Biographical sketch from pp. 974-75 of the History and Directory of Yates
County, New York by Stafford Canning Cleveland, published 1873 at Penn
Yan, NY in chapter on the Town of Starkey.

            ISRAEL DAVIDSON.
     
    Born in Sussex county, N.J., in 1786, married there Martha Van Houten. 
They came to Ithaca, and thence in 1810 to Bennett's
Settlement, locating on the farm directly west of Andrew Raplee.
His wife died there in 1820.  His second wife was Luna Adsit.  They 
moved in 1836 to Hector where he died in 1859.  Their children by 
the first marriage were Rachel, Maria, Gardner and Jane.    Rachel married
David Wood.  Maria married Roswell Hurd, son of Aaron Hurd.   [From p.
901:  "Roswell T. [son of Aaron and Lucy (Thomas) Hurd] married Maria,
daughter of Israel Davidson, of Reading.  Their children are Rosetta J.,
Olive A., Henry W., and Byron L.  They reside at Watkins."]  Jane married
Richard Andrews of Hector.  They have a family of children, some of whom
are teachers of more than ordinary merit.
    William Davidson, the father of Israel, settled in 1810, on the 
Old Pre-emption Line, a short distance south of Starkey.  His wife 
was Ruth Gardner.  He died there in 1832, at seventy-three, and she in
1837, at seventy-five.  Their children were David, Rachel, 
Israel, Lewis, Peter, Henry and Catharine.  Lewis born in 1795, 
married Jemima Gannon in 1818.  She was born in 1797.  They were 
married by Richard Lanning.  They are still living at Rock Stream.  
They had a numerous family.  One is the wife of Reid Crandall, and 
another is the wife of John W. Osman.   [From p. 974 in sketch on family
of Ira Crandall:  "Reid born in 1828, [son of Ira (1785-1860) and
Experience (Pease) (1787-after 1872) Crandall] married in 1849, Jane,
daughter of Lewis Davidson.  She was born in 1830.  They reside near his
paternal homestead and he is a substantial citizen of the town. They have
a son Ira L."]  [From p. 943 in sketch on family of Daniel Shannon:
"Eunice born in 1793, [daughter of Daniel (1767-1851) and Elizabeth
(Wade) (1770-1800) Shannon, of Sussex Co., NJ] married Henry Osman, son
of Daniel Osman, who was born in 1783, in New Jersey, and came to this
county in 1807.  They resided on lot 8, of Watson's Purchase, about a
half mile west of Rock Stream.  He  died in 1855, and she is still living
. . . Their children were [list of 12 children] . . . John W. . . . John
W. married Celinda Davidson, and resides near the old homestead. They
have a daughter Adella."]
