GREENWICH -- Garrett J. Bass, 27, a resident of Hill Street, died Monday, June 27, 2005, at Albany Medical Center Hospital. Born Sept. 22, 1977, in Englewood, Colo., he was the son of Gilson and Patricia Farnan Bass of Easton. Garrett married Shannon Billings on Aug. 2, 2003. He graduated from Greenwich High School in 1996, where he was an outstanding athlete in football and track. He played halfback on the 1994 Wasaren American Division championship team. Garrett attended Hudson Valley Community College, and graduated in 2000 from SUNY Plattsburgh with a BA degree in criminal justice. He was accepted for the New York State Troopers and Encon Police. He loved the outdoors and enjoyments included hunting, fishing, snowboarding and playing golf. He was a life member of the Old Saratoga Muzzle Loading Club and held several junior rifle shooting records. He was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes Football team, the San Francisco Forty Niners, and also enjoyed watching the New York Yankees. Garrett was a devoted husband and father. He especially enjoyed taking his son, Tristan, who he called his "Buddy," fishing. Survivors in addition to his parents are his wife, Shannon, of Greenwich; his son, Tristan of Greenwich; a sister, Kathleen Bass and her husband, Dr. J.P. Bissonnette of North Andover, Mass.; three brothers, Steven Bass and Timothy Bass of Columbus, Ohio, and Brian Bass of Grand Rapids, Mich.; his grandmother, Betty Kardash of Mechanicville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and members of his Friday night poker club. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 1, at St. Joseph's Church in Greenwich, with the Rev. Christopher Welch, pastor, officiating. The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery Greenwich. Friends may call from 4 to 7 pm Thursday at Flynn Bros., Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich. Lehrbach, Richard Charles QUEENSBURY -- Richard Charles Lehrbach, 68, of 42 Sara-Jen Drive, Queensbury, died Saturday morning, June 18, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital in Glens Falls, following a 26-month struggle with a malignant brain tumor. At the time of his death, he was in the company of his immediate family and attended to by a dedicated and caring nursing staff. Mr. Lehrbach was born in Mount Vernon, in 1936, a son of the late Charles William Lehrbach and Dorothy (Miller) Lehrbach. He graduated from Lawrence Academy in (Groton, Mass. in 1954, and attended Williams College in Williamstown, Mass., where he received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in 1958 and 1960, respectively. Drawn to the field of education during his college years, Mr. Lehrbach began his distinguished teaching career in the early 1960s, instructing biology and chemistry at Tabor Academy in Marion, Mass. and later at The Hill School in Pottstown, Pa. In 1972, he returned to Groton, Mass., where he taught at Groton School until his retirement in 2001. While at Groton, Mr. Lehrbach served as the chairman of the Science department for 20 years, coached varsity and junior varsity soccer and established himself as a pillar of the school. Among other formal recognition, Mr. Lehrbach was the recipient of the Kendall W. Foster Chair in the Sciences in 1997 and is acknowledged in Who's Who Among America's Teachers for 1998, 2002 and 2004. Shortly before his retirement, the family of one of many grateful students established the Richard Lehrbach Fund in his honor. Moving to Queensbury in 2001, Mr. Lehrbach continued to pursue his passion for teaching as a part-time private tutor while enjoying his favorite pastimes of reading, furniture refinishing, woodworking and home landscaping. A dedicated educator, loyal friend and loving husband and father, Mr. Lehrbach was a truly kind and inspirational man who will live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Eunice (Pleger) Lehrbach, whom he married in 1969, as well as his two sons, Charles Richard Lehrbach and Jeffrey Christian Lehrbach of Brookline, N.H.; and his sister, Linda J. Lehrbach, of North Granby, Conn. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 17, at Thompson Memorial Chapel at Williams College in Williamstown, Mass. His ashes will be interred at the Lehrbach family cemetery plot at the Center, Cemetery, Simsbury, Conn., on Saturday, July 30 at 11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Glens Falls Hospital, 100 Park St., Glens Falls, NY 12801; High Peaks Hospice of Glens Falls, 286 Glen St., Glens Falls, NY 12801; any branch of the Humane Society or Animal Rescue League and to forthcoming funds to be established in his name. Published in the Post-Star on 6/29/2005. McGarty, Jane O. COLONIE -- Jane O. McGarty, 86, died Sunday, June 26, 2005, at Albany Memorial Hospital. She was born in Whitehall, the daughter of the late Owen and Margaret Owens. Jane had resided in the Albany area for many years and was employed by Niagara Mohawk Power Co. in Albany for 45 years, retiring in 1982. Her husband, Richard McGarty, died before her. She was also predeceased by a brother, Robert Owen, and a sister, Catherine Bacher. