GLENS FALLS -- Stanley M. Anderson, 81, of Carleton Court, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, at Albany Medical Center. Born on Aug. 27, 1924, in Jamestown, N.Y., he was the son of the late Marvin F. and Amelia (Ohman) Anderson. Stan graduated from Bemus Point High School and then from Cornell University College of Agriculture in 1949. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the 5th Army Artillery Division in Italy and Africa. After graduating from Cornell, Stan was hired as an assistant county agent in New Hartford, N.Y., and went on to being the county director at the Hudson Falls Field Office of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service. Stan married Lois White on March 11, 1950, in the Lutheran Church in Ithaca. The couple formerly lived in Argyle from 1959 to 1980. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed many outdoor activities from hunting, fishing and archery to flying planes, receiving his pilot's license in 1950. He also enjoyed boating, motorcycling and gardening. He was a gifted water dowser and enjoyed baseball and football. He loved photography and received numerous awards for his black and white landscapes of Washington County. He was a lifelong builder who built his own sailboat, a camp at Lake George and as a retirement project, his current home in Glens Falls. Stan was a former member of the Argyle United Methodist Church, the Fortsville United Methodist Church and currently attended the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church. In 1982, he was one of the founding members of the Local Chapter of NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees). On Aug. 7, 2005, Stan and Lois attended the 100th Anderson Reunion in Jamestown, N.Y. He was also a member of the Moreau Community Center Bike Club. Survivors besides his wife of 55 years include his children: Karen Mezs and her husband, Maris, of Lakewood, Wash., Eric Anderson of Tacoma, Wash., Ruth Singer and her husband, Sheldon, of Delmar, Iver Anderson and his wife, Pat, of East Greenbush, and Susan Anderson of Norwalk, Conn.; his grandchildren: Marisa and Robert Mezs, Nathan, Herschel and Isaac Singer, Ryan and Sarah Anderson; his two brothers, Manley Anderson and Wallace Anderson and his wife, Norma; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Published in the Post-Star on 10/14/2005. Beebe, Thomas E. GRANVILLE -- Thomas E. Beebe passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005. Tom was born on Jan. 19, 1944, in Glens Falls, the son of Willis and Dora (Johnson) Beebe. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving with the 11th Armored Cavalry 3rd Squadron Blackhorse troopers. Tom was employed at Sheldon Slate Products for 36 years as a heavy equipment operator, a job he loved. He helped to get the Case Tractor Puling Team going. He loved being outdoors. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, who knew him as "Poppy." Tom liked fixing up bikes for all children. He served as a volunteer firefighter with the Hebron Fire Department for 20 years. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Willis and Dora Beebe; a brother, Richard Beebe, and a brother-in-law, Milton R. Case Jr. Survivors are his stepmother, Josephine Beebe; his wife, Patricia Beebe; a son, Thomas Beebe and his wife, Desiree; and a daughter, Melissa Gabert and her husband, Mark. He is also survived by a sister, Betty Stevens and her husband, Dennis; a brother, Robert Beebe and his wife, Gretchen, and a brother, Timothy D. Beebe; his grandchildren: Adam R. Beebe, Jennifer C. Putnam, Mark Willis Gabert, Elizabeth M. Gabert, Ethan Thomas Beebe and Logan Tyler Beebe; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Leroux, Ernie MOREAU -- Ernie Leroux, 69, passed away after a long battle with cancer, on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born on Aug. 26, 1936, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Albert and Corinne (Prevost) Leroux. He was a veteran of the United Sates Navy. Prior to opening his own bookkeeping and residential real estate rental business, Ernie was a bookkeeper for various local businesses. He loved having family gatherings, especially if they were with his grandchildren. His love for music was shared by his wife and children, along with his appreciation for the simple things in life such as flower gardens. Ernie was a diehard New York Yankees fan and an avid sports enthusiast. He was a bowler, a high school basketball referee, a softball pitcher known as "Vida Blue," and a softball umpire. He enjoyed a good game of Pinochle and found solace spending time at his lakeside home and his home in Florida near the ocean. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Lou Leroux and Father Ed Leroux. Survivors include his wife, Lynn Leroux of South Glens Falls; daughters, Laurie Engle and her husband, Jim, of Burnt Hills, Linda Strainer and her husband, David, of Queensbury, and Lisa Leroux-Stevens and her companion, Bruce Layman, of Queensbury; sons, David E. Leroux of Argyle, and Peter Steves and his wife, Kathe, of North Carolina; grandchildren: Benjamin Engle, Jennifer and Brian Stevens and Lindsay Leroux; nieces and nephews, Elaine Buckton, Frankie Leroux, Johnny Leroux, Rene Leroux, Lisette King and Andre Leroux. Losee, Calvin Young SALEM -- Calvin Young Losee, 75, of Salem, died Wednesday night, Oct. 12, 2005, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vt. after a long illness. Mr. Losee was born in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., the son of the late Winfield and Mildred Young Losee. Cal graduated from Hastings on the Hudson High School and received his master's degree from St. Lawrence University. He performed his undergraduate studies at Hope College in Holland, Mich. Cal served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict. He was a social studies teacher at the Salem Central School, retiring after 35 years of service. Cal was a member of the Francis J. Clark American Legion Post 812 in Salem, the Cambridge-Salem Lodge Free & Accepted Masons, and was very involved in many teaching organizations. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Evelyn Berens Losee; three children, Steven Losee and his wife, Laurel, and their family; Jeanette Losee, and Linda Reece and her husband, William Clapp, and their family, all of Salem. He is also survived by a brother, Dwight Losee of Williamstown, N.J. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Marold, 75, of North Hebron, died peacefully Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, at his home in Alpharetta, Ga., surrounded by his loving family. Better known as "Pops" to his family, he was born Sept. 19, 1930, in Narrowsburg, N.Y., the son of the late George R. Marold and Marion Marold Hopkins. John graduated from Hempstead High School in 1948 and from the Ohio State University, in 1952, where he played football. John then served with the U.S. Army in Korea. He received his master's degree from Hofstra University. He was employed for 31 years with Uniondale School District, where he taught physical education, health, and drivers education, and coached many sports. After retiring to North Hebron, he enjoyed gardening and working on the small farm he called "Camelot." He had a lifelong love of sports, especially his Ohio State Buckeyes, and the New York Yankees. In addition, he was employed at times for the Granville Sentinel, Johnson's Fuel, and Granville School District. His last years were spent in Alpharetta, Ga. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Granville and St. Brendan's Church in Cumming, Ga. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his cousin, Adelaide Meith. Survivors include his wife, Alice; his children, Pamela Holmes and her fiance, John Easley, of Springfield, Mass., and John Marold of Hubbardton, Vt.; stepchildren, James and Irene Torino, of Bentwood, Tenn., Dr. Donald Torino of Durham, N.C., Michael Torino of Burbank, Calif., and Eileen and Dale Eneberg of Alpharetta, Ga.; and his brother, Robert Marold of Skykomish, Wash. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren: James and Jessie Holmes, Michael Monet, Alysa and Joseph Torino, Aimee Fortier, and John and Jackson Eneberg; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Matthews Sr., 81, of Bryn Mawr, Pa., the founder of American Flexible Hose Co., passed away Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, after a brief illness. Francis was born Jan. 2, 1924, in Hudson Falls, the son of William and Mary (McGrath) Matthews. He graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1942 and Union College in Schenectady. Mr. Matthews served his country in the United States Naval Air Corp and obtained the rank of lieutenant. Following college, he worked for the Metal Hose Division of Anaconda American Brass Co. In 1964, Francis started his own company, The American Flexible Hose Co., located in Havertown, Pa. Mr. Matthews enjoyed bird watching and spending time with his grandchildren. He also greatly enjoyed his times in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a son, Francis J. Matthews Jr. and a sister, Rita Matthews. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Jessie (Caul) Matthews; a son, Christopher Matthews and his wife, Stephanie; three grandsons; and two sisters, Marie Harris and Dorothy "Dot" Fitzgerald. O'Hare, Gertrude GUILDERLAND -- Gertrude O'Hare, 78, formerly of Lake Luzerne, Washington, D.C., and Albany, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, at home in Guilderland. Gertrude was valedictorian of the Class of 1944 from Hadley-Luzerne Central School in Lake Luzerne. She graduated with honors from Syracuse University. She worked for the National Lead Co. and RPI, and was secretary to New York State Commissioner of Education, James Allen. She continued in that position when he became National Commissioner of Health, Education and Welfare in Washington, D.C. She was secretary to Arthur Levitt Sr., New York State Comptroller and later to his predecessor, Ned Regan. Gertrude was a member of the First Church of Albany, Reformed, and since moving to Guilderland two years ago, she attended the McKownville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed volunteering in many organizations including her church and was a patron of the arts. She handled her many illnesses with courage, dignity and an accepting spirit. She was the daughter of the late George M. O'Hare and Hazel Shaw O'Hare. A brother, George J. O'Hare also died before her. Survivors include a brother, Frederick (Alice) O'Hare of Hudson Falls; a sister-in-law, Ruth Parker O'Hare of Guilderland. She was "Aunt Gert" not only to her many nephews and nieces and their children, but also to many beloved friends. Quinlan, Thomas Lee SOUTH GLENS FALLS -- Thomas Lee Quinlan, 64, of Hudson Avenue, passed away on Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, at his home. JAY COUNTY, Ind. -- Barbara B. Wilkinson, an award-winning journalist, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 11, 2005, in Plainfield, Ind., of an apparent heart attack. She had been dealing with congestive heart failure for more than two years. Born Oct. 3, 1962, in Cambridge, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Lyle C. and Jacqueline B. Wilkinson. She was a graduate of Greenwich Central School and St. Bonaventure University. Barbara moved to Jay County, Ind., in 1990, when she became news editor of the Commercial Review Newspaper. She was named managing editor in 1997. She was president of Epsilon Phi Chapter of Delta Theta Tau Sorority. She had been active in Jay County Civic Theater and was past president of that organization. She was a past board member of the Indiana Press Managing Editors. She was an animal lover. Besides her parents she was also predeceased by three brothers, Thomas, Michael, and Lyle C. Wilkinson II. Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Jaye and John Hayner of Ocala, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Lee Ann Wilkinson of Greenwich; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Valarie and Steven Batchelder of Greenwich; two nephews, Brad Wilcox and Derek Wilkinson and two nieces, Rebecca and Jillian Wilkinson, all of whom she adored. She is also survived by her animals "kids" she loved so much - dogs, Paws and Suede, and kitties, Booker, Charlie, and Jynx. She leaves behind many friends in Portland and Jay County, Ind., and upstate New York. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.
