In the name of God Amen -- I Joseph Caldwell of the Town of Knisbury in the County of Washington and State of New York being weak in body but of sound mind and memory do make this my last Will and Testament as follows [viz.] first: I recommend my soul to the disposal of God who gave it, and my Dody to the dust from whence it was taken to receive a Christian burial at the Direction of my wife and children. As to my Worldly Estate with which Providence has Endowed me, I dispose, give and bequeath it in the following Manner[viz.] 1st. I will and positively order that all my Lawful debits be paid. 2nd. I give to my dear and Loving wife, the house and barn and small lot of land whereon I now live to her use benefit and behalf forever to sell, let of dispose of as she together with the advice of my Executors my judge most convenient, and further I bequeath to her use and benefit of the ten acres of improved land which I hold by Lease from the administration of my late son Samuel's Estate to use and enjoy during her natural life. I further give and bequeath to her on cow, my bed and beding, and such implements of housekeeping as my be needfurl for her comfort, and in addition to the above I give to my said beloved wife the one half of the Residue of my whole Estate Real and personal forever to use or dispose at her pleasure. 3rd. I give one dollar to each of the four children of my late son Samuel Deceased. 4th. I give to my grand daughter Anna Tallman one cow to be paid at my decease by my executors. 5th. I will and order that all the remaining part of my property be equally divided among all my children [viz.] William, Joseph, Mary, John, Elizabeth, Anna and Margaret. 6th. and lastly. I order constitute and appoint my trusty friends Col. Mathew Scott and Collins Hitchcock Esq. executors of this my last will and testament, In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this First day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eleven.
