She was born July 6, 1934, in Cambridge, the daughter of the late Franklin and Margaret Hedges McLenithan. Joyce graduated from Cambridge High School and was employed at the Cambridge Valley Livestock Market before becoming a homemaker. She loved flowers and enjoyed gardening at her home. Joyce was an active member of the Shushan United Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School for 42 years and was involved in many organizations and committees within the church. She was a member of the Committee for Youth for Christ. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Neil R. Adams; two sons and their wives, Raymond and Lori Adams and Brian and Sandy Adams, all of Shushan. Joyce is also survived by her sisters and brothers, Ruth Skellie of Greenwich, Stanley McLenithan of Salem, Lorraine Bovard of Grove City, Pa., and Glenn McLenithan of Cambridge. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Sarah Lourie, Laura Adams, Cassandra Adams and David Adams, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her brothers, Charles McLenithan and Irving McLenithan. Relatives and friends are invited to attend services on Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the Shushan United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Boyd Heldring officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at the Evergreen Cemetery in Salem. At Joyce's request, there will be no calling hours. LaCarte, Gail Leslie Henry PHOENIX, Ariz. * Gail Leslie Henry LaCarte, 46, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Hudson Falls, passed away Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. Gail was born May 31, 1959, in Glens Falls Hospital. She was a graduate of Glens Falls High School, an employee at C R Bard in Glens Falls and for the past 10 years she was a stock keeper for Honeywell IAC in Phoenix, Ariz. Gail leaves her husband of 22 years, Joseph R. LaCarte Sr.; a son, Joseph R. LaCarte Jr., both of Phoenix, Ariz.; her parents, Kenneth and Mary Dutcher of Spring Hill, Fla.; three brothers: P. Gene Henry and his wife, Rayna, of Gansevoort and their children P. Gene Henry II and his wife, Carrine, Denise Sesselman and her husband, Chad; Glenn Henry of Cohoes and his children, Tonia Balfour and her husband, Craig, Michele Mallory and her husband, Tim, Adam and Rebecca Henry. Gerald Henry of Queensbury and his children, Craig and Todd Henry; two sisters, Genette Henry and her friend, Tim McCarthy, of Las Cruces, N.M., and their children, Shannon, Lyndsay and Sean. Joanne McTiernan and her husband, William "Chip" of Phoenix, Ariz., and their daughter, Lauren; nieces, Rebecca Aldous and her husband, Roger, of Granville, and Nicole Dutcher of Queensbury; two very special sisters-in-law, Marva Foster of Fort Edward and Lynne Smith of Glens Falls; and numerous extended family members. LeGrys, Mary Lou South Glens Falls * Mary Lou LeGrys, 68, formally of Cambridge, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving children, on Friday, Nov. 4, 2005. She was the widow of Donald LeGrys, who died in 1991. Born on Feb. 6, 1937, in Bennington, Vt., she was the daughter of Raymond and Elizabeth McKeighan. A devoted mother and homemaker, she returned to school after her youngest left home and earned her nursing degree after which she worked in the emergency room at Glens Falls Hospital. Mary Lou enjoyed cooking and was an avid golfer, scoring "two" holes in one. Survivors include a son, Tom LeGrys of Queensbury, Barbara Pratt of East Greenwich and Rob LeGrys of San Marcos, Calif.; four grandchildren, Monica Pratt, Michael Pratt, Sean LeGrys and Jordan LeGrys; one sister, Caroline Sweeney of South Glens Falls; one brother, Mick McKeighan and his wife, Joyce, of Arizona. Friends and relatives are invited to call on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge. The Rev. Published in the Post-Star on 11/5/2005. McCullen, William E. NORTH GRANVILLE - William E. McCullen, 94, of North Granville, passed away on Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, after a short illness. Bill was born on Jan. 21, 1911, in Duryea, Pa., the son of Michael and Martha (Dubroski) McCullen. Bill was a veteran of the United State Army. He was also a member of the American Legion. Bill owned and operated his own slate manufacturing business. Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased be his wife of 52 years, Gertrude McCullen. Bill is also predeceased by five brothers: Michael, Pete, Henry, Jake and John McCullen; one sister, Mary Lockwood; and three stepchildren: Donald and John Mulhall and Jean Danforth. Bill is survived by seven children: a son, Ted McCullen and his wife, Carolyn, of North Granville; a daughter, June Bartley and her husband, Frank, of North Granville; a daughter, Wilma Fenton and her companion, George Jamieson, of Eastville, Va.; a son, Robert McCullen and his wife, Ruth, of North Granville; a son, Dan McCullen and his wife, Carolyn, of Hudson Falls; a son, R. Lynn McCullen and his wife, Joanne, of Black River, N.Y.; and a daughter, Sandra Tatko and her husband, Ray, of Middle Granville, 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers: Frank McCullen and his wife, Yvonne, of Cambridge, Larry McCullen of Hampton, and James McCullen and his wife, Dorothy, of Granville; and a sister, Helen Marra of Middle Granville. Some of Bill's happiest moments were spent on his porch with all of his friends and family, who would stop by for a visit to listen to the latest tall tales of Truthville, enjoy a frosty beverage and listen to the endless number of