Born in Stamford, Conn., Oct. 5, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Dean and Edwina (O'Toole) Davis. Mrs. Besson was a graduate and earned her teaching degree at the University of Maine at Farmington, and recently attended her 50th year college reunion. She married her husband George Robert Besson on July 3, 1956. Mrs. Besson has been a resident of Ticonderoga since 1956 and was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. She was employed as a full-time teacher and later a substitute teacher for the Ticonderoga Central School District and St. Mary's School of Ticonderoga. She was also employed as Manager of the Stone House Motel of Ticonderoga for 25 years. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, George R. Besson; three sons, Alec John Besson of Phoenix, Ariz., Peter William Dean Besson of Ticonderoga, and Francis Blaine Besson of Delray Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Margaret Alice McCollum of Delray Beach, Fla., and Tresha Mary Montbriand of Ticonderoga; and one sister, Wardie Atwood of New Portland, Maine. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Christa Morse, Jennifer Morse, Renee McCollum, John Besson, Alec Besson, Christopher Besson, Anna Besson, Mathew Montbriand, and Josiah Besson, and one niece. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. William G. Muench, pastor, will officiate. The Rite of Committal will take place in the spring at the family plot of St. Mary's Parish Cemetery of Ticonderoga. Burns, Lillian Ticonderoga -- Lillian Burns, 97, of Montcalm Manor of Ticonderoga, passed away Monday, March 14, 2005, at the Moses-Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga. Born in Vergennes, Vt., March 30, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Anna Mae (Maple) LaRock.Mrs. Burns was a lifelong resident of Ticonderoga. For many years, she operated a private laundry service from her home in Ticonderoga, along with selling homemade baked goods. Survivors include two nephews, Daniel LaRock of Paradox and David Monty of Syracuse; and one niece, Anna Mae Frecher of Tallassee, Tenn. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will take place Saturday at 10 a.m. at Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. The Rev. William G. Fitzgerald, 56, of Windsong Drive, went to the arms of Our Lord Monday evening, Feb. 21, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital, after a valiant effort against a long illness. Born May 15, 1948, in Staten Island, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Gloria (Wagner) Cubberly Sr. She attended and graduated from Curtis High School of Staten Island, and furthered her education by obtaining her LPN license, where she was a charge nurse at Maplewood Manor in Ballston Spa for many years, while living in the Saratoga Springs area. Her hobbies included attending bingo games with her friends and traveling to Disney World in Florida. She was a sister of four siblings, mother of three, as well as a caring and loving wife for 39 years. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Robert Cubberly. Survivors include her loving husband, John J. Fitzgerald Sr., of Queensbury; her three sons, John J. Fitzgerald Jr. and his wife, Joan, of Wilton, Christopher J. Fitzgerald and his wife, Heather, of Fort Ann, and Paul M. Fitzgerald of Malta; five grandsons, Michael and Liam Fitzgerald of Wilton, and Brian, Connor and Colton Fitzgerald of Fort Ann; one sister, Dolores Cubberly-Nelson and her husband, Tim Nelson, of Queensbury; two brothers, Frederick Cubberly Jr. of Ballston Spa and Peter J. Cubberly and his wife, Theresa, of Montana, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and many dear friends. Published in the Post-Star on 3/16/2005. Grout, Howard E. Shushan -- Howard E. Grout, 83, passed away Monday, March 14, 2005, in the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington. He was born in Springfield, Mass., Jan. 16, 1922, son of Sidney Emerson and Helen Eva (Switzer) Grout. He graduated from Classical High School in Springfield, Mass., and attended American International College for two years. In November 1942, he enlisted in the Air Corps and was called to active duty January 1943. After formation of a crew, in August 1944, they flew to England, where they were stationed at Framlingham with the 390th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force. From September 