Russell "Russ" QUEENSBURY -- G. Russell "Russ" Brown, 72, of The Landing in Queensbury, passed away Friday, May 13, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital, where he had been a patient since May 5. He was born July 15, 1932, in Herkimer, the son of Giles Darwin and Marie Van Wyk Brown. Mr. Brown was a graduate of Herkimer High School and the General Motors Institute in Flint, Mich. He resided in Johnstown for a number of years. Mr. Brown was first united in marriage to the former Janet Sweet and later married the former Rita Christian, who passed away in 1996. Mr. Brown joined his father in the operation of Brown Brothers Chevrolet-Oldsmobile in Herkimer and was then employed by Benson Chevrolet in Utica. For 20 years, he was employed for Bowman Products in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was named "Quota Buster of the Year" many times, and worked for the last 10 years as a salesman for Original Equipment Components located in Medina, Ohio. He was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the Herkimer Masonic Lodge. Mr. Brown was a passionate downhill skier and served on the Royal Mountain Ski Patrol. He loved antiques, jazz music and traveling abroad with his children. He also served as a docent for the Hyde Collection in Glens Falls. A son, Kevin A. Brown, died in 2003. Mr. Brown is survived by two daughters, Karen M. Sprung and Deborah A. Brown-Peterson, both of Gloversville; a son, Bruce R. Brown of Panama City, Fla.; and one sister, Donna Lacy of Syracuse. He is also survived by one granddaughter, Amanda Braswell; one grandson, Bruce R. Brown; two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Brown is also survived by his special friend, Shirley Abeline of Ilion, N.Y. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, May 20, at Ehle Funeral Home, 15 N. William St., Johnstown. A memorial service will immediately follow at noon Friday. Cremation will take place at Leatherstocking Crematory, Cherry Valley. DeKleine, Sophia QUEENSBURY -- Sophia DeKleine, 82, of Queensbury, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 15, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born May 23, 1922, in Wyden, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Pal and Maria (Toth) Lawrence. On July 5, 1938, Sophia married Rein L. DeKleine. Sophia and Rein lived in Deer Park, Long Island, where Sophia enjoyed raising their four sons. She enjoyed being a homemaker and taught her sons how to cook, clean, and sew. In later years, Sophia moved to Queensbury, where she enjoyed the quiet years of retirement with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Mary, and four brothers, Paul, Michael, John, and George Lawrence. In addition to her loving husband of 66 years, Rein L. DeKleine, survivors include four sons: Paul DeKleine and his wife, Barbara, of North Myrtle Beach, S.C; Rein DeKleine and his wife, Doreen, of North Babylon, their children, Nicholas and Amanda; Warren DeKleine and his wife, Sandra, of Diamond Point, their children, LeeAnn, Brittany, and Kyle; and Kenneth DeKleine and his wife, Annemarie, of Chestertown, their children, Daniel, Holly, and Jeanmarie; four sisters: Helen Hoff of Bayshore, Edith Milkon of Newton Falls, Ohio, Elizabeth "Betty" Lanziscra of Brooklyn, Margaret "Margie" and her husband, Raymond Loughlin, of the Bronx; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. At Sophie's request, a direct cremation with no funeral services will be honored. Doubleday, 27, a resident of Blue Barnes Road in Rexford, and formerly of Schuylerville, died Sunday, May 15, 2005, at Albany Medical Center as the result of an automobile accident on Thursday, May 12, in the town of Malta. Born Aug. 24, 1977, in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of James and Sherry (Cornell) Doubleday Jr. of Schuylerville. Dru was a graduate of Schuylerville Central School and attended Adirondack Community College in Queensbury. He was employed as a technician for Time Warner Cable in Saratoga Springs. Dru was a former member of the Schuyler Hose Co. and the General Schuyler Emergency Squad. He was predeceased by his grandfather, James Doubleday Sr. Survivors in addition to his parents include his fiancee, Alicia Gauthier of Rexford, and their unborn son, Nevan; one brother, James E. Doubleday III and his companion, Carol Cheney, of Schuylerville; grandparents, Bruce and Virginia Cornell of Victory Mills, Mary Doubleday of Schuylerville, and Peg Jeram of Saratoga Springs; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Hamelin, 85, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2005, at The Stanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Queensbury. Born on June 21, 1919, in Ausable, she was the daughter of Raymond and Marjorie (Thomas) Pelkey. Hilda was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family and baking. She was a 4-H leader for 10 years in Saratoga and volunteered at Glens Falls Hospital. