Dalton, who was born in Kentucky on May 7, 1864 and departed this life November 14, 1933 being 69 yr. 6 months and 7 days of age at the time of his passing. He was the son of James and Barbara Dalton who have preceded him to the Great Beyond. He came to Adams Country in early childhood where he spent the remainder of his life, having been educated in the schools of Adams County, after which he entered the "teaching " profession for several years. He leaves to mourn his demise the following children: Anna B. Whitley and Sylvia Hill of Otway, Ohio; Barbara E. Cook of Springfield, Ohio; Henry Clay Dalton of Wisconsin; Walter S. and Charles W. of Urbana, Ohio; James H and Frank M. of Otway, Ohio. He also leaves 25 grandchildren, 2 sisters; Polly M. Spires of Peebles, Ohio and Ella M. Adkins of Otway,Ohio; one son William A. Dalton, two sisters Nola F. Waters and Laura B. Brumfield and two brothers JOhn H. and James L. Dalton are awaiting his coming to that "Celestial" City. He was striken with paralysis some two years ago and since that time he has bore his suffereing and misfortune with patience and fortitude. Tender care and attention were given by his children and his sister and brother-in-law with whom he had resided for the last six months. Everything available was done with the hope that he would be restored to former health but it was not in accord with God's will as he said "Come unto me all ye that are weak and heavy laden and I will give you rest." Brother Dalton united with the Wamsley M.E.Church 42 years ago and we believe that he has been a consistent member of the church, a loving father, a faithful brother and a sincere friend, whose vacancy will be hard to supply in the home, in the church and in the community in which he lived. He was benefactor to humanity, a lover of children and the children were kindly attracted to him. "To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die" and we truly believe his influence will live in the hearts of his children and his friends and that it will inspire them to a greater endeavor in helping humanity and serving our creator. We trust that his life will be a sweet benediction to all and that his Christian virtues will be emulated in the lives of the youth of our community. The familiar words of the Apostle Paul can be applied in his earthly career. "I know wom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that wich I have committed unto Him against that day." God gave him the welcome approbation, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant, thou hast been faithful over a few things, I shall make thee ruler over many things. Written by, Nelle C. Thompson Additional Comments: William Henry Dalton married, Laura Ellen Wamsley, in abt. 1891. She was the daughter of Hosea Moore Wamsley and Angeline Cullins Wamsley.William was the son of James L. Dalton and Barbara Bannister Crum. (The 1880 census on the Dalton family is confusing). James Dalton, William's father is said to be born in VA, in a later census it says West Virginia. Barbara is said to be born in Ky. The childrens parents are listed with parents born in different states. William H., John H., Pernola F., James L. and Polly, have parents both born in VA. While Ella M., Ulysses G. and Laura B. are listed as having parents born in KY and VA. Which would indicate Barbara Bannister as a mother. I am not so sure Barbara Bannister was the birth mother of the earlier children. All the children are listed as being born in KY, however.
