"Babe" Granville -- Gladys J. "Babe" Aldrich, age 77, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at the Indian River Rehabilitation and Health Care Center after a long illness. Babe was born on June 27, 1927, in Granville, the daughter of John E. Jones of Wales and Gladys (Williams) Jones. After graduating from high school, Babe worked at L. E. Roberts Jewelry Store and Nora Lee in Granville for many years. She attended the Peniel Presbyterian Church of Granville and was very supportive of the church through the years. Babe was predeceased by her husband, Robert S. Aldrich, her brother, John "Jack" Jones, and two sisters, Kate Jones and Elizabeth Trabka. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 24, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville, with the Rev. Jerry McKinney officiating. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Mettowee Cemetery in Granville. Brown, Deborah Elaine HEBRON AND LAKE BOMOSEEN, Vt. -- Debby Brown, 21, of Hebron N.Y., and Lake Bomoseen, Vt., died unexpectedly from an automobile accident on her way to a horse show, on Sunday, June 19, 2005, in Lexington, Va. Debby was born on April, 26, 1984, in Glens Falls, and was the daughter of Davene Sheridan Brown and Gerald R. Brown. Debby was a member of Vermont chapter of International Flying Farmers, Vermont National Barrel Horse Association, American Professional Rodeo Association, and was a certified horseback riding instructor. She loved training and riding horses and was an accomplished horsewoman. She was proud of the fact she soloed a single engine land airplane on her 16th birthday and obtained her private pilot's license on her 17th birthday. Debby graduated from Long Trail School in Dorset, Vt. She was a senior french and communications major at Bridgewater College, Bridgewater, Va. She spent a semester abroad in Strasbourg, France. She was predeceased by her grandfather, David Sheridan. Survivors besides her parents include a brother, Dan Brown and his fiance‚, Katherine Hill, of Hubbardton, Vt.; a sister, Amy Gauthier of Hudson Falls, and her children, Shelby, Joshua, and Christopher Gauthier; her maternal grandmother, Janet Sheridan of Argyle; her paternal grandparents, Leda and Maurice Brown of Granville; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Bruce, 79, formerly of Skene Street, passed away at Glens Falls Hospital on Monday, June 20, 2005, following a long illness. Born on Jan. 13, 1926, in Whitehall, he was the son of the late Henry and Mary (Baker) Bruce. Mr. Bruce was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II. After serving for over 50 years, he retired as a clerk for the Delaware & Hudson Railroad. He also was a former employee of the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the American Legion, Post No. 83 of Whitehall and a lifetime member of the Whitehall Elks Lodge No. 1491 of Whitehall. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Julia M. Bruce, who passed away on May 16, 2005; and two brothers, Claude Bruce and William Bruce. He is survived by one son, Richard H. Bruce and his wife, Kandy, of Whitehall; two grandchildren, Kerrie Gordon and her husband, Gary, of South Glens Falls, and Richard D. Bruce and his wife, Janice, of Whitehall; four great-grandchildren, Zachary Gordon, Kassidy Gordon, Jessica Bruce and Ricky Bruce; one sister, Joyce Marviglio and her husband, Charles, of Whitehall; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. today, June 23, at Jillson Funeral Home, Inc., 46 Williams St., Whitehall, with the Rev. Ashley Meade, officiating. Ellsworth, Gyle Courtney GLENS FALLS -- Gyle Courtney Ellsworth, 84, of Cortland Street, passed away Monday morning, June 20, 2005, at the Stanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Queensbury, following a long illness. Born in Glens Falls, on March 24, 1921, he was the third son of Samuel and Amelia (Chapman) Ellsworth. Following graduation from Glens Falls High School, Gyle served in the United States Army in Central Europe during World War II. His Declarations and Citations earned were the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal being honorably discharged in December of 1945. A lifetime resident of Glens Falls, Gyle worked at Ciba-Geigy, formerly Hercules and Imperial, in various departments, for more than 40 years. His many interests included camping, travel, fishing, hunting, carpentry, genealogy, and collecting antique wood working tools. He was a skilled craftsman. His memberships include the Veterans of Foreign Wars Queensbury Post No. 6196, the American Legion Post No. 1797, and the BPOE Elks Lodge No. 81. Besides his parents, his only son, Gyle Gary Ellsworth, who passed away in July of 1995, and his two brothers, Virgil and Carl Ellsworth, all predeceased him. Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Ella Gwinn Ellsworth; one daughter, Ruth Jeanette Woods of Santa Rosa, Calif.; two granddaughters, Laura Woods and Sarah Ellsworth, both of California; three grandsons, Bobby Woods of Seattle, Wash., Matthew Ellsworth and Jessie Ellsworth, both of California. At Gyle's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Fiore, Mary Pickett FAIRFAX, Va. -- Mary Pickett Fiore, 73, of Fairfax, Va., passed away in her home on Saturday, June 18, 2005, with Alzheimer's disease. Born on May 4, 1932, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Anne and John Pickett. She graduated from Saint Mary's Academy, Glens Falls, in 1950. Then the College of St. Rose in Albany with a degree in nursing. She did graduate work in public health administration at Marquette University. Mary worked as a public health nurse for Warren County, and as an Alcoholism Counselor for Fairfax County, Va. She was married on Dec. 9, 1956, at St. Mary's Church, Glens Falls, to Adolph A. Fiore, Cmdr., U.S. Navy (retired). She enjoyed sailing, Fairfax, Va., and Glens Falls families, and her golden retriever, Lady. Mary was predeceased by her father, John Pickett, her mother, Anne Pickett, and her brother, Edmund Pickett. Survivors include her loving husband, Adolph A. Fiore, Cmdr., USN (Retired); loving mother of, David A., Eileen M., Margaret A. Fiore, Kari Fiore-Walker (Benjamin) and Jennifer A. Fiore; sister of, Eileen Prairie, June West, and Patricia Law; grandmother of Shawn, Amanda, and Kaitlan; great-grandmother of Taylor. Herlihy, Robert F. EAST GREENBUSH -- Robert F. Herlihy, 95, formerly of 501 Huntington Court, died early Sunday afternoon, June 19, 2005, at Van Rensselaer Manor in Troy, N.Y., after a long illness. Bob was born Nov. 9, 1909, in London, England, the son of John and Jennie Seery Herlihy. He attended the Royal Naval College of Engineering and came to the United States as a young man. Bob served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942 until 1945. He was a crane operator and a member of the Union of Operating Engineers Local No. 106 Albany, N.Y. He worked for various construction firms throughout the area. Bob resided in Albany and Newcomb, N.Y., for many years. he resided in East Greenbush since 1982. He was a member of the BPO Elks, the American Legion, and he was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Clinton Heights, N.Y. Bob was predeceased by his wife, Theresa J. Herlihy, on Jan. 22, 2004, his sister, Rose Cook, and his brothers, L. Michael and John Patrick Herlihy. He is survived by several nephews, nieces and cousins. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday morning, June 23, 2005, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Olmstedville. Interment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, Olmstedville at a later date. At Bob's request, there will be no viewing hours. Hood, widow of Alan C. Hood, a resident of Saratoga Springs and Putnam Station, N. Y., died June 17, 2005, after a brief illness. She was 94. She was born Helen Abigail Francisco on May 7, 1911, in Richfield Springs, N.Y., daughter of the Rev. Wellington P. and Helen L. Francisco. She was raised in Orange, N.J., and was a graduate of Wells College. Before her marriage to Alan Hood in 1938, she was a social worker in Newark, N.J. Gail and Alan raised their four children in Orange, N.J., and retired to Nokomis, Fla., in 1969. They summered at Glenburnie on Lake George. Following Alan's death in 1978, Gail became a volunteer for Hospice of Southwest Florida, and worked