ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. -- Nancy L. Barrisford, a former Glens Falls resident, has been promoted as of Tuesday, March 22, 2005, to continue her work with her Lord at his side, after a long illness. She leaves behind to continue their duties here on earth... her husband of 44 years, Milton D. Barrisford of Elizabethton, Tenn.; three sons, Donald of Queensbury, David of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Daniel of Elizabethton, Tenn.; two daughters, Catherine of Tupper Lake, and Cynthia of Greensboro, N.C.; a sister, Sharon of Arizona; a brother, Edmond of Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren, Robert and April Barrisford of Queensbury, Deidre and Alex Blanchard of Greensboro, N.C., Naithen Lovette of Peru, N.Y., Nichole, Cruise, and Levi of Queensbury. Nancy was born on Dec. 30, 1942, in Syracuse, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Alice Mentry and Leon Lafontaine. She attended schools in Baltimore, Md., Queensbury, and Watertown, N.Y. Although Nancy was employed a short time with D'Embrozios Textile and Prospect School, her main interest was to help others. Nancy volunteered thousands of hours working in Alcoholics Anonymous of Yuma, Ariz., St. Vincent DePaul, Glens Falls and retreat program at St. Alphonsus of Glens Falls, and the I.H.N. program of Johnson City, Tenn. Even with her busy schedule she enjoyed sitting beside a stream or lake reading a book. Nancy also enjoyed being a member of Adirondack Riders Motorcycle Club and helping with Americade of Lake George. A service in her honor is to be scheduled in Glens Falls at a later date. Brayton, Jerry W. QUEENSBURY -- Jerry W. Brayton, 71, of Needle Park Circle, went into the arms of the Lord, surrounded by his loving family and friends, on Thursday, May 5, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born on March 30, 1934, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Iselin and Dorothy (Carter) Brayton. Jerry was a graduate of Lake George High School. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. On May 26, 1985, he married Lynn Feron at Crandall Park in Glens Falls. In his early years, he built houses with his father locally, and then with Northern Homes. He also worked as a millwright for several years at NIBCO and then NAMIC until retirement in 1997. He was born and raised in the Lake George area. Jerry enjoyed being with his wife, children and grandchildren and going on country rides. His favorite hobby, since the age of 10, was building radio-controlled airplanes. He also enjoyed golf and Ebay. Survivors include his wife of nearly 20 years, Lynn Feron Brayton of Queensbury; his children, Jody Stables of Unadilla, N.Y., Christi Turcotte and her husband, Mike, of Corinth, Jerry Lee Brayton and his wife, Debra, of Vadnais Heights, Minn., Terry Brayton and his wife, Nanette, of Queensbury, Misti Gilbert and her husband, Mark, of Sharpsburg, Ga., Kimberly Tully Heym and her husband, Tim, of Glens Falls and Katrina Tully McFadden and her husband, Drew, of Potsdam; his former wife and friend, Patricia Wescott Brayton of Queensbury; his grandchildren, Tyler Stables, Sara, Kari and Theresa Turcotte, Lynette Post, Jeremy and Ashley Brayton, Christopher and Andrea Woods, Savannah and Isabel Brayton, Mallory and Marissa Gilbert, Joshua, Jayden and Jensyn Heym, Andrew McFadden, MacKenzie Tully, Rian, Alexandra and Eliana McFadden; one brother, Paul Brayton and his wife, Ruth, of Saratoga Springs; three sisters, Wanda Lombardi and her husband, Joseph, of Warren, Ohio, Norma Baertschi and her husband, Ed, of Assembly Point, and Cheryl Lamparella and her husband, Paul, of Rochester; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and as well as many dear friends. Published in the Post-Star from 5/7/2005 - 5/8/2005. Carey, Monika M. LAKE GEORGE and TICONDEROGA -- Monika M. Carey, 72, passed away Friday, May 6, 2005, at the Glens Falls Hospital. Born Jan. 29, 1933, in Poznan, Poland, she was the daughter of Paul and Maria Janke. Mrs. Carey was predeceased by her first husband, Andrzej Bengsz Sr., of Poland. She moved to the United States in 1974, where she married James Carey of Ticonderoga. Mrs. Carey was employed by International Paper Co. of Ticonderoga until her retirement. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling, and most especially spending time with her family. Besides her first husband, Mrs. Carey was also predeceased by her second husband, James Carey. Survivors include one son, Andrzej Bengsz and his wife, Margaret Bengsz, of Lake George; three grandchildren, Joanna Bengsz, Karina Bengsz, and Derrick Bengsz of Lake George; and several relatives of Poland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 50 Mohican St., Lake George with the Rev. Bernard R. Turner, pastor, officiating. A Rite of Committal will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Birch Ave., Lake George. No public calling hours are scheduled. "Bompi' Miller, went peacefully into the arms of the Lord on May 6, 2005. He was