She was resident of Bellevue Woods in Cordova, Tenn. for 10 years. Muriel was born in Warrensburg, graduated from Syracuse University; and subsequently resided in Pennsylvania, Illinois, Massachusetts, and Tennessee. She was a member of Advent Presbyterian Church in Cordova. Muriel was a devoted homemaker, mother, and school teacher. She was predeceased by her husband of more than 50 years, Howard Roy Berkenstock, and a grandson, Seth Clemens Berkenstock. Survivors include three sons: H. Roy Berkenstock, James Turner Berkenstock, and Gary Ford Berkenstock; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 14, at First United Church of Christ in Spring City, Pa. Burial will be at St. Vincent's Cemetery. Published in the Post-Star on 5/14/2005. Fish, Geraldine C. ARGYLE -- Geraldine C. Fish, 89, of Argyle, died Thursday, May 12, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born on Sept. 4, 1915, in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of Herbert and Leah (Durrin) Colvin. She married Francis Fish on April 27, 1937, in Fort Edward. She was a devoted and loving wife. Mrs. Fish was an active member of the Pine Knolls Alliance Church of South Glens Falls and was formerly active at the Village Baptist Church in Fort Edward. In her earlier years she was an accomplished seamstress, and she enjoyed caning and ceramics. Besides her parents, three brothers, Herbert Colvin, William Colvin and Bernard Colvin, and two sisters, Irene Fish and Tressa Bertrand, also all died before her. Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Francis Fish of Argyle; her children: Daryle Fish and his wife, Ruth, of South Glens Falls, Patricia Abrahamson and her husband, Richard, of Argyle and Gordon Fish and his friend, Sharon Corlew, of Fort Edward; nine grandchildren: Ann Greene and her husband, Pat, Daryle Fish and his wife, Caryl, Scott Fish and his wife, Katie, Diane Sprague and her husband, Scott, Pam Bice and her husband, Sean, Todd Abrahamson and his wife, Kathy, Dan Abrahamson and his wife, Stephanie, Beth Payne and her husband, John, and Charlene Bell and her husband, Ben, 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. At Mrs. Fish's request there will be no calling hours. Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Saturday, May 14, at Pine Knolls Alliance Church, 614 Gansevoort Road, South Glens Falls. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Union Cemetery, Fort Edward. Herman, Bruce "Big Dog" FORT ANN -- Bruce "Big Dog" Herman, 56, passed on to Harley heaven, on May 12, 2005, after a long illness, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on Oct. 4, 1948, in Cobleskill, he was the son of the late Doris and Erwin Herman. Bruce lived in Greenfield Center and Fort Ann. He enjoyed Harley's, any event with bikes, tattoos, loved hunting, fishing, trapping, canoeing, the Adirondacks, along with traveling. He was a graduate of South Glens Falls High School and BOCES Technical. He was employed by Jarts Corp when he got out of school, and went to work for the State of New York, Wilton Developmental Center/Capital District DD SO, for which he held different positions, and was to retire with 35 years of service due to his illness. Bruce was a past member of HOG, CSEA., NRA, ABATE and Loyal Order of Moose. Survivors include two sisters, Donna Howk of Queensbury and Joan Proper of St. David Church, Va.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and so many friends. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation in Bruce's name to the Washington County Hospice, 415 Lower Main St., Hudson Falls, NY 12839, who helped Bruce make ready for a peaceful journey. (Champagne) Mudge, age 77, of Towner Road, passed away peacefully, Thursday evening, May 12, 2005, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 14, 1927, in Corinth, she was the daughter of Paul and Ruth (Walker) Champagne. Betty had been employed at International Paper Co. in Corinth, the glove factory, the Hitching Post, the Community Center and the William J. Varney American Legion Post No. 862, Lake Luzerne. She worked at Hadley Luzerne Central School for 17 years. She was a member of the William J. Varney American Legion Post No. 862 Auxiliary and the Hudson Sacandaga VFW Post 5836 Auxiliary, Hadley. She was a 44-year member of the Luzerne Hadley Fire Department Auxiliary. Betty loved spending time with her family. She loved her grandchildren dearly and was a proud fan at many of their games and horse shows. She also enjoyed shopping (she was especially fond of purchasing items with "some assembly required" for her family), bowling, camping, knitting, crocheting and crafts. