Sylvia was born and lived her entire life in Cohoes. She graduated from the former Keveny Academy in Cohoes. She was the loving daughter of the late Anthony and Rose Pondillo Bartolomeo. She devoted her life to the care of her parents. She was a very devout, religious person and was deeply devoted to her Lord Jesus and His most holy Mother Mary. She willingly gave much of her time and energy to her faith and prayer life. For most of her life, Sylvia attended daily Mass and received her Lord in the Holy Eucharist. She was a communicant of St. Bernard's Church and a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society. For many years she attended various local churches, where devotions were held each month at night to adore and honor her divine Lord Jesus, exposed in the Blessed Sacrament. Sylvia was one of the original leaders of St. Bernard's First Saturday Devotions program, which honors our Blessed Mother with special devotions. She also regularly attended First Friday and First Saturday devotions at Holy Trinity Church in Troy. She was directly involved in, and a leader for, St. Bernard's Prayer Group in honoring our Blessed Mother by daily recitation of the rosary after Mass at St. Bernard's Church. Sylvia visited many shrines, including the National Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima at Washington, N.J., the Shrine of Devine Mercy in Stockbridge, Mass., and on many occasions the Martyrs Shrine at Auriesville. Unknown to many of her closest friends, Sylvia had a true devotion to angels. She prayed to them and to the seven Archangels, seeking their protection. Each day she would recite a special prayer and had a sincere devotion to her own guardian angel. Sylvia was employed for many years as an office clerk for the New York State Assembly. She was the devoted and loving sister of Grace M. Brennan, of Latham, Yolanda (Frank) Romeo of Clifton Park, and Anthony (Margo) Bartolomeo of Schroon Lake. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Cathy (John) Maiuccoro of Guilderland, Mary Grace (Jack) Reed of Farmington, Conn., Jimmy (Teresa) Brennan of Latham, Jimmy (Denise) Romeo of Clifton Park, John Brennan of Herkimer, Shari (Arthur) Derico of Rochester Hills, Mich., William Brennan of Albany, Tommy (Terri) Brennan of Cohoes, Anthony (Sue) Brennan of Clifton Park, Tony (Johanna) Bartolomeo of East Greenbush, Teresa (Vincent) Haley of Olmstedville, Gail (Armand) Fiore of North Hudson and William Brannon of Latham. She is also survived by 17 great-nieces and nephews and a very large extended family. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ltd., 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Bernard's Church. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Waterford. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Bean, Wallace "Wally" SOUTH GLENS FALLS -- Wallace "Wally" Bean, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, Glens Falls Hospital. Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of M. B. Buck, Steven Robert ARLINGTON, Vt. / WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Steven Robert Buck, age 62, a resident of West Palm Beach, Fla., formerly of Arlington, Vt., and White River Junction, Vt., died Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the Veterans Hospital in West Palm Beach following a battle with cancer. Born in Bennington, Vt., he was the son of the late Robert and Iverna Buck. He grew up in Arlington and graduated from Arlington Memorial High School. Soon after graduation, Steven went into the U.S. Army and went to Vietnam, where he proudly served his country. He later went to Nashville, Tenn., where he pursued his love for music and graduated from the Jeffran College of Steel Guitar. Steven returned to Vermont and started a family. He worked for many years as a bus driver for the Vermont Transit. He also worked for the town of Hartford, Vt. He played guitar in many bands and was known to many as the "Music Man." Steven was active in the White River Junction VFW. He loved his Harley Davidson and was a member of the U.S. Military Bike Club. He volunteered at many fundraisers and was involved in karaoke. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His survivors include his son, Bobby Veloz of Miami, Fla.; three daughters, Kelly Wood and her husband, Steven, of Fairhaven, Vt., Kathy Vaughan and her husband, Mike, of Fairhaven, Vt., and Angela Wadsworth and her husband, William, of Fort Edward;. stepdaughter, Leeann Gregory and Robert Jones of White River Junction, Vt.; a brother, Barry Buck of Berlin, N.Y.; a sister, Joann Buck of Arizona; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one niece and one nephew. He was predeceased by his wife, Elaine Buck. A public graveside service, with full military honors, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct . 8, at West Arlington Cemetery. Grogan, Bertha R. SHUSHAN -- Bertha R. Grogan, 79, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, Vt. She resided in Shushan with her son, Joe. Bertha was the wife of the late Waldo Grogan, who died on March 18, 1993. They were married on May 13, 1944. Bertha was born on March 7, 1926, in Berlin, N.Y., the daughter of William and Maude (Livingston) Lackey. She attended schools in Grafton and worked at the Undergarment in Hoosick Falls for several years. She was a former member of the Eagles in Hoosick Falls for several years. Bertha enjoyed bingo and spending time with her family. Survivors other than her son, Joe, include a son, James Grogan of Cambridge, N.Y.; her daughters, Gean McNair of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Belinda Stousal of Bennington, Vt.; two sisters, Maude and Nellie Lackey, both of Hoosick Falls. