He leaves his wife, one son Rev. Albert Townsend, of Boston, Mass., and one daughter, Mrs. William Denniston, of Dundee, one brother, Oscar Townsend, of Yuma, Ariz., and two sisters, Mrs. Melvina Kiff and Mrs. Emma LaFever, of Los Angeles, Cal. Mr. Townsend enlisted in Company C., 140th New York Volunteers at Elmira, and served for two years and four months until he obtained his honorable discharge. He was engaged in eleven different battles and was wounded at the battles of the Wilderness and Bull Run. He was also present at the time of Lee’s surrender.
