Bentley | Esquires JRDrake | Judges Elijah Shoemaker | State of New York | Tioga County SS | Personally appeared in open court on the 4th day of September 1832 before the above named Judges now sitting Micajah Dean late a resident of the town of Milo in the County of Yates in the said State now of Elmira in the said County of Tioga, aged seventy nine years + upwards who being duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress passed June 7th 1832 - That he entered the service of the United States for the term of one month, in the month of March 1776 in a company of Militia in the County of Sussex, New Jersey, commanded by Capt. Joseph Harker in Col. Ephriam Martin's Regiment, was marched to the City of New York where he remained in the Service, until his term expired - In the Spring of 1776 he enlisted for the term of five months at Wantage in the County of Sussex aforesaid, in a company commanded by Captain William Bond, in Martin's regiment above mentioned, in Genl. Heard's Brigade, served it out. That he was in service in Westfield one month, (in New Jersey) but the name of the officer he has forgotten, in Martin's Regt. in Wind's Brigade, but cannot state his officers - In the Spring of 1777 he served two months at Elizabeth Town under Sergeant Westfall, in Col. Martin's Regiment as Gen. Heard's Brigade - In August 1777 he served out a month in Capt. Beckwith’s company in the Regiment commanded by Col. Ephriam Martin in Gen. Wind's Brigade - In the year 1777 in August or September he was out in an .... ..... .......... under Lieut. Duncan McVickar, Major Meth.... In 1777 he was also out in the full two months under Capt. Benjamin Coykendall of Sussex County, N. J. in service on the Minisink frontier - That he was frequently called out in alarm at various times and has no doubt that he served in all one year + probably more - In answer to the interrogations propounded by the War Department he says that he has no documentary evidence of his services in his possession that he was born in the County of Morris at a place called Fox Hill in Morris County N. J. served his time in the Blacksmith business at New Germantown in Hunterdon County, N. J. and before the commencement of the war removed to Wantage in Sussex County where he remained during the war, until about eighteen years since when he removed to Milo Yates County, N. Y. where he has continued until a few days past he has resided with his son in the Town of Elmira in the said County of Tioga -- He refers to Benjamin Coykendall of the Town of Veteran in the said County of Tioga an officer under whom he served for evidence of his services. He hereby relinquishes every claim what ever to a pension except the present + declares that his name is not on the Pension Roll of the agency of any State. Stele, Clerk Book E Vol. 4 Page 17 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Declaration In order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress of the 7th July 1838 entitled "An act granting half pay and pensions to certain widows State of New York| County of Yates | SS On this twentieth day of October 1843 Personally appeared before the subscriber a Judge of the court in and for said county Cornelia Ann Dean of Starkey in said county aged seventy nine years, who being first duly sworn, according to law, doth on her oath make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by act of Congress, passed July 7, 1838 entitled "An act granting half pay and pensions to certain widows" That she is the widow of Micajah Dean who was a soldier in the war of the Revolution, and a pensioner of the United States, that her said husband was a resident of the county + State aforesaid. She further declares that she was married to the said Micajah Dean in June 1781, seventeen hundred and eighty one in Sussex County, New Jersey; that she was not married to him prior to his leaving the service, but the marriage took place prior to the first of January, seventeen hundred and ninety four viz. at the time above stated. Sworn to and subscribed on the day | her and year above written, before me | Cornelia Ann X Dean mark Henry Welles a Judge of Yates County Courts I certify that the above named Cornelia Ann Dean is a respectable person that I consider her of the age represented by her, and from her great age and infirmity, she ought not to be required to appear in open court to make her Declaration Henry Welles a Judge of Yates County Courts State of New York | County of Yates | SS Personally appeared before the subscriber a Judge of the court in and for said county Margaret Swarts of Starkey in said county born 1784 aged fifty nine years, being duly sworn according to law, deposeth and saith, that the above named Cornelia Ann Dean who is applying for a pension as the widow of Micajah Dean, late a soldier in the war of the Revolution and a pensioner of the united States, is the deponent's mother + that the aforesaid Micajah Dean was the deponent's own father that this deponent's aforesaid father and mother as the legal fruit of their marriage has one daughter, own sister to this deponent older than this deponent, that this deponent's father aforesaid was a pensioner of the United States, that he died in March 1838 eighteen hundred and thirty eight, thinks it was on the 17th day of said March, that her aforesaid mother has not since married, but remains still a widow Sworn to and subscribed before me | her this twentieth day of October 1843 | Margaret X Swarts mark Henry Welles a Judge of Yates County Courts I certify that the above named Margaret Swarts is a respectable person - She apparently recollected every fact set forth in her deposition Henry Welles a Judge of Yates County Courts ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ State of New York| County of Yates |S.S. Personally appeared before the subscriber a Judge of the County Courts in + for said county Mary Strubal of Milo in said county Tevalt Swarts aged sixty six years, after being duly sworn according to law deposeth + saith that he is and has been for fifty three to fifty eight years and always since that time been well acquainted with widow Cornelia Ann Dean within named, who is applying for a pension as the widow of Micajah Dean late a pensioner of the United States, and this deponent deposeth + saith that the aforesaid Cornelia Ann Dean is the identical person and widow of the aforesaid Micajah Dean, late a pensioner, that this deponent has from his first .... .... and for more than fifty years been personally acquainted with the aforesaid Micajah Dean, the said pensioner, this deponent further deposeth + saith that he well recollect the aforesaid parties, Micajah Dean + Cornelia Ann Dean living together as husband + wife more that fifty years since that he well recollects that they had children as the legal fruit of their marriage some of them at this date are more than sixty years of age, or must have been living this deponent further deposeth + saith that he is intimately acquainted with the children of the aforesaid parties, and well does he v...., that they had and now have living five or six children over the age of fifty years, that the aforesaid Micajah Dean was a pensioner of the United States and died in March 1838, eighteen hundred and thirty eight, and that his widow the aforesaid Cornelia Ann Dean is still a widow. Subscribed and sworn before me| this 22th day of October 1843 | Tevalt Swarts Jun. Henry Welles Judge of Yates County Court I certify that the above named Tevalt Swarts is a respectable person that he clearly shewed that he recollected every fact set forth in his deposition. Personally appeared before the subscriber a Judge of the County Courts in + for said county Mary Strubal of Milo in said county aged fifty years, after being duly sworn according to law deposeth and saith that widow Cornelia Ann Dean within named who is applying for a pension, as the widow of Micajah Dean late a pensioner of the United States, is the deponent's mother, and that the aforesaid Micajah Dean the late pensioner of the United States was the deponent's father + that her aforesaid father and mother as the legal fruit of their marriage had four children older than this deponent all at single births, all of the same father + mother + all own brothers and sisters to this deponent, that her aforesaid father was a pensioner of the United States + died in March 1838 eighteen hundred + thirty eight, and that her said mother is still a widow.
