Schoonover Lashway "Dort" Long Lake -- Dorothy "Dort" V. Schoonover Lashway Beers, age 63, of South Hill Road, died early Thursday morning, May 12, 2005, at her home surrounded by her family. Born on June 2, 1941, in Equinunk, Wayne County, Pa., she was the daughter of J. Neal and Dorothy Ann (Collins) Schoonover. She was a graduate of Lake George High School. Dort was a 29 year employee of the United States Postal Service, serving as postmaster in Kattskill Bay, a position that was previously held by her mother. She retired from the post office in 1992. She married Eugene Beers on Dec. 28, 1991, in Bolton Landing. They moved to Long Lake in 1998. She was a member of the Long Lake Fire Department Auxiliary and had served as the treasurer. Dort enjoyed collecting teddy bears, bowling and traveling. She especially enjoyed the trips to Hawaii and to their Las Vegas time share. Survivors besides her husband of 13 years include four daughters: Karleen Bognaski and her husband, Vince, of LaFargeville, Jenny Buckman of Fonda, Kenya Lashway of Queensbury, and Becky McDonald and her husband, Mick, of Gansevoort; two sons, Jay Lashway and his wife, MaryBeth, of Hudson Falls and Brian Lashway of Glens Falls; four step-daughters: June Beers of Warrensburg, Judy Baker and her husband, Steve, of Queensbury, Joyce Constantine and her husband, Albert, of Queensbury, and Janice Beers of Bolton Landing; five granddaughters; nine grandsons; four sisters, Mary Wakeley of Pitcairn, Pa., Marie Lashway of South Glens Falls, Jean Duel of Middle Granville, and Bonnie Geary and her husband, Richard, of Greenfield Center; one brother, Jim Schoonover and his wife, Donna, of Queensbury; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Henry's Church, Long Lake. The Rite of Committal will be in Long Lake Cemetery, Long Lake. Private family visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday. Friends and family may call Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. Henry's Church Hall, Long Lake. Bonacker, 97, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at The Landing of Queensbury. Born on Aug. 31, 1907, in Rensselaer, he was the son of Adam and Margaret (Appleton) Bonacker. Mr. Bonacker graduated from Rensselaer High School. He was a member of the Rensselaer basketball team that won the state championship and was cheered on by his future wife, who was a Rensselaer cheerleader. Mr. Bonacker was the city clerk for Rensselaer in 1932. He loved bowling. Benjamin married Catherine Poole in 1941. They moved to Glens Falls in 1950. He was a salesman for Glen Auto Supply. In 1960 he opened Warren Auto Supply in Warrensburg, retiring in 1973. Besides his parents, Benjamin was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Catherine (Poole) Bonacker; two sisters, Margaret and Elizabeth; and three brothers, George, William and Adam "Ed" Bonacker. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited and may call from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., on Saturday, May 14, at Regan & Denny Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury. "Gus" Mattison Jr., died unexpectedly Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. He was born March 24, 1956, in Ticonderoga, the son of Harold A. Mattison Sr. of West Hebron and the late Ethel (Anderson) Mattison. Harold owned and operated Culison Art Design in Salem, where he was an artist. Some of his hobbies included artwork, horseback riding, gardening, cooking, reading, writing and he especially loved spending time with his family and friends. Besides his father, he is survived by one son, Olin Burch of Granville; three brothers, Jerry and Annette Mattison of West Hebron, Timmy and Holly Mattison of Belcher and Randy and Bezzie Mattison of Granville; one sister, Penny Mattison of Saratoga; his companion, Edward J. Culp of Salem; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at McClellan Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Shaffer, age 85, of Eddy Road, died Wednesday afternoon, May 11, 2005, at Indian River Nursing Home, Granville. Born on July 19, 1919, in New York City, he was the son of Frank E. and Anna E. (Fenn) Shaffer. Warren served in the United States Army as Staff Sergeant in the 55th Fighter Group during World War II. He earned the Distinguished Unit Badge with Oak Leaf Cluster, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was employed by New Jersey Bell in Fort Lee, N.J. for many years prior to his retirement. Warren enjoyed World War II movies, watching the History Channel and World War II model airplanes. He was predeceased by one brother, Franklin Shaffer. Survivors include three nephews, Steven Shaffer, Douglas Shaffer and Clifford Shaffer. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, N.J. (Jillson) WHITEHALL -- Doreen A. St.Clair, 76, went peacefully home to the Lord on Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at Haven Health Center in Rutland, Vt., surrounded by her loving family. Born on Dec. 30, 1928, in Whitehall, she was the daughter of Stewart and Dorothy (Day) Jillson. Doreen was a graduate of Whitehall High School and Ellis School of Nursing. As a registered nurse, her career included many years of employment at Glens Falls Hospital as a staff nurse and assistant director of nursing. She was later employed as school nurse at Whitehall High School. Doreen was a 25-year participant in the Harvard Nurses Research Project. She was proud of her affiliation with Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and enjoyed her various genealogy projects. She was an original Adirondack Red Wings season ticket holder and a member of their booster club. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. Doreen will be remembered as a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her nephew, Steven R. Jillson. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, James A. St.Clair Sr. of Whitehall, whom she married on Sept. 30, 1950; and their children: Denise Gilchrest and her husband, Butch, of Shushan, Jacquelyn Nichols and her husband, Thomas, James A. St.Clair Jr. and his fiancee, Susan Davis, and Jean O'Brien and her husband, Michael, all of Whitehall; her grandchildren: Ian Gilchrest of Shushan, Brooke Mowatt and her husband, Justin, Carly and Troy Nichols, Taylor, Jordan, and Luc St.Clair, Courtney Davis, and Lauren and Paul O'Brien of Whitehall; her brother, Richard S. Jillson of Whitehall; and a special aunt, Blanche Jillson Callery of Johnstown. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 13, at Jillson Funeral Home, 46 Williams St., Whitehall. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery. Stanton, David G. GRANVILLE -- David G. Stanton, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at Indian River Nursing Home. Born June 1, 1921, in Chadwicks, N.Y., he was the son of the late Rev. Ira and Iva Stanton. Dave graduated from Catskill High School and attended Plattsburgh State and the University of New Mexico. He served in the United States Army during World War II in North Africa and Southern France, and was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Upon discharge from the service, he taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Truthville. He then dedicated 35 years of his life to the Emma Laing Stevens Hospital and served in many capacities including lab technician, X-ray technician and administrator. Dave was instrumental in the organization of the New Emma Laing Stevens Hospital, located on Route 40 in North Granville. He was a Rotarian in Granville for many years and was a past president and also was a member of one of the local fire companies. Dave lived his life for his family and was an avid New York Yankees fan. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Dolores "Dolly" K. Stanton. Survivors include one sister, Violette Nestlen of Athens, N.Y.; one brother, Richard Stanton of Wappingers Falls; his children: Sharon S. Stephenson and her husband, Glen, of Glen Lake, Deborah S. Berke and her husband, Philip, of Granville, David J. Stanton and his wife, Luanne, of Middle Granville; his grandchildren, one granddaughter and four grandsons: Ashley Stanton, Ryan D. Thomas, G. Christopher Stephenson, Eric S.Stephenson and Cory D. Stanton; one great-grandson, Frank A. Thomas. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
