Recorded March 19th, 1819. In the Name of God, Amen. I, Archibald Gillis, of the Town of Argyle, in the County of Washington, and State of New York do make this my last Will and Testament, in manner following, that is to say. I will and direct that all my just debts, funeral expenses, and the charges of proving this, my will, be fully paid and satisfied by my Executors herein after named, as soon as conveniently may be after my decease. I give and devise all the land I own in Farm Lot number One hundred and Seventeen, situate and being in the Town of Argyle aforesaid to my son John, his Heirs and Assigns forever. I give and devise Farm Lot number Ninety Eight, situate and being in the Town of Argyle aforesaid except so much thereof as lies North of the Creek whereon the Grist Mill is erected and West of the Public Highway to my son James, his Heirs and Assigns forever. I give and devise all the land I own in Farm Lot number One hundred and Fifteen, situate and being in the Town of Argyle aforesaid to my son Joseph, his Heirs and Assigns forever. I give and devise all the land I own in Farm Lot number One hundred and Eight together with the Grist Mill before mentioned and so much of Farm Lot number Ninety Eight as is excepted in the aforesaid devise to my son James, situate and being in the Town of Argyle aforesaid, to my son Alexander, his Heirs and Assigns forever. I give and bequeath One Thousand Dollars to my daughter Nancy, to be paid in equal proportions by my said sons John, James, Joseph and Alexander in four equal annual payments with interest. The first payment to be made one year after my decease, when the interest shall commence and be payable thereafter with the installments as they become due. I give and bequeath One Thousand Dollars to my daughter Catherine, to be paid in equal proportions by my said sons in the same manner and at the same times as are mentioned for the payment of the Legacy to my daughter Nancy. And the said devises to my said sons are upon this express condition, that they pay the Legacies to my said daughters which said legacies are hereby devised to be chargeable upon all my real Estate at the time of my decease. I give, devise and bequeath to my said daughters Nancy and Catherine all my household furniture including beds and bedding and clothing of womenswear to be equally divided between them by my executors herein after named. I give, devise and bequeath to my said sons John, James, Joseph and Alexander all the rest and residue of my estate, real and personal to be equally divided between them. And I also hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my said sons John and James Executors of this my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this Eighth day of December, in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand, Eight Hundred and Thirteen. Be it remembered that on the Eleventh day of March in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Nineteen, before me, Henry Martindale, Surrogate of the County of Washington personally came John Crary one of the witnesses to the preceeding will, who being by me duly sworn, on his oath declares that he saw Archibald Gillis sign and seal the will of which the preceeding is a copy, and heard him publish and declare it as and for his last Will and Testament. That at the time thereof, the said Testator was of sound disposition, mind and memory according to the best of the knowledge and belief of him, the deponent. That his name thereto is of his own proper handwriting which he subscribed to the same as a witness in the presence of the Testator, and that he also saw John McNeil and Janmes McNeil, the other two witnesses, subscribe their names thereto as witnesses also in the presence of the Testator. And be it further remembered that on the same day and year aforesaid also personally came before me the said Surrogate, James W. Gillis, John A. Gillis, Executors in the said will named and were duly qualified to the true and faithful execution of the said will by taking the oath of an Executor as required by Law. Henry Martindale Surrogate