1944 to January 1945, he served as navigator on a B-17 they named the "Million Dollar Baby." The nine crew members flew together on all of their 35 missions over Germany and Poland. Grout received the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Polish Uprising Medal for participating in a flight airlifting food and ammunition to the Polish underground Sept. 18, 1944, and the Frantic Mission medal for helping the Russians in their fight for freedom against the Germans. The 390th Bomb Group also received two presidential citations. Grout remained active in the Air Force Reserves until 1982, retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel. Returning to civilian life he attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, earning a Bachelor of Science and two years later received a Master of Arts degree from Amherst College. In 1946, Howard married Marjorie Huff of Lunenburg, Mass., whom he had met in 1943 while training as an aviation cadet at University of Massachusetts. From 1949 to 1979, he worked as a science teacher at Glens Falls High School. During the 1958 to 59 school year he studied at Harvard University on a National Science Foundation Fellowship, earning a Masters in Education. Many of his students later entered the fields of education, medicine and research. Howard was a former president of the Glens Falls Teachers Association and the YMCA Men's Club. He served on the Boy Scout Council and was the director of the Glens Falls Opportunity Corporation, a project renewing older homes for city families in need. He was a member of the Captain Maxson American Legion Post 634. He enjoyed the outdoors and was a 46'R, having climbed all 46 major peaks of the Adirondacks. He had also hiked on the Appalachian Trail in New England and the Mid-Atlantic states. For more than 20 years, Howard was the sponsor of the high school Outing Club. After 30 years of teaching, Grout and his wife retired to Shushan where they continued their active life in the community. He served on the Shushan First Response team, was an early adviser to the Shushan Summer Youth Program and was a trustee and elder in the local Presbyterian Church. He and Marjorie spent many days traveling and researching their genealogies. Howard was a direct descendant of the Mayflower Pilgrims. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, two daughters, Judith Savary of Shelton, Conn., and Nancy Grout-Deshon of Indialantic, Fla., and one son, Roger Grout of Clifton Park. Additionally he is survived by six grandchildren, Eileen Savary Faulkner of Cambridge, Mass., Kenneth Savary of Shelton, Conn., Taylor Deshon of Indialantic, Fla., R. Elliot Grout of Creedmoor, N.C., Adrienne Grout of Troy, and Alexander Grout of Clifton Park. He is also survived by eight nephews and seven nieces. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the McClellan Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem. Committal service will be at the Gerald B.H. "Sarge" Jennings, 75, a resident of Broadway, died unexpectedly Monday, March 14, 2005, at his residence. Born May 24, 1929, in Cambridge, he was the son of Frank and Katherine (Donahue) Jennings. Sarge served with the United States Army during the Korean War and was the recipient of the Bronze Star with Valor and the Purple Heart. He was a member of VFW Post No. 7291 and the American Legion Post No. 515 in Greenwich. For several years, he was proprietor of the White Swan Hotel in Greenwich and for the past 15 years he was superintendent for the Algonqin Apartments in Saratoga Springs. Sarge was well-known in the area for his coaching of several semi-pro baseball teams and softball team at the Greenwich Elks. He was a member of Lodge No. 2223 BPOE in Greenwich. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Frank and Jerry Jennings. Survivors include a son, Tom Jennings and his wife, Barb, of Salem; a daughter, Beth Charron and her husband, Ken, of Greenwich; a sister, Mary E. Davis and her husband, Rae Sr., of Greenwich; grandchildren, Jesse and Tyler Lamb, and Chelsea Charron, all of Greenwich; nieces, Mary Beth Flynn, Nancy Crawford, and Kate Lewis; and nephews, who will be the pallbearers, Randy, Jay, John, and Bill Jennings, and Brian Davis and Rae Davis Jr. A funeral service will be conducted at 9 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2005, at Flynn Bros., Inc. Keech, Candance Porter FORT ANN -- Candance