jokes he would tell. At Bill's request, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service, officiated by the Rev. Gebo, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 7, at Bethany Cemetery in Truthville. Phillips, 58, of Countryside Adult Home, Schroon River Road, Warrensburg, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 2, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital following a long illness, with his loving family by his side. Born Aug. 1, 1947, in Glens Falls, he was the beloved son of Nora (Mattison) and the late Martin H. Phillips. Shortly after attending Glens Falls High School, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1964 during Viet Nam serving aboard the USS Ingram. He was honorably discharged in 1966. Admiring the beautiful Adirondacks was one of his many enjoyments since he was a nature lover. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching television. Marty had a great sense of humor and was very witty, which we will greatly miss. Survivors include his loving mother, Nora Stark of Glens Falls; one sister, Patricia Leroux and her husband, Thomas, of Queensbury; two nephews, Matt Leroux and his wife, Lisa, of Queensbury, and Mike Leroux and his wife, Vicki, of Glens Falls; two nieces, Lisa Rojeski and her husband, Steve, of Gansevoort, and Traci Fayette and her husband, Patrick, of Glens Falls; also several great-nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. Rathbun, 46, of Truesdale Hill Road, passed away, Thursday, Nov. 2, 2005, at the Glens Falls Hospital follow a long illness, surrounded by her loving family. Born March 14, 1959, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Richard and Irene (Marshall) Lamphier of Lake George. Darlene was a lifelong resident of the area and attended the Warrensburg Central School. For more than 16 years, Darlene was employed at O'Sullivan's Motel in Lake George before the onset of her illness. She married Vincent J. Rathbun on June 9, 2001, and the couple enjoyed camping on Garnet Lake. She also loved to read romance novels. Her paternal grandparents, James and Iva Lamphier and her maternal grandparents, Peter and Mary Marshall have all predeceased her. Survivors besides her husband and parents include her children, John L. Smith III of Lake George, Brittany M. Smith of Stony Creek; her half sister, Anna Campbell of Forks, Wash.; her two brothers, David Lamphier of Bellingham, Wash., Marshall Lamphier of Rome; her sister, Cheryl Kenyon and her husband, Mark, of Athol; one grandson, John L. Smith IV of Lake George; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. "Rocky" "Peanut" Rowell Jr., 78, of Murdock Avenue, Glens Falls, passed away Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by his loving family following a short illness. Born May 14, 1927, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Roscoe E. and Gertrude M. (Hermance) Rowell Sr. Rocky enlisted with the U. S. Navy on May 24, 1945, and served on the USS Perkins, Frank Knox and the Hugbee ships earning the Asiatic Pacific Medal, American Theater Medal, and the Victory Medal, being honorably discharged Feb. 1, 1953. Shortly after returning from his tour of duty, Roscoe met and later married Marilyn Duchaine on May 18, 1947, sharing seven children and 58 wonderful years together. For many years, Rocky was a member of the Local 83 Sheet Metal Workers Union out of Albany, and most recently was a plumbing and heating contractor serving the Glens Falls area until his retirement. He enjoyed working around the house and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Besides his parents, an infant daughter, Debbie Rowell, and one brother, William Rowell, predeceased him. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Marilyn Rowell of Glens Falls; three daughters: Linda Gee and her husband, Roy, of Georgia, Donna Bedard and her husband, Mike, of North Hartland, Vt., and Diane Genier and her fianc‚, Brian Eddy, of Fort Edward; three sons, William Rowell and his wife, Dawn, of Chestertown, David Rowell and his wife, Shari, of South Glens Falls, and Timothy Rowell and his wife, Jennie, of Keysville; 13 grandchildren: Debbie, Billy John, Jessica, Jennifer, Michelle, Ashley, Alicia, Tiffany, Nicholas, Travis, Scott, Brittney, and Timothy Jr.; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Tremblay and her husband, John, of Queensbury; one brother, Donald Rowell and his wife, Irene, of Glens Falls; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. HAYWARD, Calif. * Mary E. Volpe passed peacefully at her home in Hayward after a brief illness on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005. She leaves behind her husband, Edward G. Volpe. Ed and Mary, Hayward residents since 1947 after moving from Hudson Falls, N.Y., celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary April 30, 2005. Her loving son, Edward A. Volpe, former Captain with the Alameda County Sheriff's Department, preceded her in death in 1997. Mary was the oldest of seven children of Edward and Beulah Payne of Albany, N.Y. Her brothers, Kenneth and Walter Payne, and her sisters, Helen Durkin and Lorraine Schey, preceded her in death. She is survived by her brothers, Harold and Robert; her son, Richard; her grandchildren, Mark, Brian, Teresa, Melinda, Steven, and Meredith; and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, at Machado's Hillside Chapel, 1051 Harder Road, Hayward, Calif. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, at St. Joachim's Catholic Church, 21250 Hesperian Boulevard, Hayward, Calif.
