Born on May 13, 1921, in Ballston Lake, he was the son of George B. and Jennie (Brust) Arndt. He attended Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Schools. Bun served in the United States Army during World War II, where he earned a Purple Heart in the Battle of the Bulge. He also earned the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal. He was employed as supervisor for the construction of the Northway from Clifton Park to the twin bridges. He had worked as a truck driver, for Finch, Pruyn, as a caretaker at O'Neil Flow and as a conservation officer. He helped to build the original VFW post in Hadley, where he also enjoyed bartending. Bun had also run the Gooley Club for many years prior to his retirement in 1982. Bun married Mary Johnson on Aug. 3, 1959, in Canaan, Conn. Mrs. Arndt died on Jan. 5, 2005. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, NYS Conservation Council, the Parker Benton American Legion Post No. 1392, the Disabled American Veterans and the VFW. Bun was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching the wildlife in his yard. Survivors include one daughter, Virginia Swingle of Whiting, N.J.; two grandchildren, Dawn Higgins of Brant Lake and Michael Gibson of Chestertown; three great-grandchildren, Tate Higgins, Travis Higgins and Christopher Gibson; as well as several nieces and nephews. Following Bun's wishes, there are no calling hours scheduled. Burial will be at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Conway, 52, formerly of Delmar, and a resident of Vero Beach, Fla., and Lake George, died Monday, March 21, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born in Cincinnati, he was the beloved son of Edward and Jean Samal Conway. Michael graduated from Albany High School in 1970, and Siena College in 1974 with a B.S. in political science. He earned his master's degree from Russell Sage and was completing his doctorate degree at University at Albany. He was a senior administrative analyst for the New York State Higher Education Service Corporation until his retirement in 1991. He also worked at Albany County Department of Senior Services. He was a member of PEF and New York State Civil Service Association. He was the brother of James Conway (Terri) of Manlius, N.Y.; uncle of Spencer Conway; nephew of Mary Lindsay of Voorheesville, Margaret Huffmire of Guilderland and the late Michael Samal, Vera Foley and Olga Vivian Breiner; cousin of Henry Foley, Sharon Hurley, Karen Wise, Pamela Austin, Michelle Scanlon, Michael Samal, Ted Romanowski and Walter Budnowski; and grandson of the late W. Phil and Anna Samal. Funeral services will be held at 8:15 a.m. today at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen St., Albany, thence to Blessed Sacrament Church, Albany at 9 a.m. Interment will be at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Holman, Robert Edward STEVENSVILLE, Pa. -- Robert Edward Holman, 60, of Stevensville, Pa., and formerly of Ticonderoga, died Saturday, March 19, 2005, at Towanda Memorial Hospital, Towanda, Pa., following a long illness. Born on Oct. 3, 1944, in Ticonderoga, he was the son of Vera (Crossman) Holman of Whitehall, and the late Robert Holman. Robert was an avid bingo and lottery player and enjoyed working on cars. Two infant sons, Leonard Steven Holman and Christopher Holman, three sisters, Barbara Dufault, Rose Hallock and Brenda Holman, and one brother, Lonnie Holman, predeceased him. Survivors besides his mother, include three daughters: Tammy Holman of Ticonderoga, Lisa Holman and Darlene Holman of Port Henry; one son, Robert Holman of Ticonderoga; one brother, Richard Holman and his wife, Debbie, of Whitehall, two sisters, Jackie Flack and her husband, Edward, of Ticonderoga, and Linda Stark of Ticonderoga. He is also survived by several grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Michael G. Angiolillo Funeral Home, 210 Broadway, Whitehall, with the Rev. C. Don Wheeler, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Whitehall, officiating Burial will take place at a later date at Mount Hope Cemetery, Ticonderoga. Published in the Post-Star from 3/22/2005 - 3/27/2005. Lally, Thelma Perkins SCHENECTADY -- Thelma Perkins Lally, of Ruffner Road, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at her home. Born on Nov. 16, 1912, in West Burlington, N.Y. (Otsego County), she was the daughter of Grover and Agatha Telfer Perkins. Thelma was a 1930 graduate of Hartwick High School and Cobleskill Agriculture and Technical School. She