born at Glens Falls Hospital on May 4, 1934, to the late John and Emeline (Vallantine) Miller. Sterling married his sweetheart Rosemary E. Monahan on Feb. 20, 1954. Sterling led a very active and fulfilled life. He served his country in the U.S. Army, being a veteran of the Korean Conflict. A highlight of his life was receiving his high school diploma June 2002. In recent years he worked as an advocate to ensure that other veterans of World War II and the Korean Conflict unable to complete school would receive their high school diplomas. Sterling was a member of the American Legion Post 574 in Hudson Falls and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2475 of Glens Falls. Sterling was employed with the Sheet Metal Workers Union No. 83 for 37 years. In addition to working and spending time with his large family, he was President of Hartford School Board, Hartford Town Constable, a member of the Hartford Volunteer Fire Police, President Hartford Volunteer Fire Company, Hartford Historical Group and an Alumnus of Hartford Central School. Yet, he found time to volunteer with the Pack 40 Cub Scouts and at Teen Canteen Monthly dances at the Fish & Game and Hartford Grange. During his retirement, he was Republican Committee Town Chairman of Hartford, and Activity Director of the Hartford Senior Citizens, and did volunteer work at RSVP, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Glens Falls, Bridging The Years mentoring program, and Extra Helpings. Sterling will be mourned by the community he so generously served. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting. Sterling's grandchildren were the light of his life. He delighted in regularly trying to beat them at cards and other games, fishing with them, cheering them on at sports, and attending their recitals and other activities. Sterling was predeceased by his parents; one sister, Mazie; four brothers, Alvin, John, Therian and Glenn. Sterling is survived by his loving wife Rosemary Miller of 51 years; four daughters, Christine Kloss and her fiancé, Ralph Shattuck, of Hartford, Gail Bogart and her husband, Mike, of Granville; Laura Robbins and her husband, Joel, of Glens Falls; Jennifer Rentas and her husband, Eric, of Hartford; three sons, S. Paul Miller and his wife, Mary, of Granville, Robert Miller and his wife, Susan, of Hartford; Mark Miller and his wife, Dale, of Hartford; sixteen grandchildren, Darcy and Jason Kloss, Michael, Kristina, Troy and Marissa Miller; Sean and Brad Miller; Janine Wilson, Jeremy and Melissa Miller, and Lindsay Fisher; Tiffany and Kyle Bogart; Danika and Alexis Robbins; Two great-grandchildren, Joshua Wilson Jr., and Jasmine Miller; one sister, Joyce Leombruno; six sisters-in-law; Barbara Miller, Rosemary M. Ross, 91, formerly of Attleboro, Mass., died peacefully on Thursday, May 5, 2005, at "Just Like Home" in Hudson Falls. Mr. Ross was born on Dec. 13, 1913, in West Rutland, Vt. He attended the Whitehall Public Schools, graduating in 1931. He then went to Green Mountain College, for two years, where he received a football scholarship to Boston University graduating in 1938. Mr. Ross first worked in the Boston Naval Yard, before joining the U. S. Navy as a First Lieutenant where he served from 1944 to 1946. After his discharge, he worked in construction until his retirement. Besides his parents, Mary and Thomas Ross, he was predeceased by his wife, Mildred Pennell of Boston; his three sisters, Carmel Avella, Camille Liquori, and Rose Kana; and his three brothers, James, Joseph, and Angelo Ross. Survivors include one brother, John Ross and his wife, Esther of Whitehall; and several nieces and nephews. The Ross family would like to thank Patricia Walkup and her dedicated staff at "Just Like Home" for their excellent care and kindnesses during these past two years. Teague, Lucius C. GLENS FALLS -- Lucius C. Teague, 90, a 40 year First Street, resident, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2005, at the Eden Park Health Care Center in Glens Falls, after a short illness. Born on May 15, 1914, in Portsmouth, N.H., he was the son of the late Origin S. and Louise (Metz) Teague. He married Marie Oakley in 1939 in Bridgeport, Conn. She passed away in 1987. Mr. Teague's work included being a landlord for various Glens Falls and Queensbury rental properties. In the 1950s, he had a motel in Lake George. For a time, he sold real estate, worked at Native Textiles and drove a taxi. Mr. Teague was an avid tennis player in his younger years and played competitive hockey into his 70s. Three brothers, Warren, William and Julian, as well as a sister, Ernestine, all passed away before him. Survivors include two sons, Bruce Teague and his wife, Pam, of Gainesville, Fla. and Brian Teague of Glens Falls; two grandsons, Ryan Teague and Mark Teague, both of Gainesville, Fla.; a brother, Paul Teague of Portsmouth, N.H.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. His family suggests memorials in the form of contributions to Planned Parenthood, 135 Warren St., Glens Falls, NY 12801.