with that organization for many years. She moved to Saratoga Springs in 2001, where she lived at Prestwick Chase and then Woodlawn Commons. Gail was predeceased by her brother, Wellington P. Francisco, and sister, Eleanor Francisco Hood, widow of Alan's brother Norman. She is survived by her sons, Alan C. Hood of Chambersburg, Pa., and John F. Hood of Kansas City, Mo., her daughters, Helen L. Hood of Saratoga Springs, and Elizabeth Hood McGehee of Greenwich; three grandchildren, four nieces and nephews and several cousins, and their families. Her cheerful, loving and broadminded spirit will be much missed by her family and many friends. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2005, at the Presbyterian New England Congregational UCC Church in Saratoga Springs. Gail's ashes will be interred in the Hood family plot at Rosedale Cemetery in Orange, N.J., at the family's convenience. She is survived by her daughter, (whom she resided with for many years) Marlene C. Tyrer Sr., 92, of Bloody Pond Road, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, June 18, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born June 13, 1913, in Albany, he was the son of the late Reginald Herbert Tyrer and Margaret (Greenaway) Tyrer. Mr. Tyrer was raised on Staten Island. He married Esther Tandberg on June 6, 1931. She died on Jan. 7, 1991. Mr. Tyrer was a U.S. Navy veteran serving with the Seabees as chief petty officer, in the Pacific, during World War II, honorably discharged in 1945. He then served with the U.S. Naval Reserve until 1953. He owned and operated several automobile and boat dealerships, including Marine Motors on Staten Island. Mr. Tyrer also had his real estate license and owned his own construction company, building homes in Staten Island and later in the Lake George area. He and his wife Esther relocated to Lake George in 1967 where he was involved in the Tuttle Real Estate Co. and his own home-building construction company. He owned and operated the King George Motel and the George Washington Motel in Lake George until he sold them in the 1970s. Mr. Tyrer was a member of the National Chief Petty Officer Association, the Warren County Sheriffs Mounted Unit, the Lake George American Legion Post 374, and the VFW, Staten Island. Mr. Tyrer enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, horseman and hunter. Mr. Tyrer enjoyed fishing on Lake George and also deep sea fishing. He was also a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson's until the 1980's. Mr. Tyrer was a member of Bend in the River Golf Club in Hadley as well as several golf clubs and social clubs in Jacksonville, Fla., where he met Ophelia Campbell. They were married on Feb. 14, 1995, in Georgia, spending half the year in Jacksonville, Fla., and half in Lake George. In 2000, they permanently settled in Lake George. Mr. Tyrer continued to be active until his death. Mr. Tyrer was predeceased by his first wife, Esther, who died on Jan. 7, 1991, and by two brothers, James and Robert Tyrer; and two sisters, Eleanore Carlson and Florence Tyrer. Survivors include his wife, Ophelia Tyrer of Lake George; one son, Robert Tyrer of Queensbury; two daughters, Irene Zabriskie of Queensbury and Suzanne Tyrer of Lake George; seven grandchildren, Stephen Tyrer and his wife, Jacqueline, of Argyle, Jennifer Jacobs and her husband, Michael, of Hinesburg, Vt., Linda Tyrer Zabriskie and her husband, Jeffrey Noble, of New York City, Michael Zabriskie and his wife, Michelle, of Derry, N.H., Daniel Zabriskie and his wife, Teresa Kang, of North Chelmsford, Mass., Kimberly Lyon and her husband, Jeremy, of Glens Falls, and Laura Tyrer of Lake George; nine great-grandchildren, Stephanie Tyrer, Michelle Meola, Heather and Sarah Jacobs, Gregory Jacobs, Ashley, Michael, Jack, and Daniel Zabriskie; one sister-in-law, Peg Tyrer of Washington, D.C.; and one nephew, Robert S. She was a loving mother and wife and is survived by her husband, Robert Wilson and children, Thomas Wilson, Robert Wilson, Valerie Voros, Julie Bowden, Lorraine Roufa, Marylinn Albert, and Henry Wilson; six grandchildren, Hunter, Reilly, Cheyenne, Megan, Madeline and Avery; and one brother, Thomas Svack.
