The submittor has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ************************************************************************ ALLEN MEMORIAL STONE Meeting House Road, White Creek, New York (Recorded 07-23-2000 by Marilyn Robinson and Wendy Baker-Lake) The Allen Memorial Stone is a large stone grist wheel approximately 4 feet in diameter which sits along Meeting House Road approximately 100 feet east of Quaker Hill Road. It has a round bronze marker attached to each side. FRONT: John Allen 1734 - 1826 his wife Mary Allen BACK: This millstone was erected in memory of John Allen and his wife Mary - Pioneer settlers to White Creek, New York. Born in Dartmouth Massachusetts - July 29 1734. Died in White Creek August 8 1826. It was in the saw and grist mill built by Gilbert their son the millstone lay on the site for more than a century. Placed here by appreciative descendents as a memorial the bi- centennial of his birth 1934. They lived in a log cabin until 1770 when he built the homestead which has remained in the family since dedicated by Allen-Stewart Association September 4 1936