Porter Keech died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at the Sun Coast Hospital in Largo, Fla. Candi was born June 18, 1962, in Glens Falls Hospital, to Leonard and Lucinda Porter of West Fort Ann. She graduated from Fort Ann School and attended Adirondack Community College. After marriage, she and her former husband spent two years in Italy. When they returned, they lived in New Mexico where she worked at the New Mexico State University and also went to school and received several degrees in business. In 1999, she and her son Jason moved to Florida with her dog, Abbie, and her cat, Kit Kat. Candi is survived by her parents; her son, Jason and his girlfriend, Nancy Harris, both of Largo, Fla.; her sister, Chris and her husband, Jeff Clogston and their three children, Dino and Sheena Geracci and Derek Clogston of Clearwater, Fla.; her brother, Leonard Porter and his wife, Karen and their two children, Jessica and Ryan, of Queensbury; her brother, Brett Porter and his wife, Jodi, and their two children, Brett Jr. and Blake of West Fort Ann; her sister, Paige Moses and her husband, George, and their two children, Elizabeth and Katie, of Glens Falls; also many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Kelley Jr., 55, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., passed away Monday, March 7, 2005, at his home after a short illness. Born on Dec. 15, 1950, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Walter Kelley Sr. and Mary Kelley of Glens Falls. Walter went to school in Glens Falls. Walter lived in Glens Falls most of his life and in 1990 he moved to Florida. He was employed by Freight Liner Trucks in Florida as a mechanic. Walter enjoyed working on trucks and spending time with his friends and family. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter Kelley Sr. and Mary Kelley. Survivors include his daughter, Carey Kelly-Neron and her husband, Brad Neron, of Queensbury, his daughter, Mary Kelley of Salem; three grandchildren, Anthony Kelley of Queensbury, Meleah and Madonna Bayne of Salem; one brother, Dave Kelley and his wife, Sue Kelley, of Queensbury; his companion, Rosella Waite of Glens Falls; two sisters, Carol and Jane Hack of Texas; and many nieces and nephews. She was born Dec. 15, 1937, in Bethlehem, Pa., the daughter of the late John & Irene (Kranyez) Csizma. Lillian was a 1955 graduate of Liberty High School, in Bethlehem, Pa. During her years in high school she coordinated musical and dance recitals. She also studied dance with Walter Marsh, and danced in Atlantic City, N.J. While in Bethlehem, she attended St. John's Windish Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was employed in the accounting department of Dixie Cup Corporation in Easton, Pa. After her marriage to Philip H. Mosier, they lived in Allentown, Pa., moving to Glens Falls in 1964. They lived for three years in Tunisia, North Africa. Lillian enjoyed her home, gardening, traveling and her friends in the water aerobics class at the YMCA. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Philip H. Mosier II, who died Oct. 4, 2004. Survivors include her son, Philip H. Mosier III of Bennington, Vt.; a brother, Robert Csizma and sister-in-law, Yolanda, of Bethlehem, Pa.; a niece, Roberta Ann Rohrbach; and a grandniece, Meghan Rohrbach of Lenhartsville, Pa. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville. White, Arthur Salem -- Arthur White, 71, of James Road, died Monday, March 14, 2005, at his home. Born Jan. 23, 1934, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Ralph and Gertrude Mae (Breason) White. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Arthur enjoyed camping, being outdoors and running the roads. He loved going to Gary and Shirley Miller's camp on Lake Champlain, and riding on the boats that Gary built. Arthur and Norm Burch, his best friend and everyday buddy of Hall Pond Road, had a lot of fun times together. Survivors include his companion of nineteen years, Juanita Truehart; his daughter, Terry S. Mosher of Schuylerville; his sons, Mark White and his wife, Katie, of Greenwich, James White of Schuylerville, Richard White of Schuylerville, Terry Sutliff and his wife, Hollie, of Salem, and La Verne Truehart and his wife, Sonya, of West Rupert, Vt.; his sister, Nancy Vanderwerk-er and her husband, Richard, of Greenwich; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and a niece and nephew.