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Henry F. Hamelin, on Dec. 25, 1997; two brothers, Albert Pelkey and Alfred Pelkey, one sister, Violet Mayette, and a granddaughter, Renee Dion. Survivors include her children, Henry J. Hamelin and his wife, Pauline, of Saratoga Springs, and Marjorie Dion of Arizona; her grandchildren, Ian Hamelin of Saratoga Springs and Jolene Dion of Long Island; one sister, Alberta Patten of Glens Falls; and one brother, Raymond Pelkey of Keeseville. "Duke" Harmer Jr., 89, of 1502 Route 9, died early Saturday evening, May 14, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by his loved ones, after a brief illness. Duke was born Feb. 18, 1919, in Passaic, N.J., the son of Leon D. and Mary McIntosh Harmer. He and his wife, Ena, were the owners of LaCasa Restaurant in Schroon Lake for 43 years. They retired in 1989. Duke was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ena Sorge Harmer; his son, Leon D. Harmer III of Schroon Lake; and his sister, Doris Clark of East Sandwich, Mass. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Schroon Lake, with the Rev. Richard Sturtz, pastor, officiating. Monette, Philip Joseph WHITEHALL -- Philip Joseph Monette, the fiddler, recently of 405 county Route 9, Whitehall, formerly and first a Vermonter, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 15, 2005. Born in Colchester, Vt., he was the son of the late Henry and Mable (Greenwood) Monette. He graduated from Randolph Agricultural School, worked on farms at a young age, was a car salesman, sold and repaired farm equipment for the John Heinz Engineering Co., built garages and was a housebuilder and mason. Phil loved to play the fiddle, was in several bands and played for community events. In the last few years, he discovered he could sing and was learning to play a small accordion. He was predeceased by his ex-wife, Jean LeClerc Monette; three brothers, Ernest, Clarence and Charles; and sisters, Germaine Lafley, Cecilia Young, Leona Potvin and Doris Hoyt. Phil is survived by his friend of 24 years, Elaine Senecal Jones of Whitehall; five children and their spouses: Cherie and Ben Benoit, Andre and Margaret Monette, Sharon Sweeney, Sheila and Tim Perrotte and John and Kerri Monette, all of Vermont; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Theresa Fraser of Pleasant Valley, Fla., and Rowena Bates of Williston, Vt.; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Born July 21, 1937, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Marjorie (Rivers) O'Leary of Hudson Falls and the late M. Francis O'Leary. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy in Glens Falls. Nancie was most recently employed as a Realtor with Coughlin and Coughlin. She was also a member of the Tenplus One Club. Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by a son, Christopher Pepin of Cromwell, Conn.; two daughters, Claire Hatfield and her husband, David, of Middletown, Conn., and Catherine Peters and her husband, Michael, of Meriden, Conn.; three brothers, William O'Leary of Edmond, Okla., Michael O'Leary of Las Vegas, Nev., and Patrick O'Leary of Gansevoort; four sisters: Marion Nichols, Marjorie Bacon, Bridget Davis, all of Hudson Falls, and Judith Chagnon of South Glens Falls; three granddaughters, Lauren and Emily Hatfield, and Kayla Peters; and several nieces and nephews. TeBordo, Ernest Fort Lauderdale, Fla. -- Ernest TeBordo, 69, formerly of West Hebron, and Northport, Long Island, and 4316 Jackson St., Hollywood, Fla., passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at St John's Nursing Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Born Sept. 26, 1935, in West Hebron, N.Y., he was the son of Edmund and Hazel TeBordo Ernie graduated from Salem Central School in 1952. He then went on to Albany State Teachers College as a math major, where he graduated in 1956. He taught for one year in North Babylon, Long Island, and then on to Japan teaching for one year the children of military personnel at the base there. He then went onto Copaique for three years. In September 1963, he went to teach at Cold Spring Harbor and retired from there in 1991. Ernie enjoyed people and traveling. His love was the computer and he taught senior citizens at his condo complex in Florida after he relocated there to live out his retirement years. He loved his family very much and attended every celebration there was, up north. The friendships he made along the way were special to him and he made a lot of them. Besides his parents, Ernie was predeceased by a brother, George; a sister, Kathleen TeBordo Adams; two sisters-in-law, Alice Harris TeBordo, and the Rev. Terri Stine TeBordo; two brothers-in-law, Spike Adams, and Harold Engwer; a stepmother, Grace Payne TeBordo. Survivors include a sister, Patricia TeBordo Engwer of Glens Falls, a brother, the Rev. Born Nov. 13, 1922, in Pittsfield, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Anthony B. and Almira Ann Nelson Morrison. She was the widow of Donald K. Tripp, who died in 1999. Mary was a graduate of Mechanicville High School. She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, the Mechanicville American Legion Post Ladies Auxiliary and the Ladies Home Bureau. Survivors include two sons, Donald K. Tripp II of Clifton Park and David Tripp of Canajoharie; two daughters, Doreen Draiss of Mechanicville and Tomi Tripp of Hudson Falls; one brother, Anthony Bud (Marie) Morrison of Mechanicville; eight grandchildren; and several great- grandchildren.
