I, James Gillis of the Town of Argyle in the County of Washington and the State of New York, Farmer, do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following. Viz: I give and bequeath to my son Camel [Campbell] Gillis one third of my real estate taken from the South end of my farm clear across the lot. And I also bequeath to my son Alexander E. Gillis one third of my real estate to be taken from the East side of my farm after the first is taken off. And I also bequeath to James I. Gillis my son one third of my real estate taken from the West of my farm after the other two are taken off, reserving however, an equal proportion of wood land on the North end of the farm so that when divided each shall have an equal third of the whole farm. And also I bequeath to my son Archibald the sum of one dollar. I also reserve from each of my sons Camel [Campbell], Alexander E. and James I. Gillis, Forty Dollars to be paid yearly to my widow Peggy [Margaret]. And also out of my personal property I bequeath to my widow Peggy [Margaret] one good cow. I also bequeath to my daughter Eleanor my household furniture as also one third of my personal property. I also bequeath to my daughter Isabel one third of my personal property. I also bequeath to my daughter Nancy one third of my personal property. I also bequeath to my daughter Mary One Dollar. I also bequeath to my sons Camel [Campbell], Alexander E. and James I. Gillis all my outstanding debts and notes. All my expenses of sickness, burial so will be paid by my sons Camel [Campbell], Alexander E. and James I. Gillis whom I nominate, constitute and appoint Executors of this my Last Will and Testament hereby revoking all other and former wills by me at any time heretofore made. (signed) James Gillis (signed) Robert Wiley John Magee of Argyle Alex'r Hutchinson In Surrogate Court held at the Town of Granville in the County of Washington on the 28th day of May 1831 before Samuel Standish Jr. Surrogate of said County for the purpose of proving and recording the last Will and Testament of James Gillis late of the Town of Argyle in the County of Washington deceased pursuant to Chapter 5th Title 1st Article 1st Part 2nd of the Revised Statutes of the State of New York on the application of Campbell Gillis an Executor in said will named. Campbell Gillis this applicant appeared and no one to oppose. And thereupon this said applicant produced due proof of the service of notice on the heirs of the said deceased who all reside in the County of Washington, to wit: Alexander E. Gillis, James I. Gillis, Archibald Gillis, Eleanor Gillis, Isabel Gamble, Nancy McCoy, Polly Borden and widow Margaret Gillis, at least fifteen days before this day, of his intention on this day at 9 O'Clock in the forenoon of proving the said will before the said Surrogate at his office in Granville in said County. And the said will being produced and the subscribing witnesses thereto appearing testified as follows to wit: Washington County ss Robert Wiley, John Magee and Alexander Hutchinson of the Town of Argyle in said County each being first duly sworn disposeth and saith that he saw James Gillis deceased subscribe the instrument now shown this deponent and which purports to be the Last Will and Testament of James Gillis late of the Town of Argyle in said County of Washington deceased bearing date the Twenty Second day of March in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty One, that he heard the said James Gillis declare the same to be his Last Will and Testament, that he, this deponent did subscribe his name thereto as a witness at the request of the said James Gillis, and further that at the time thereof the said James Gillis was of sound mind and memory, of full age, and not under any restraint and further saith not.
