SOUTH GLENS FALLS -- Patrick J. Doyle Jr., 53, of Pine Road, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2005, at his home, under the care of his family and Community Hospice of Saratoga. Born on July 5, 1951, in Glens Falls, he was the son of Barbara (Monahan) Doyle Wagner and Patrick J. Doyle Sr. P. J. was a graduate of South Glens Falls High School and attended Hudson Valley Community College. He was active in many community service organizations including: the South Glens Falls Volunteer Fire Co. where he was secretary and treasurer; the Moreau Emergency Squad where he was a captain and an EMT a CPR and EMT instructor; a Little League coach; a Cub Scout leader; and a dedicated worker for the South High Marathon Dance. P. J. was also a member of the South Glens Falls Board of Education for 18 years. He served on the Board of Directors at the Glens Falls Hospital and was Executive Director of the Moreau Community Center and the Glens Falls Independent Living Center. P. J. enjoyed camping, fishing, spending time with his family, but most of all he lived for his sons and beloved sweetheart, Sara McKay. He was predeceased by one son, Matthew Mark Doyle, and his maternal grandmother, Esther Monahan. Survivors include his parents, Barbara Wagner and her husband, Carl, of Saratoga Springs and Patrick J. Doyle Sr. of South Glens Falls; three sons, Michael Doyle and his wife, Sarah, of Fort Bragg, N.C., Mark Doyle and his wife, Ali, of the Island of Dominica, and Patrick J. Doyle III of South Glens Falls and their mother, Jacquelyn Doyle, of Saratoga Springs; two sisters, Carolyn Sprow and her husband, Francis, of Hannawa Falls and Mary Beth Cutter of Glens Falls; four nieces, Laura Sprow, Cheryl Shufflebotham, Carrie Loya and Ashley Yarter; two nephews, Frank Barrett and Chad Yarter; his girlfriend, Sara McKay and her children, Brittany and Cody Boomhower of South Glens Falls; and his aunts, uncles and cousins. Calling hours will be from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday at Carleton Funeral home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls. A brief memorial service for family and close friends will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. P. J. had suggested memorials in the form of contributions to the P.J. Frazier, 87, of Latham, beloved husband of the late Cecilia A. Dolan Frazier, died Monday, March 28, 2005, at his residence. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late James F. and Etta Minkler Frazier. He was a staff sergeant in the United States Army during World War II and the recipient of the Bronze Star. He was the president of Vandecar-Harmon Inc. in Albany for more than 19 years and retired in 1981. He was charter member No. 52 of the Colonie Elks Lodge No. 2192 and a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 192 in Cohoes. Jim was a member of the Watervliet VFW Post 729 and the seventh armored division association. Survivors include his loving children, James W. (Debi) Frazier of St. Joseph, Mo., Margaret E. (Jens Peter) Sorensen of Saranac Lake and Cecilia E. (Gary) Clair of Schenectady; he is also survived by 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services with military honors will be Thursday, March 31, 2005, at 9:15 a.m. from the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham, and at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Hughes Jr., 80, of Spruce Court, passed away Easter Sunday evening, March 27, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital following a long illness. Born May 26, 1924, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Rowland W. and Lena (Smith) Hughes Sr. Mr. Hughes graduated from South Glens Falls High School, Class of 1943, after completing only 3 1/2 years of high school. Rowland married Marie Wynne-Roberts on June 17, 1950, in Glens Falls. In February 1943, he then entered the Pre-Meteorological Program at Bowdoin College of the Army Air Force weather service and was stationed there for a year, later moving on to other bases during his 36 months in the weather service, being honorably discharged February 1946 from Westover Field, Springfield, Mass. Furthering his education, he attended Skidmore College, graduating with the class of 1950 with a major in physics. This, too, he completed in only 3-1/2 years. In 1957, he joined Kamyr Inc. of Glens Falls, and was their purchasing agent for nearly 30 years of dedicated service, working with people from all over the world, retiring in 1986. Rowland was a 49-year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls, serving two terms as Deacon, an Elder for many years, and over 45 years as usher in the church. For several years, he was a member of the Membership Committee. He had often said many of his happiest times were spent working with so many wonderful people in the church. Many of his closest friends were made in church-related activities over the past 50 years. His hobbies included oil painting, photography, listening to classical music including opera, the piano, and was always reading and learning many various fields. Above all, he was a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather, and who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Marie Hughes of Queensbury; one son, the Rev. David Hughes and his wife, Deborah, of Springfield, Mass.; two grandchildren, Miranda and Adam Hughes also of Massachusetts; several cousins; and his two precious little Shih Tzus, Kelsey and Oliver. A Memorial service, to celebrate Rowland's life, will be held Thursday, March 31, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls, Glen Street, with the Rev. John Barclay, pastor, officiating. There will be a reception in the Pruyn Room at the church following the service, for the family to greet friends and associates. LaRose, Stella P. HUDSON FALLS -- Stella P. LaRose, 67, a lifelong resident of Hudson Falls, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Born on Oct. 11, 1937, in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late James and Sparango (Poolos) Poulos. In 1955, she gradated from Hudson Falls High School, which was the last class to graduate from the old high school. She continued her education at Mildred Elley School in Albany. Stella worked as a legal secretary for the law firm Willard White and his son, David White, and later at the Law Offices of William A. Bacas, all located at one time in Glens Falls. For many years, Stella was employed at the Warren County Veterans Administration, retiring in 2001. Many people would remember her as their waitress on Sunday mornings at Steve's Place in Queensbury. Stella was very active in Boy Scout Troop No. 156 of Hudson Falls, where she was secretary and