received her teaching degree from the Oneonta Normal School. She taught at the Patent School in the town of Burlington and the Waterville Central School. Thelma married Kenneth T. Lally on July 11, 1939. Thelma and Ken moved to Schenectady where Thelma taught at a "one-room" schoolhouse in Glenville, and in the Niskayuna School District. She was a dedicated teacher for more than 35 years and was greatly admired and respected by both her colleagues and her students. Thelma and Ken were very active throughout her life, supporting and providing leadership, service and financial support to a great many area educational and health care institutions and community service organizations. A partial list of organizations that have benefited from Thelma and Ken's interest and involvement includes: the Albany Catholic Diocese, Albany Medical Center, Catholic Central High School, College of Saint Rose, Ellis Hospital, Girls, Inc., Junior Museum of Troy, LaSalle School, Mohawk Pathways Girl Scouts, Northeast Parent and Child, Proctor's Theatre, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Samaritan Hospital, Siena College, Schenectady County Community College, St. Clare's Hospital, St. Helen's Parish, Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital, Union College and the YMCA. As a tribute to their longtime devotion to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, RPI named its Graduate Business School the Kenneth T. and Thelma P. Lally School of Management and Technology. Thelma and her husband received the "Philanthropists of the Year" award for their support of charities in the Capital Region from the National Society of Fundraising Executives in 1994, and in 1999 they were honored with the Citizen Laureate Award from the University at Albany Foundation. Thelma was recognized for her passion for education and teaching excellence by the College of Saint Rose, which conferred upon her the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters in 1999. In recognition of Thelma's support of the college and funding provided by she and Ken, Saint Rose named its new signature building the Thelma P. Lally School of Education in 2003. Thelma also served as an officer, director and trustee of numerous other educational and community organizations. Mrs. Lally is survived by her devoted husband of more than 65 years, Kenneth T. Lally; her sister, Diana Marlette; a sister-in-law, Mary Lally; her brothers-in-law and their wives, John and Dorothy Lally, and Robert and Colleen Lally; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Hilda Tamas, a sister-in-law, Helen Fischer; and three brothers-in-law, Joseph Tamas, Howard Marlette and Howard Lally. Mrs. Lally's family is very grateful to the nurses who have provided such loving care to Thelma for the past several years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, at St. John the Evangelist Church on Union Street in Schenectady. QUEENSBURY -- Lenore C. Lambrecht, 93, a former resident of Queensbury, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at The Schuyler Ridge. She was born on Sept. 5, 1911, in Newark, N.J., the daughter of the late Wertus and Mabel L. (Collins) Current. Prior to her retirement she was employed as a clerk for Hanes Co. in Newark, N.J. Lenore was a member of Our Lady of the Annunciation Church in Queensbury and enjoyed making crafts. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Edwyn J. Lambrecht, who passed away on April 25, 1981. Survivors include a son, Edwyn J. Lambrecht and his wife, Marie, of Saratoga Springs; two daughters, Virginia Kiernan of Delaware and Georgia Benack of Maryland; a sister, Marilyn Bradley of Florida; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 25, at Singleton-Healy Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road, Queensbury. Burial will follow at Pine View Cemetery, Queensbury. Magee, Alton GLENS FALLS -- Alton Magee, 56, of 40A Henry Hudson Townhouses, returned home to the arms of our Lord on Tuesday, March 15, 2005, in New Orleans, La. Born on Nov. 13, 1948, in New Orleans, he was the son of the late Alberta (Brumfield) and Willie B. Magee. Alton spent the majority of his life in New Orleans and Mississippi. He was a resident of Glens Falls for the past several years, becoming a well-known fixture of the community. He loved walking downtown, spending time with his family and friends including many Sundays over the summer months at Crandall Park for the weekly softball game. He battled heart disease and diabetes for