CAMILLUS -- Joan M. Gilligan, 74, of Onondaga Hill, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center in Syracuse. Born in Montague, Mass., she lived in Corinth, and was an honors graduate of Corinth High School. She also lived at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio before moving to the Syracuse area in 1953. Joan attended Syracuse University and was a librarian for more than 30 years at Holy Family School and St. Charles Borromeo School, both in Syracuse. She was a communicant of St. Michael s Church on Onondaga Hill and a former communicant of both St. Charles Borromeo Church and Holy Family Church. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Stephen V. of Onondaga Hill; two sons, Kevin M. (Eileen) of LaFayette, N.Y. and Stephen (Elizabeth) of Onondaga Hill; grandchildren, Addie, Benjamin, Louis, Brendan and Moira; a sister, Louise Doherty of Corinth and several nieces and one nephew. She was predeceased by her sisters, Beverly and Connie. Services will be at conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Borromeo Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Burial will be at Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse. Holman, Robert Edward STEVENSVILLE, Pa. -- Robert Edward Holman, 60, of Stevensville, Pa., and formerly of Ticonderoga, died Saturday, March 19, 2005, at Towanda Memorial Hospital, Towanda, Pa., following a long illness. Born on Oct. 3, 1944, in Ticonderoga, he was the son of Vera (Crossman) Holman of Whitehall, and the late Robert Holman. Robert was an avid bingo and lottery player and enjoyed working on cars. Two infant sons, Leonard Steven Holman and Christopher Holman, three sisters, Barbara Dufault, Rose Hallock and Brenda Holman, and one brother, Lonnie Holman, predeceased him. Survivors besides his mother, include three daughters: Tammy Holman of Ticonderoga, Lisa Holman and Darlene Holman of Port Henry; one son, Robert Holman of Ticonderoga; one brother, Richard Holman and his wife, Debbie, of Whitehall, two sisters, Jackie Flack and her husband, Edward, of Ticonderoga, and Linda Stark of Ticonderoga. He is also survived by several grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Michael G. Angiolillo Funeral Home, 210 Broadway, Whitehall, with the Rev. C. Don Wheeler, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Whitehall, officiating Burial will take place at a later date at Mount Hope Cemetery, Ticonderoga. Published in the Post-Star from 3/22/2005 - 3/27/2005. Lally, Thelma Perkins SCHENECTADY -- Thelma Perkins Lally, of Ruffner Road, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at her home. Born on Nov. 16, 1912, in West Burlington, N.Y. (Otsego County), she was the daughter of Grover and Agatha Telfer Perkins. Thelma was a 1930 graduate of Hartwick High School and Cobleskill Agriculture and Technical School. She received her teaching degree from the Oneonta Normal School. She taught at the Patent School in the town of Burlington and the Waterville Central School. Thelma married Kenneth T. Lally on July 11, 1939. Thelma and Ken moved to Schenectady where Thelma taught at a "one-room" schoolhouse in Glenville, and in the Niskayuna School District. She was a dedicated teacher for more than 35 years and was greatly admired and respected by both her colleagues and her students. Thelma and Ken were very active throughout her life, supporting and providing leadership, service and financial support to a great many area educational and health care institutions and community service organizations. A partial list of organizations that have benefited from Thelma and Ken's interest and involvement includes: the Albany Catholic Diocese, Albany Medical Center, Catholic Central High School, College of Saint Rose, Ellis Hospital, Girls, Inc., Junior Museum of Troy, LaSalle School, Mohawk Pathways Girl Scouts, Northeast Parent and Child, Proctor's Theatre, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Samaritan Hospital, Siena College, Schenectady County Community College, St. Clare's Hospital, St. Helen's Parish, Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital, Union College and the YMCA. As a tribute to their longtime devotion to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, RPI named its Graduate Business School the Kenneth T. and Thelma P. Lally School of Management and Technology. Thelma and her husband received the "Philanthropists of the Year" award for their support of charities in the Capital Region from the National Society of Fundraising Executives in 1994, and in 1999 they were honored with the Citizen Laureate Award from the University at Albany Foundation. Thelma was recognized for her passion for education and teaching excellence by the College of Saint Rose, which conferred upon her the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters in 1999. In recognition of Thelma's support of the college and funding provided by she and Ken, Saint Rose named its new signature building the Thelma P. Lally School of Education in 2003. Thelma also served as an officer, director and trustee of numerous other educational and community organizations. Mrs. Lally is survived by her devoted husband of more than 65 years, Kenneth T. Lally; her sister, Diana Marlette; a sister-in-law, Mary Lally; her brothers-in-law and their wives, John and Dorothy Lally, and Robert and Colleen Lally; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Hilda Tamas, a sister-in-law, Helen Fischer; and three brothers-in-law, Joseph Tamas, Howard Marlette and Howard Lally. Mrs. Lally's family is very grateful to the nurses who have provided such loving care to Thelma for the past several years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, at St. John the Evangelist Church on Union Street in Schenectady. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 28, at Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union Street at McClellan Street, Schenectady. Burial will be at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Waterville at a later date. Lemaire, 78, of Veterans Road, Ticonderoga, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at Fletcher Allen Health Care Center of Burlington, Vt. Born in Calunet Island, Canada, Oct.r 7, 1926, he was the son of the late Prospere and Daleda M. (Tourangeau) Lemaire. Mr. Lemaire was a resident of Ticonderoga for many years. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Perrini Construction Co. of Canada for many years. Mr. Lemaire was also a self-employed logger, working for Joe White and various other logging companies. He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian E. Lemaire on Oct. 26, 2001. Survivors include one daughter, Dawn Narbon of Clifton Park; two sisters, Albertine Henri of Gatineau, Quebec and Jeanne D'Arc Lagace of Elliott Lake, Ontario; and three brothers, Geff Lemaire of Armstrong, British Columbia, Albert Lemaire of Chelmsford, Ontario, and Vaudreuil Lemaire of Quebec. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, April 2, at 1 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga, with the Rev. William G. Muench, pastor, officiating. Speck Sr., Charles L. CLIFTON PARK -- Charles L. Speck Sr., 71, of Clifton Park, completed his journey on earth Wednesday, March 23, 2005. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Harry and Gertrude Speck. Mr. Speck was a member of Company A, Third Infantry Regiment in the United States Army, having served as a member of the elite Honor Guard, stationed in Washington, D.C. from 1953 to 1955. His career as an automotive parts salesman spanned from 1962 until the present. The wondrous joys of his life were his children and grandchildren and his loss is immeasurable to all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Speck; three sons, Kevin C. Speck and his wife, Kathy, Charles L. Speck Jr. and his fiance‚, Faith Lane, and Glenn D. Speck. He was also the proud and loving grandfather of Christopher Speck and his wife, Jennifer, Brittany Speck, Kyle Speck, Courtney Speck, Adam Speck, Austin Lane and Morgan Lane. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family., Interment will be at Gerald B. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville. Published in the Post-Star on 3/25/2005. Sutton, Duane C. LONG LAKE and PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- Duane C. Sutton was born Feb. 16, 1928, to Dewitt C. and Angeline (Duane) Sutton of Long Lake, N.Y. He knocked and God answered on Tuesday, March 22, 2005. A veteran on World War II, Duane joined the U.S. Navy and was aboard the USS Springfield; the first ship to steam into Sagami Wan with the occupational forces for the surrender of the Japanese Empire. She was the first cruiser to anchor in Japanese homeland waters. Duane lived to drive truck. He drove for many years with his friend, Ronnie Smith, of Phoenix, N.Y. He loved to tell stories of his truck driving and log hauling days and was always handy with a joke to tell. He owned and operated DC Sutton & Son Trucking and Sutton Lumber & Contracting. He drove school bus for Long Lake Central School for 10 years. He worked for the town of Long Lake Highway Department, retiring in 1992. Duane was a life member of the American Legion Post 650 Long Lake, past president of the Long Lake Lions Club, Fire Commissioner for 20 years; exempt volunteer fireman and rescue squad member; a member of AmVet Post 16 and 6180 VFW, Port Richey, Fla; PBOE No. 22266520 Elks, Hudson, Fla; and Fraternal Order Eagle No. 44208, Hudson, Fla. Along with his parents, Duane was predeceased by two half brothers, William D. Sutton and Charles H. Farr, and his nephew, David Farr. Duane will be missed by his wife, Elizabeth, of Port Richey Fla.; his four daughters: Donna (Glenn) Sutton/Fay of South Hero, Vt, Cynthia (Paul) Garvey of Tupper Lake, Roberta (Dan) McKinney of Clifton Park, and Patricia (Joe) Tokarz of Long Lake; his grandchildren: Addison and Lily Fay, Samantha Burnett and Cameron Garvey, Cory, Brian and Sarah McKinney, Devin, Branden and Laura Tokarz; a cousin, Cecila Godin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Duane had many special friends including Ronnie Smith, Bob Cusson, Bob Dechene and Buck Stanton. A memorial service in Duane's honor will be held May 7, 2005 at St. Henry's Parish Hall, Long Lake, N.Y. Published in the Post-Star on 3/25/2005. Whitty, Brent Bevins TICONDEROGA -- Brent Bevins Whitty, 54, of the Portage, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2005, in Burlington, Vt. Born in Ticonderoga, July 11, 1950, he was the son of James R. and Shirley (Spring) Whitty of Ticonderoga. Mr. Whitty was a lifetime resident of Crown Point and Ticonderoga, and was a member of the Crown Point Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Crown Point High School, Class of 1968. During high school, he was a member of the school band. Also, as a youth, he participated in Boy Scouts and Little League. Mr. Whitty was employed by the International Paper Co. of Ticonderoga for 36 years and was a member of the Company's Quarter Century Club. He was also a professional photographer. He was an avid hunter and a member of the N.R.A. He was also a motorcycle enthusiast and at one time toured Russia. He also toured Ireland with his family on the International Whitty Clan Reunion. Survivors in addition to his parents, James R. and Shirley Whitty of Ticonderoga, include two sisters, Stephanie Haas and her husband, Joseph, of Frankford, Del., and Melissa Brand and her husband, the Rev. James Brand, of Canton; and one brother, Craig Whitty and his wife, Vickie, of Findlay, Ohio. He is also survived by his close friend, Gail Gebo of Ticonderoga; and many aunts, uncles,cousins, nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. James Brand, brother-in-law of Brent and pastor of the Canton Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will take place at a later date at the family plot of the Union Cemetery of Moriah.