treasurer. Every year, Stella held an anniversary party at her home on Gibson Avenue for all the Boy Scouts and their parents. Stella was also very active with the Boy Scout fund-raising, which included working at the Sandy Hill Days booth and the bottle drive. Stella was currently in the Hudson Falls class reunion committee for their upcoming 50-year reunion. At one time, she was in a commercial with her mother, which ran nationally coast to coast for American General Insurance Group. Stella loved playing cards with her friends, Gert and Janet, and going to bingo. She enjoyed watching red cardinal birds and tending to her beautiful flower gardens. Stella was a very proud Greek, who loved cooking Greek foods and pastries for her family and friends. She was a strong, independent woman who never hesitated telling people what she thought. Besides her parents, Stella was predeceased by an infant son, James P. LaRose, who passed away in 1973, her nephew, Peter J. Poulos, and her aunt, Nika Prokos. Survivors include her son, Michael J. LaRose and his special friend, Billie Jo Greene, of Hudson Falls; her two brothers, Tony J. Poulos of Queensbury and Michael J. Poulos and his wife, Mary Kay, of Houston, Texas; her aunt, Antonia Vamvalis of Queensbury; her niece, Denise V. Poulos of Houston, Texas; her stepniece, Julie A. Brown of Queensbury; her great-nieces and great- nephews, Michael J. Poulos II, Megan Poulos, Taylor Poulos and Petra Poulos; and several cousins. Friends may call on Wednesday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls. The Very Rev. Elias Nasr of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church will officiate the Trisagion Prayers for the Departed at 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home. The Hudson Falls Fire Department and Support Group will meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening, at the funeral home, to pay their respects. The Boy Scout Troop No. 156 will stand honor guard at Stella's casket and at 7 p.m. will hold prayers. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., with Father Panagiotis E. Papanikolaou of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Schenectady, officiating. Burial will be later in the spring at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward. Nacy, 90, a longtime resident of Glens Falls, and most recently of Eden Park Health Care Facility, entered into her eternal reward on Monday, March 28, 2005, following a brief illness, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born May 10, 1914, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Chester B. and Rose (Guyette) Robbins. Mae was a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School and the Eastman School of Business. She also studied at the Albany Hospital School of Nursing, at Seton Hall University in New Jersey, Barot College in Chicago and Dialog House in New York City. Mrs. Nacy enjoyed learning and continued to attend many educational seminars throughout her life. On Nov. 20, 1941, Mae married Thomas M. Nacy, of Victory Mills, N.Y., at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Saratoga Springs. Her husband predeceased her, on June 27, 2004, after 62 years of marriage. For several years, Mae had worked as purchasing agent for Skidmore College and also as executive secretary for Christian Education, in the Albany Diocese. She was a communicant of St. Alphonsus Church, a member of the Secular Order of Franciscans, the Greater Glens Falls Senior Citizens, Alzheimer's Disease Association, the Arthritis Foundation and the S.O.W.N. Her other interests included gardening, reading, visiting with her many friends and watching her grandchildren grow and succeed in their own lives. Mae is survived by her son, Charles T. Nacy, his wife, Sally A. McGuirk, and their daughter, Marissa, of Queensbury; her sister, Teresa Samuels and her husband, Donald, of Rockport, Texas; granddaughter, Alicia A. Hinds, her husband, Joseph, and twin daughters, Colleen and Elizabeth, of Fairfield, Conn., granddaughter, Karolyn M. Savoie, her husband, Ronald, their daughter, Camryn, and their son, Riley John, of Gloversville, grandson Richard C. Nacy of Latham; her sister-in-law, Marcella Barrett of Schuylerville; her niece, Joann Eustis and her husband, James, of Victory Mills; nephews, David Samuels and Donald J. Samuels Jr.; and nieces, Gerrie Brown and Teresa Sanchez. In keeping with Mae's wishes, there will be no viewing hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at St. Alphonsus Church in Glens Falls, with the Rev. James Mackey, pastor of St. Mary's Church in Glens Falls, officiating. Interment will be next to her husband at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in the town of Stillwater at a date and time to be determined by the family. Published in the Post-Star on 3/30/2005. Shipman, Richard C. Bolton Landing -- Richard C. Shipman, 71, of Bolton Landing, died Sunday, March 27, 2005, at the home of his daughter in Saratoga Springs. Born in Utica, N.Y. on Oct. 13, 1933, he was the son of the late Charles C. Shipman and Dora (Dashner) Shipman. Richard was a graduate of Cohoes High School. He served in the U.S. Army where he was awarded the Good Conduct and National Defense Service Medals. Richard was married to Barbara (Turpin) Shipman on May 6, 1956, and enjoyed more than 48 years of marriage. He attended Hudson Valley Community College and was a licensed Master Electrician and General Contractor, operating his own business for many years. He later joined the Electrical Union Local 438 until he retired in 1996. Richard was a very active member of the Citizen's Party in Cohoes, N.Y., where he resided until his retirement. He enjoyed time spent with family and friends and vacationed in Myrtle Beach, S.C. during the winter months. Richard enjoyed renovation projects at his summer/retirement home in Bolton Landing and could always be counted on to help a friend or neighbor in need. He was an avid reader of history, had an excellent memory and took great pleasure in the daily crossword puzzle, games of trivia, and pinochle games with friends. In addition to his parents, his sister, Jane (Shipman) Slater, and nephew, Charles Slater, predeceased him. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Barbara (Turpin) Shipman, and his three precious daughters of whom he was very proud, Kathleen M. Koblensky and her husband, Edward Koblensky, of Cohoes, Patricia A. Salvarezza and her husband, Anthony T. Salvarezza, of Queensbury, and Lynda M. Shipman of Saratoga Springs; his grandchildren, Laura Szandyba, Jenna Koblensky, and Richard Salvarezza; his niece, Susan Giunta; his brother-in-law, Robert Turpin. He will be missed by each and every one.
