Sellman (1965) Jeremiah Fenton was born in Frederick County, Virginia, in 1764. His father, also named Jeremiah, was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. After the war the family moved to Fayette County, Pennsylvania, where about 1789 Jeremiah married his first cousin, Rosannah Lawrence, daughter of John and Catherine Lawrence. Their children were William (m. Mary or "Polly" Kendall), Elizabeth (m. Joseph Eyler), Delilah (never married), John (m. Ruth Corns), Jesse (m. Mary Lawrence), Catherine (m. Benjamin Eckman), Jeremiah (m. Elizbeth Crozier), mary (m. John Baird), George (never married), Benjamin (m. Elizabeth Smith), and Joseph (never married). In 1806 Jeremiah Fenton brought his family ot Ohio and settled on a farm two and one-half miles northwest of Winchester in Survey 1043, on the Fincastle road. Here he resided until his death, May 10, 1841. His wife died September 25, 1845. They are both buried in the old cemetery in Winchester.
