She had also been a part-time resident of Juno Beach, Fla. for the past 15 years. She was born to Nora and George Griffing in Hormel, N.Y., and married to the late James T. Haggerty of Cortland. Upon receiving aneducation degree from SUNY Cortland, Mary Lou embarked on her career with a teaching position in Bayport, Long Island, in 1940. World War II led her to join Grumman Aircraft, after which she worked as a classroom teacher for the School District of Lawrence, N.Y., until 1963, when she received her master's degree from Queens College and became an elementary guidance counselor for the district until her retirement in 1973. She was an early proponent and lifelong advocate for childhood enrichment and championed such programs as the District's Pre-Kindergarden program in 1965, and its Early Childhood Learning Center in 1971. She was a life member of NEA, President of the Nassau County Classroom Teacher's Association, and chaired the First Employment Opportunity Committee of the New York State Teachers Association. Not one to allow retirement to interrupt her commitment to serve, she moved to Queensbury where she became an executive secretary for the Family Service Association of Glens Falls from 1973 to 1977. Mary Lou was then director of the Warren County Youth Bureau until 1982, when she became the executive director of the Adirondack Prevention Services. Active in many local activities, she was also a member and past president of the area's chapter of ZONTA, a professional women's service organization. Illness led to her discontinuing full-time work and community activities in 1987. During her time in Queensbury, Mary Lou was also a communicant of St. Alphonsus Church in Glens Falls and in recent years she attended Corpus Christi Church in Ballston Lake. Besides her parents and her husband of 25 years James, she was also predeceased by her brother, George Griffing. Survivors include her sister, Elizabeth Hart of Long Beach, N.Y.; two daughters, Peggy Garcia and her husband, Tito, of Long Beach, N.Y., and Kathy Randolph and her husband, Chris, of Ballston Lake; her son, James (Mike) Haggerty of Queensbury; grandchildren, Damian, Kenny and Elizabeth Garcia, Christopher and Kimberly Randolph and James, Bryan and Daniel Haggerty. She also enjoyed the smiles of five great-grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at St. Alphonsus Church, Broad Street, Glens Falls. Burial will take place in Long Island Cemetery in Farmingdale, N.Y., at a time to be announced. Published in the Post-Star on 9/19/2005. Miller, Henry T. "Boots" SCHENECTADY -- Henry "Boots" T. Miller, 75, of Frank Street, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, at Ellis Hospital, after a long illness. Mr. Miller was born in Albany, moved to Schenectady as a child. He attended Schenectady schools. Mr. Miller had been a U. S. Marine veteran, serving in the Korean and China conflicts. He had been a member for 50 years of Local 12 in Albany of the Iron Workers, retiring several years ago. Henry enjoyed outdoor sports with his son and friends. He had belonged to the Woodlawn Sportsman Club and the Guan-Ho-Ha Club, a former member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians and had been a communicant of St. Luke's Church and St. Anthony's Church. He is survived by two children Michele (Tom) Tierney of Rotterdam and Michael (Cynthia) Miller of Salem; two grandchildren, Thomas Tierney V and Erin Tierney; lifelong friend and brother-in-law, Philip Cummings and Henry's companion, Earline Miller. Funeral service is Wednesday morning at 8:15 from the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, and 9 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Interment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady. Murray, 86, of South Glens Falls passed away Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at Saratoga Hospital after a short illness. Born April 20, 1919, in the town of Queensbury, he was the son of the late Daniel and Emily (Ball ) Murray. Daniel attended Glens Falls Schools before joining the U.S. Army where he served during World War II. He was enlisted from Sept. 9, 1944, through Oct. 20, 1945, in the European Theater. It was during this time that Daniel received the Purple Heart on April 25, 1945. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a current member of the Warrensburg Free Methodist Church. Daniel was employed by both Imperial Wallpaper Company and Hercules Inc. He was also a former water superintendent of Fenimore Water District. Daniel enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and photography. Besides his parents, his sister, Lillian Leroy, one brother, Thomas Murray and two grandchildren, Infant Murray and Christopher David Palmer, predecease him. Daniel is survived by one daughter, Eileen Palmer and her husband, Herbert, of South Glens Falls; and five sons, Daniel Murray and his wife, Hilda, of San Salvador, El Salvador, Franklin Murray of Hudson Falls, Walter Murray and his wife, Debby, of Cordova, Tenn., Stephen Murray and his wife, Carolyn, of Glens Falls, and David Murray and his wife, Beth, of Leesburg, Va.; his sisters, Beverly Gallup, Shirley Russell, Barbara Jarvis, and Emily Akins, all of Glens Falls. