WINCHESTER, Va. -- Bernard F. Derenthal of Luzerne Road, Lake George, died suddenly while vacationing with his family in Virginia on March 28, 2005. He was 83. Born on April 18, 1921, in Middletown, Conn., he was the son of the late August Frederick Derenthal and Sophia Elizabeth Derenthal. Mr. Derenthal served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post 1095 in Schenectady. Bernard worked for many years as a pipe fitter for the General Electric Co. in Schenectady NY for more than 30 years. He was also a Pinkerton security guard at the Saratoga Race Course for the past three years. He married his wife, Barbara A. Derenthal, on Sept. 14, 1990. Bernard was an avid outdoorsman and loved to travel the country. He was a member and a troop leader of the Boy Scouts Troop 15 in Schenectady. Mr. Derenthal is survived by his wife, Barbara; three sons: Mark Derenthal and Victor Derenthal of Ann Harbor Mich., and Glenn L. Derenthal of Las Vegas, Nev.; an uncle, Charles Delong of Long Island, many grandchildren; stepgrandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be held at 8 p.m. today at Tunison Funeral Home, 105 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs. Friends and family may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 prior to the services. Burial will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville. Published in the Post-Star on 3/31/2005. LaPell, William C. "Willie" NORTH CREEK -- William C. "Willie" LaPell, 44, of Fairview Avenue, passed away Tuesday evening, March 29, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital following a long illness. Born March 28, 1961, in Glens Falls, he was the son of John and Elizabeth "Betsy" (Andrus) LaPell of North Creek. Willie was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Johnsburg Central High School. Over the years Willie worked at the Sagamore Resort in Bolton Landing, the Copperfield Inn and Smith's Restaurant in North Creek and for the last 10 year he worked for the Johnsburg Park and Recreation Department. His favorite pastimes included: bowling, dancing, stock car racing and family genealogy. Besides his grandparents, his uncles, Jim LaPell and Jim Andrus, have also died recently. Besides his parents, he is survived by his aunt, Jean Clune of South Glens Falls; two uncles, Edward LaPell of North Creek and Harold Andrus of El Paso, Texas; and several cousins. There are no calling hours scheduled. Graveside services will take place at the Bates Cemetery in Johnsburg later in the spring. Rock, Emily Peasley TICONDEROGA -- Emily Peasley Rock, 77, of Park Avenue, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at Moses-Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Ticonderoga, Sept. 16, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Bertha (Guiles) Peasley. Mrs. Rock was a lifelong Ticonderoga resident and a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. She was employed by J.J. Newberry's Department Store of Ticonderoga as luncheonette manager for 26 years before her retirement in 1985. Mrs. Rock was predeceased by her husband, Charles J. Rock, on March 29, 2000; a brother, Richard Peasley; and a sister, Regina Bechard. Survivors include two sisters, her twin, Evelyn L. Crammond of Ticonderoga and Edna Gratton of Halfmoon; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St, Ticonderoga. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. William G. Muench, pastor, will officiate.
