Death Comes to Mrs. Wil- C. Sworts, of Dundee Mrs. William C. Sworts, of Dundee Dundee, Oct. 7. -- Mrs. William C. Sworts, one of the oldest women in this vicinity, and the wife of a prominent and wealthy farmer and president of the Dundee State Bank, died in her farm home about two miles north of this village at 9 o'clock last night. Her death had been expected since about a week ago when she was stricken with paralysis. Mrs. Sworts was 85 years old and until June 28th, of this year, at which time she fell and broke her hip, she had been as spry and active as most women twenty years younger. She was born in the town of Barrington, not far from this village, February 22, 1829. Her maiden name was Miss Mary Jane Rapalee and her father was Daniel Rapalee, one of the early settlers of this section and who for many years conducted an old fashioned tavern on the Bath road in the town of Barrington. She was married to Mr. Sworts January 20, 1853, they having celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on that date in 1913. They were one of the oldest married couples in this vicinity. Since the time of their marriage this is the first death to have occurred in their family, it having been the birthplace of her husband and his only home through life. The farm is the old Sworts homestead and has been in the possession of the Sworts family since 1807 when Mr. Swort's grandfather came here from New Jersey. Mrs. Sworts leaves her husband, four children, Miss Ursulla Sworts who lives with her parents,; Carpenter R. Sworts, of this village; R. Bonner Sworts, cashier of the Dundee State Bank; and Mervin Sworts who lives in the West, and a brother John I. Rapalee, of Barrington. The funeral will be held from the home Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock and burial will be made in Hillside cemetery. -- Unidentified newspaper clipping from the scrapbook of Viola Emma Florance Rose, probably Dundee Observer, Hand-dated 1914
