oz., infant son of John Taylor and Heather Lewis of Hill Cottage Road, Johnsburg, was called to heaven to be another special angel, Thursday evening, June 9, 2005, from Albany Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family, joining his two paternal aunts, Amanda and Denise Taylor, and his paternal great-grandfather, Willis Hastings. Before his passing, he was awarded a Certificate of Baptism by Kathleen Reilly, officiant, of St. Teresa's of Albany. Born just 27 hours prior, Wednesday afternoon, June 8, at 4:16 p.m., we will never forget his precious features, the soft touch of his skin, and how much we will miss him! Besides his parents, survivors include his three sisters, Ashleigh and Camille Taylor, and Cassidy Lewis, of Johnsburg; maternal grandparents, Wilfred "Willy" and Debbie St. Amour of Queensbury; paternal grandparents, Jennie and John Taylor of Johnsburg; maternal great-grandparents, Floyd and Margaret Batease of Queensbury; paternal great-grandmother, Abbie Hastings of Warrensburg; one maternal uncle, Ian Lewis and his fiance‚, Theresa Norton, of Warrensburg; one paternal aunt, Elizabeth Hayes and her husband, Damian, also of Warrensburg; two cousins, Lydia and Ian Hayes of Warrensburg; many great-aunts, great- uncles, and one special teddy bear, "Angel."
