Born on Sept. 29, 1947, at Glens Falls Hospital, she was the daughter of Patrick and Constance (Barney) DePalo of Hudson Falls. She was employed as a supervising nurse at Prestwick Chase in Saratoga, until her illness. Diane was a loving, compassionate, and caring person who took great pride in the care of her patients. Her greatest enjoyment was watching her sons sporting events and seeing them achieve their academic goals. She was the loving mother of two sons, Christopher and Michael Dolen, both of Scotia. Beside her parents, other survivors include her five sisters: Susan DePalo of Hudson Falls, Connie Steele of Hudson Falls, Mary Joan Baggot and her husband, Richard, of Ohio, Barbara Comstock and her husband, Keith, of Hudson Falls and Patricia DePalo of California; her nieces and nephew: Amy and Allison Steele, Angela and Rachel Baggot, Kaitlin and Kenneth Comstock; and her many cousins. She is also survived by her devoted dog, Dharma. Her family would like to thank Dr. Susan Weaver and all her caregivers who provided loving care and support at home. Friends may call on Saturday, May 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls. Funeral services will follow at the Carleton Funeral Home on Saturday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Wendell Williams Jr., pastor of the Good Ground Family Church in Cohoes, officiating. Published in the Post-Star from 5/2/2005 - 5/6/2005. Dunlavey, Sophia A. QUEENSBURY -- Sophia A. Dunlavey, 81, of Queensbury, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born on Oct. 23, 1923, in Perth, N.Y., she was the daughter of Michael and Sophia Slavas. Sophie worked at General Electric for 30 years. She loved to read and listen to the radio. She enjoyed her family, especially being with her grandchildren. Survivors include one daughter, Laurie Weeks and her husband, Donald, of Queensbury; one son, John Dunlavey and his wife, Maryann, of Burke; six grandchildren: Bethany Jones, Marc Weeks, Jenine Weeks, Brandon, Austin, and Jonathan Dunlavey; one great-grandchild, Koda Jones; two sisters, Della Kelly and Alice Jaracz, both of Amsterdam; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., on Friday, May 6, at Our Lady of Annunciation Church, Aviation Road, Queensbury. Burial will follow at Pine View Cemetery, Queensbury. At Sophie's request, no calling hours are scheduled. Arrangements are being handled by Singleton-Healy Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road, Queensbury. Published in the Post-Star on 5/5/2005. Esser, Irene L. HUDSON FALLS -- Irene L. Esser, a resident of Manlee Avenue, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at her home. Born in Saranac Lake, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Mabel (Napper) Lobdell. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Frank, who died in 1992, and a son, Frank Robert Esser Jr., who died in 1965. Survivors include her granddaughter, Zoe White and her husband, Bruce, of Argyle; her great-grandchildren: Audrey Wood and her husband, Michael, of Argyle, Elizabeth McQueen and her husband, William, of Greenwich, Matthew White and his wife, Melody, of Argyle, and Emily White of Argyle; and her great-great-grandchildren, Noah and Ethan White and Gabe Wood, all of Argyle; two sisters, Patricia and Vesta; one sister-in-law, Mildred; and several nieces and nephews. Hitchcock, 80, of Garnet Lake Road, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at the Adirondack Tri-County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in North Creek following a long illness. Born Dean Ellison Oliver, the son of the late George Oliver and Cora (Rice) Oliver (Ursoy) on Feb. 6, 1925, in Ceres, N.Y., Dean was raised by the Rev.'s Lionel and Josephine (Curtis) Hitchcock in Bakers Mills. He graduated from the North Creek High School in 1943, and entered the U.S. Army-Air Force in August of that year. He served in Amarillo, Texas and was honorably discharged in October of 1945. Dean retired from Barton Mines Corp. in 1980, after 30 years of service. At the time of his retirement he served as an electrician for Barton's. As a young man Dean worked for various loggers, including Red Reynolds and Everett Frulla. Dean was also a skilled carpenter and licensed electrician and worked as an independent contractor both during his employment and after retirement. He passed his skills on to his sons and daughters. He loved being with his family. He was an avid bowler, hunter, and fisherman. Over the years he enjoyed many fishing trips to The Fish Ponds, Kibby Pond, and especially to Siamese Ponds. He taught all of his children to fish and hunt and to enjoy the outdoors. In his younger days Dean played baseball in the local men's summer league and enjoyed skiing, swimming, playing cards, and maple sugaring. In the later years he became a sports fan and liked watching them on TV. He also liked scratching lottery tickets. Dean shared genealogy interests with his children and was able to attend family reunions where he met many new found family members. In February of this year, Dean was given a surprise birthday party by his children. His daughter, Joelene and her musician friends played music and he got to hear his granddaughter, Michelle and grandson, Shawn sing and play. He really had a great time and was able to be with his family and visit with old friends. Besides his parents and foster parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Henry Keith Oliver. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Charlene (Fuller) Hitchcock of Johnsburg; his children, Terry Hitchcock and his wife, Donna, of East Sandwich, Mass., Deana Baker and her companion, Matt Wood, of Wevertown, Joelene Slater and Gig, of Wevertown, Tracy Bateman of Johnsburg, Randy Hitchcock and his wife, Christine, of Wevertown, Eric Hitchcock of Johnsburg; four grandsons, seven granddaughters, six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Reba Oliver of Barneveld, Francina Smith and her husband, Mark, of Gerry, Betty Broadwell and her husband, Hank, of Oswego; his former wife and friend, Muriel La Pointe of Wevertown; and many special nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was born July 25, 1915, in Londonderry, N.H. Grace was the beloved wife of the late William. She was the loving mother of Susan K. Moss (James), and Mary Ellen Maher (John); grandmother of John and Megan Maher; sister of Doris Chadwick, Charles, and the late Wallace. Kvinlaug, Daniel Allen CAMBRIDGE -- Daniel Allen Kvinlaug, 38, a resident of White Birch Lane, Town of Jackson, died Wednesday, May 5, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital after a long illness. Born Aug. 26, 1966, in Cambridge, he was the son of Bert Kvinlaug of Arizona and Lorretta Kvinlaug of Shushan. Daniel was employed by Path Truck Lines, and worked at the Fort Miller Co. in Greenwich. His enjoyments were deer hunting, motorcycling, cooking, and aggravating his wife. In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Michele Corlew Kvinlaug of Cambridge; his son and only child, Dustin, who he loved very much; one brother, Doug Kvinlaug of Cambridge; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Friday, May 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich. Lynch, Kathryn "Kay" (Carroll) DELMAR -- Kathryn "Kay" (Carroll) Lynch, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at Delmar Place, Delmar, where she had resided since January 2005. Prior to that she had lived in Menands for the last 35 years. Kay was a lifelong resident of the Albany area. She was the wife of the late Bernard J. Lynch and daughter of the late Thomas and Kathryn Carroll of Troy. She was a graduate of Catholic Central High School and the College of St. Rose. Prior to her marriage she was employed at General Electric, Schenectady. Kay was an avid golfer and bridge layer and a member of Wolfert's Roost Country Club for almost 50 years. She is survived by her daughters, Christina Roberts and her husband, Hugh, of Albany and Bolton Landing; Veronica Lynch of Albany and her children, Kerry of Boston, Mass. and Matthew of Rochester; and Sharon Fenno and her husband, Mark of Delmar; and her sister-in-law, Mary Lynch. A grandson, Hugh D. Roberts Jr. died before her. The family would like to thank the Klersy family and their staff at Delmar Place, the Hospice staff and the staff at St. Peter's ALS Center. Potenza, Jeanne McNeive GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. -- Jeanne McNeive Potenza, 85, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at the Prestige, in Green Valley, Ariz. following a long illness. Born March 23, 1920, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Mildred and Michael McNeive. Mrs. Potenza was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy, Class of 1939. She and her husband, Michael, resided in New York City, where both worked in the hotel business until they retired to Green Valley, Ariz. Mrs. Potenza retired as reservations manager for Intercontinental Hotels. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by several aunts, uncles and cousins. Saladin, 88, of Rock Avenue, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 2, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born on Nov. 25, 1916, in Truthville, she was the daughter of the late Clifton and Alice (Huntley) Saladin. She attended Whitehall High School, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Whitehall and a former member of the Whitehall Volunteer Fireman's Auxiliary. Laura was predeceased by her husband, Raymond B. Saladin, who passed away in 2000, and a sister, Helen Denno. She is survived by her three children: Phyllis Smith and her husband, Jack, of Ramsey, N.J., Raymond E. Saladin and his wife, Carole, of Fort Edward and Beverly Wanmer and her husband, David, of Scotia; grandchildren: Susan Van Hovel, Todd Smith, David Saladin and his wife, Kim, Jennifer Saladin Perry, Dan Andrews, Kim Andrews, David C. Wanmer and Kim Semon and her husband, Angelo; great-grandchildren: Natasha Rai Perry, Melissa Susan Van Hovel, Sarah Rose Van Hovel, Vincent James Van Hovel and Morgan Marie Wanmer; two sisters, Marion Donaldson of Whitehall and Katherine Tucker of Schenectady; a very special niece, Laurie Donaldson of Whitehall; and several other nieces and nephews. "Red" Severance, 77, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital after a short illness. Born on July 19, 1927 in Middlebury, Vt., she was the daughter of Clayton and Kathleen (O'Connor) Shores. She became a New York resident over 50 years ago. Evelyn led a very active life that included activities such as snowmobiling, ultra lite flying, hiking and working daily. She loved spending time and helping her fellow "seniors." Evelyn displayed a great zest for life and her vitality effected everyone around her including her family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Robert Shores of Corinth. She leaves behind a loving family that includes her daughters, Janet Pecue and her husband, Ray, of Mobile, Ala., Diana Furnia of Glens Falls and Lynne Duffany and her husband, David, of South Glens Falls; her sons, Roderick Severance and his wife, Debbie, of Queensbury, Robert Severance and his companion, Judy, of Dover Plains, N.Y. and Michael Seeley of Queensbury; her brother, Clayton Shores of Bristol, Vt.; her sister, Joanne Desjadon of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren: Stacey Johnson, Crystal Reynolds, Raymond Pecue, John Severance, Jeremy Furnia, Jamie Furnia, Katie Severance, David Duffany Jr., Michael Duffany and Alyssa Duffany, 11 great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
