Clarke, in Starkey, Wednesday last, when their eldest daughter, Miss Nina L. Clarke, became the bride of Merlyn H. Wheeler of Dundee. The ceremony, which took place at high noon, was performed by Rev. Merrit Miller of Dundee in the presence of fifty invited guests. Mrs. H. S. Mills of Elmira presided at the piano and rendered "Lohengrin's" Wedding March as the bridal party took their places beneath an evergreen arch in the center of which hung a large Christmas bell. The music continued softly throughout the ceremony and during congratulations. The couple were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Florance, cousins of the groom, who were recently married. The bride was prettily gowned in white satin messaline, with fur trimming, and carried bride's roses. Her attendant wore cream taffeta and carried pink carnations. After congratulations a bountiful wedding dinner was served. Covers were laid for twelve at the bride's table, which was decorated with red, green, and white, with a basket centerpiece of holley. The decorations throughout were in keeping with the joyous Christmas season. The bride is a graduate of the Dundee High School of the class of 1915; and the groom of the class of 1913 and also of the training class. Many beautiful and costly gifts were received which attested to the esteem in which the young people are held by their many friends. Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler left on the afternoon train for a short wedding trip amid a shower of rice, confetti and good wishes. They will visit Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse. -- Unidentified newspaper clipping, probably Dundee Observer, from the scrapbook of Viola Emma Florance Rose, undated.