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Mary McGarty of Burnt Hills; a nephew, John (Nancy) McGarty; great nieces, Alison, Jessica, Kelly and Lisa; and her best friend, Esther Ross. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, June 29, at Frederick Funeral Home, 633 Central Ave., Albany. McKeighan, Daniel J. GRANVILLE -- Daniel J. McKeighan, 62, died Monday, June 27, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born Jan. 24, 1943, in Rupert, Vt., he was the son of Daniel O. and Shirley R. (Skelly) McKeighan. Mr. McKeighan was a mechanic at Don's Auto. His wife, Bonnie J. McKeighan, a daughter, Bonnie McKeighan, a son, Daniel J. McKeighan and a brother, Daniel P. McKeighan, all died before him. Survivors include his stepmother, Thelma McSuthland of Brandon, Vt.; his children: Debbie Crum and her husband, Gary, Shirley Monroe and her husband, Dave, all of Granville, Vicky O'Dell and her husband, Rick, of Glens Falls, James McKeighan and Kenneth McKeighan, both of Brandon, Vt., Cynthia Crum and her husband, John, of Granville, Paula Klotz and her husband, Mike, and Terri Fry and her husband, Mike, all of Oregon, Kathy Hicks of Washington, Greg Singleton of Nevada and Tracy McKeighan of North Carolina; his brothers and sisters: Raymond Skelly and his wife, Lucinda, of Hebron, Theodore Smith and his wife, Rose, of Argyle, Vicky Ingleston and Kathy Adams, both o Granville, Doris Kelley of Castleton, Vt., Francis Smith of Lake George, Lana McKeighan, Louis McKeighan and Veronica McKeighan, all of Brandon; 27 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and three expected; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. McWhorter, Kenneth Thomas ARGYLE -- Kenneth Thomas McWhorter, 64, of McEachron Hill Road, died Monday, June 27, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born on Aug. 1, 1940 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late J. Laurence and Marjory (Williamson) McWhorter. Kenneth graduated from Argyle Central School in 1959. He was a member of the Argyle Central School basketball, football, and track teams, as well as a member of the McWhorter Brothers Bowling team, and the Argyle Riding Club. He was a member of the J.A. Barkley Hose Co. Sandra and Kenneth McWhorter were married on Dec. 16, 1960, at the Durkeetown Baptist Church by Pastor Rev. Nevin Korb. He was a former employee of Checkerboard Feed Co. and Lufkins Excavating. For over 26 years, he was employed by Washington County Highway Department as a heavy equipment operator. He had a great love for horses, and was caretaker of polo horses owned by Ron and Carlene Buia of Argyle. Survivors besides his wife, include his son, Brian McWhorter and his wife, Lynda, of Argyle; his grandchildren, Bradley McWhorter and Alexis McWhorter, both of Argyle; his brothers: Dr. Earl J. McWhorter of South Deerfield, Mass., Gordon McWhorter and his wife, Betsy, of Cossayuna, John McWhorter and his wife, Shirley, Bruce McWhorter and his wife, Sue, Donald McWhorter and his wife, Judy, Paul McWhorter and his wife, Faith, and Duane McWhorter and his wife, Edna, all of Argyle; his three sisters: Mrs. Maurice B. Monroe, 86, of state Route 8, passed away peacefully Monday, June 27, 2005, at his home with his loving family at his side. Born Aug. 1, 1918, in Wevertown, he was the son of the late Harvey and Nora (Olden) Monroe. Lester was a lifelong resident of the area. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944. He served as a gunner's mate aboard the USS McCaffery in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of operations before his honorable discharge in 1946. He married Agnes Walker on Dec. 27, 1941, in Schenectady. He was a career pipe fitter for more than 30 years with Local 773 in Glens Falls, retiring in 1981. Lester was a longtime member of the North Creek American Legion Post 629, member of the former Glendale Lode Free & Accepted Maspms in Pottersville, and presently a member of the Warrensburgh Lodge 425 Free & Accepted Masons. He was also a charter member of the Wevertown Volunteer Fire Co. Besides spending time with his family, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and helping his neighbors whenever there was a need. His beloved wife, Agnes, passed away on July 3, 2003, after 62 years of marriage. His eight siblings, Mabel, Gertrude, Ernest, Leonard, Elwin, Foster, Kenneth and Jordan, have all predeceased him. He leaves his daughter, Hilda M. Alexander and her husband, Jack, of North Creek; his grandson, Jack L. Alexander, MD and his wife, Brenda Lawrence, MD, both of Rochester; a brother-in-law, George Morehouse of Bolton Landing; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on the family from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Alexander Funeral Home, Inc, 4479 sate Route 28, North River. A joint American Legion and Wevertown Volunteer Fire Co. service will be conducted at 7 p.m., with the Masonic service to immediately follow during the visitation at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Newkirk officiating. Burial will follow at Bates Cemetery, Johnsburg.