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren: Jonathan Palmer, Bridget Palmer, Daniel Murray, Andy Murray, Diana Flores, Karen Murray, Katie Murray, Bonnie Sullivan, Tara Murray, Aaron Murray, Colleen Herman, Cheryl Murray, Steve Murray, Kevin Murray, Sharon Parrish, Jeffrey Murray, James Murray and Ryan Murray. Also 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews survive Daniel. Funeral services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at Singleton-Healy Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road, Queensbury with Pastor Richard Leonard officiating. Scott, John Sheppard FRANKLIN SQUARE, N.Y. -- John Sheppard Scott passed away on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005. Mr. Scott was a lifelong resident of Franklin Square. He was a proud veteran of World War II. Mr. Scott was a dedicated member of the Franklin Square Civilian Patrol and a member of RSES. During his life he enjoyed a plethora of activities including track, tennis, astronomy and bird watching. He was also a Boy Scout leader. He was the beloved husband of the late Dora E. Scott; devoted father of Christine Thomas (John), Loretta Gallo (Jim) and the late William John and Stephen K. Scott. Loving grandfather of seven, and great-grandfather of three. Reposing at Krauss Funeral Home, Inc., 1097 Hempstead Tpke, Franklin Square, from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday. Interment to follow at Long Island National Cemetery, Pinelawn. Published in the Post-Star on 9/19/2005. Scriver, Frederick J. SOUTH GLENS FALLS -- Frederick J. Scriver, 80, of South Glens Falls, passed away Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at Mary's Haven in Saratoga Springs. Born June 26, 1925, in Troy, he was the son of the late Frederick and Helen "Nellie" (Legnard) Scriver. Entering the United States Navy, Sept. 20, 1943, during World War II, Fred served his country aboard the sub tender USS Griffin earning the American Theater Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal, and the Victory Medal, being honorably discharged May 20, 1946. On July 10, 1948, Fred married MaryAnn DePaul at St. Philip Neri Church in Westport. The couple resided in Elizabethtown, and moved to Warrensburg in 1960. In 1986, they retired to South Glens Falls. Fred worked for the New York State Department of Transportation, with more than 30 dedicated years of service. In the community, he was a lifetime member of American Legion Mohican Post No. 553 in South Glens Falls, having been Commander and longtime Chaplain. He was also a member of VFW Post No. 420 in Saratoga Springs. He was a former member and past president of the Board of Education in Warrensburg, and also belonged to Toastmasters. Fred was an accomplished public speaker and administered the American Legion Post No. 553 High School Oratorical Contest for many years, and also won the American Institute of Bank Annual Public Speaking Award consecutively from 1983 to 1986. Fred was the leader of his family, though quick to allow his wife, MaryAnn, to make the most important decisions. He always looked forward to a good cup of coffee and conversation with his friends at Wag's Northway Diner, and also enjoyed camping, fishing, snowmobiling, and most recently, following stock car racing, specifically Oakwood Racing's Lori Cary No. 96. In addition to his parents, his loving wife of 53 years, MaryAnn, who passed away May 2003, predeceased him. Survivors include his son, Stephen and his wife, Susan, of East Longmeadow, Mass., and grandchildren, Stephen Jr., Anthony and Sarah Scriver; his son, Joseph and his wife, Karen, of Queensbury, and granddaughters, Christine, Lauren and Rebecca Scriver; and his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Sean Cohan of South Glens Falls, and his grandson, Declan; also several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury. The American Legion Mohican Post No. 553 Honor Guard will stand guard from 6 to 7 p.m. and perform a brief service at 7 p.m. with full military honors. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at St. Michael's Church, Saratoga Avenue, South Glens Falls, with the Rev. Robert Nugent, pastor, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at St. Elizabeth's Roman Catholic Church Cemetery in Elizabethtown with the Rev. Mundy, pastor of St. Brendon's Catholic Church of Keene, officiating. Friends are invited to join the family for a gathering, in celebration of Fred's life, at the home of Joe Scriver, 14 Walton Court, Queensbury. Memorial donations, in loving memory of Fred, may be made to Mary's Haven, 35 New St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Dr. Mark Hoffman and his staff at Adirondack Cancer Care, and the staff and volunteers at Mary's Haven.