many years. He will be greatly missed. Besides his parents, Alton was preceded by one brother, Theodore Magee of Mobile, Ala. Survivors include his special caretaker, Aunt Hazel Richardson of Glens Falls; three brothers, Joseph Magee of Las Vegas, Nev., Leroy Magee and his wife, Kristine, of Glens Falls, and Willie Magee and his wife, Trudy, of Albany; one sister, Hazel Johnson of Gary, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Cherly Magee of Mobile, Ala.; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special friend, Don Smith. The family would like to give special thanks to all the staff at Glens Falls Hospital for their excellent care of Alton. "Betty" Shippee, age 82, formerly of North Shore Road, died Tuesday evening, March 22, 2005, at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, Plattsburgh. Born on May 4, 1922, in New York City, she was the daughter of Otto and Florence (Reid) Eisen. She married Henry E. "Hank" Shippee on Dec. 20, 1943, in Corinth. Mr. Shippee died on July 5, 1994. Betty was an avid reader. She enjoyed her cats, watching movies on television, shopping and traveling throughout the country with her sister, Peggy, and brother-in-law, Francis. She was predeceased by one sister, Mary Tracy, and one brother, William Eisen. Survivors include her sister, Margaret "Peggy" Curran and her husband, Francis, of Peru; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday at Brewer Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Church St., Lake Luzerne, with the Rev. Dan Jones, pastor of the Community Church of Conklingville, officiating. Smythe, 66, of East Road, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, March 22, 2005. Born on Feb. 26, 1939, in Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Edward and Hilda (Nickerson) Frey. Elaine graduated from Roslindale High School in Roslindale, Mass. She married her high school sweetheart, Bruce Smythe, on Jan. 19, 1958, in New Hampshire. Bruce passed away on Nov. 10, 1997, after 39 wonderful years of marriage. Elaine and her husband lived most of their lives in Roslindale, Mass., where she was a bookkeeper at the Village Pre School. They later moved to Fort Edward in 1997. Her memberships included the Roslindale Congregational Church, where she was a past deaconess. She was active in this area as a member of the Moreau Community Fun Band, a volunteer at the Glens Falls Hospital Guild and at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home Auxiliary Spending time with her family, traveling with the Moreau Community Center, taking trips all over the 50 states, tending her gardens, collecting bears, dolls and cows, were all very enjoyable to her. Elaine was an active woman, who will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, a brother, Edward Frey, also passed away before her. Survivors include her two daughters, Diane Smythe of Fort Edward and Lorelle Arpino and her husband, Carlo, of Dedham, Mass.; two grandchildren, Justin Arpino and Alyssa Arpino, both of Dedham, Mass.; a sister, Linda Melanson of Brockton, Mass.; several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins; and her dear friend, Bill Nolin of South Glens Falls. Vickery, Karen LAKE LUZERNE -- Karen Vickery, age 61, formerly of Traver Street, died Tuesday morning, March 22, 2005, at The Orchard Nursing Centre, Granville, following a long courageous battle with multiple sclerosis and cancer. Born on March 1, 1944, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Evelyn Lindstrand. She married George W. Vickery on Dec. 12, 1969. Mr. Vickery died on Oct. 29, 1998. Karen was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was always her main focus. She enjoyed music and was a fan of Elvis. She was known as "the Queen of Bingo" at the Orchard. She also enjoyed reading decorating magazines and collecting teddy bears. She was predeceased by one brother, Edward Lindstrand. Karen is survived by her four children: Amy Feulner of Corinth, Brian Vickery and his wife, Mary, of Lake Luzerne, April Bean and her husband, Richard, of South Glens Falls, and Jessica Fink and her husband, William, of Corinth; her four beloved granddaughters: Rachel, Alexandria, Ashley and Abigale; two sisters, Mary Smith of South Glens Falls and Kay Fuerst and her husband, Peter, of St. Louis, Mo.; one niece and several nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Brewer Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Church St., Lake Luzerne. Burial will be at Luzerne Cemetery, Lake Luzerne.