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her children: Sonja, Waldo Jr., Lynda, Lois, Albert, Carol and Ann Marie; sisters, Gertrude, Mabel, Lena, Mildred, Alice, Ida and Mary; and a brother, Bill. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St., Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the service at Grafton Center Cemetery in Grafton. Published in the Post-Star on 9/24/2005. Hunt Sr., Frank E. Granville -- Frank E. Hunt Sr. of Granville passed unexpectedly at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, Vt., on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005. Frank was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on April 13, 1941, the son of Frank Otis and Grace M. (Hutchins) Hunt. Frank retired in December 1997 from the New York State Department of Corrections as a correction officer with the rank of sergeant after 32 years of service. He loved going to work and being with his fellow officers in the Great Meadow Mess Hall. He often told people his favorite hobby was "going to work." Frank began his service as a volunteer firefighter at the age of 16. He served with the Saranac Fire Co. in 1957. He has been a firefighter for 48 years, having served with the Henry Hose Fire Co., JE Norton Hose Co., and the Granville Fire police. After high school, Frank joined the U.S. Navy serving 4 years, 1960 to 1964, aboard the USS Cambria during the Cuban Missile Crisis along with the two tours of the Mediterranean Sea. He was active in the community serving as a boys baseball coach with Granville Little League, a member of the Free and Accepted Masons of the Granville Lodge No. 55. He was very active with the Granville United Methodist Church having served on the Board of Trustees for many years. Frank was a Republican Committeeman for the town of Granville, as well as, a custodian for the voting machines. Frank loved working even after his retirement, driving a school bus for Granville Central Schools, driving his many friends from the Holbrook Adult Home and transporting dealer trades for McEachron Motors. Frank is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carole A. (Collins) Hunt. Also surviving is his son, Frank Hunt Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Granville, and his daughter, Judith Taylor and her husband, Ronald Taylor Jr. of W. Pawlet, Vt. In addition, he is survived by five grandchildren: Brianna, Nicole, and Gabriella Hunt of Granville and Mikayla and Ronald Taylor III of W. Pawlet, Vt. Frank followed his grandchildren everywhere and supported everything they did, included all their softball, basketball, field hockey and soccer games as well as Mikayla's horse shows. In addition to the many wonderful memories Frank's grandchildren will have of him, they will most certainly remember two phrases he repeated to them many times, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going" and "Keep on trucking!" Frank was predeceased by a sister, Judith Ann Hunt, in addition to his parents. In keeping with Frank's wishes, there will be no public calling hours or funeral service. Hutchins, 69, of county Route 24, Corinth, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at his residence with his wife, Donna, son, Shannon, and his sister-in-law, Diane, by his side. Mr. Hutchins was born in Rhinebeck, N.Y. He was a truck driver for most of his life and a former owner of H & P Hauling in Corinth. Hutch was an avid sportsman, loved NASCAR racing and enjoyed dining out with his wife, Donna. He is survived by his beloved wife, Donna Hutchins of Corinth; mother and stepfather, Florence and Ralph Derby of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two stepsisters, Donna Philmore of North Port, Fla., and Shirley Bush of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sons, Shannon Philips and his wife, Denise, of Johnstown, and William Tulk and his wife, Cheryl, of Williamston, S.C.; three stepsons, Delbert, Terrance and Robert Grant, all of Corinth; one daughter, Margaret Bardin and her husband, Ralph, of Glens Falls; two cousins, Helen Bartlett of Raleigh, N.C., and Frank Atwell of Phoenix, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren: Robin Bardin, Ralph Bardin and Carol Hopkins, all of Glens Falls, Colin Tulk of Willamston, S.C.; Casandra Tulk and Alexandra Tulk of Texas, J.W. Culburtson and Crystal Smith of South Carolina; two great-grandchildren, William Philips of Johnstown and Dillon Bardin of Glens Falls; a sister-in-law, Diana and her husband, Royal Donaldson, of Corinth; several nieces and nephews and other family members near and far. Born March 13, 1927, in Victory Mills, she was the daughter of Joseph Harry and Emily (McAuley) Drew. Jackie enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Fort Edward Garden Club and had operated a greenhouse at her home in Fort Miller. She had been a voting inspector for the town of Greenwich for 30 years. She was a communicant of Notre Dame-Visitation Church in Schuylerville, a member of the Old Saratoga Seniors, and a member of the Veerngheit Circle of Fort Miller. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Drew. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Charles "Pepper" Martin of Fort Miller; two sons, Craig Martin of Raceland, La., and Kevin Martin of Greenwich; two daughters, Marina Wilson and her husband, Brian, of Gansevoort, and Tamaris Dolton and her husband, Iliff, of Greenwich; a brother, Lynn Drew of Victory Mills; three sisters, Ann Spinks of Saratoga Springs, Catherine Pechette of Victory Mills, and Michele Gavaletz of Saratoga Springs; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Notre Dame-Visitation Church, with the Rev. Christopher Welch officiating.