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Gerald "Doug" Mudge, who died on Dec. 30, 2000; two brothers, Paul Champagne and Francis Champagne; one sister, Celia Springer. Survivors include three daughters: Linda Hayes and her husband, Bruce, of Lake Luzerne, Connie Wood and her husband, Alan, of Lake Luzerne, and Laurie Gawet and her husband, Albert, of Center Rutland, Vt.; eight grandchildren: Julie Barber of Clemons, Douglas Wood and Brittany Wood of Lake Luzerne, Alan Michael Wood of Plattsburgh, Krysta Gawet, Kaitlyn Gawet, Olivia Gawet, all of Center Rutland, Vt., and Douglas Hayes of Redding, Calif.; two great-grandchildren, Sophia Elizabeth Barber and John Barber III of Clemons; three sisters: Alice Hathway of Toppenish, Wash., Hilda Ziegler and her husband, Edward, of Hadley, and Sharon Kelso and her husband, Robert, of Warrensburg; a sister-in-law, Shirley Zbozanski and her husband, Joe, of Hadley; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Brewer Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Church St., Lake Luzerne, with the Rev. Flossie Gage Bates officiating. Private family visitation will be held today at the funeral home. Burial will be at Luzerne Cemetery, Lake Luzerne. Published in the Post-Star on 5/14/2005. Rogers, Fred D. QUEENSBURY -- Fred D. Rogers, 90, passed away Friday, May 13, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. He was born May 29, 1914, in Glens Falls, the son of Bernard and Frances (Connor) Rogers. He was a World War II Army veteran. Fred was a milkman for Borden Company retiring in 1977 after many years of service. He and his wife Marion delivered Meals on Wheels for 8 years. Fred enjoyed bowling, golf, and the horse racing at Saratoga. He went to 40 National ABC Tournaments and was a life member. He was a charter member of Glens Falls Bowling Association. He was in the local Hall of Fame, 700 Club and the Glens Falls Bowling Association Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Employees League at Pine Lane from 1964 - 1965 to 1985 - 1986, and the Glens Falls Inter-City League at Broadway Lanes for 30 years 1974-75 to 2005. He was also secretary and treasure for both leagues. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Marion Rogers of Queensbury; his children, Marion Longden and her husband, Robert, of Fort Edward, Fred D. Rogers Jr. and his wife, Rosemary, of Glens Falls, Sandra Hunt and her husband, Ken, of Cibolo, Texas, Terry Rogers and his wife, Debra, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., William Rogers and his wife, Mary Ann, of Glens Falls, Knox Rogers and his wife, Judith, of Sedona, Ariz., Michele Jarvis and her husband, Sam, of Allentown, Pa.; one brother, William Rogers and his wife, Harriet, of Glens Falls; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private. Interment will be at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Schuylerville. Vaughn, 68, of Route 9L, Lake George, passed away Friday morning, May 13, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, following a short illness. Born Feb. 15, 1937, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Fredrick and Helen (Irish) Vaughn. Don attended the one-room schoolhouse on the corner of Bay Road and Route 149 until his enlistment in the United States Air Force in May of 1955 until his honorable discharge in September of 1963. While stationed in Texas, he met and, two weeks later, married 14-year-old Blanche Osteen, sharing 45 wonderful years together until her untimely passing on Don's birthday, Feb. 15, 2001. On March 15, 2002, one month after dating, Don married the second love of his life, Freda (Palmer) LaBarge, sharing three short, but close, loving years together until his untimely passing. Don worked for the town of Queensbury at the landfill as a heavy equipment operator, retiring after many dedicated years of faithful service. His enjoyments included ice fishing, going for rides to view the beautiful Adirondack scenery and wildlife, cruising on his favorite motorcycle, and traveling both near and far to play bingo with his wife and family. Above all, Don truly loved his family. He always looked forward to visiting with his kids and grandkids, getting together to eat, or to simply chat about all the events a typical day might bring, especially about the wildlife he would see. Besides his loving wife, Freda Vaughn of Lake George, survivors include one son, Donald Vaughn and his fiance‚, Lynn Morehouse, of Glens Falls; one daughter, Tina Parker and her husband, William, of Athol; nine stepchildren; seven grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; onegreat-granddaughter; two sisters, Mary Lou Goodson and her husband, Dave, of Stony Creek, and Sue Miller and her husband, Marvin, of Florida; one daughter-in-law, Judy Mabb of Glens Falls; a former daughter-in-law, Carol Morrison, also of Glens Falls; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. At Don's request, there will be no calling hours. A casual attire memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 17, at 2 p.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, with the Rev. Dawn Robbins, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Warrensburg, officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in loving memory of Don to Glens Falls Hospital, 3WB Oncology Unit, 100 Park St., Glens Falls, NY, 12801. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of 3WB Oncology Unit of Glens Falls Hospital, with special recognition to Dr. Martelo and Dr. Ambrad, for all of their care and comfort provided to Don.
