John Cline To Malissa Cokonougher Know all Men by these Presents that we John Cline and Aly Cline his wife of Adams County Ohio in consideration of the sum of Two Hundred and sixty Dollars ($260.00)to them paid by Malissa Cokonougher of the same place do hereby Grant Bargain Sell and convey to the said Malissa Cokonougher her heirs and assigns forever the following described Real Estate situate in the village of Peebles in the County of Adams and State of Ohio one Lower lot No(46)in the Town of Peebles as Designated on the on the plat Recorded in the Real Estate Records of Adams County Ohio said Lot being 60 feet in front by 160 feet Depht and all The Estate Title and interest of the said grantors in and to said premises to have and to hold the same with all the privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging to said grantee her heirs and assigns forever And the said John Cline and Aly Cline his wife does hereby Covenant and warrant that the title so conveyed is Clear Free and unencumbered and that they will warrant and defend the same against all lawful claims of all persons whomsoever. In witness whereof the said John Cline and Aly Cline his wife who hereby release her right and expectancy of dower in said premises have hereunto set their hands this 19” day of June in the year A.D. eighteen hundred and 89 Signed and acknowledged in presence of us Samuel Jones} John Cline (seal) W. M. Recorded July 15” 1889 William Cooper County Recorder" Additional Comments: Malissa Cokonougher was the widow of Adtson Ellsworth Cokonougher, and his second wife. He and she are enumerated on page 11 of the 14 June 1880 U.S. census of Meigs Township, Adams County, Ohio. The census showed that they had a child, Sylvester Cokonougher, aged 2 years at the time of the census. Malissa had three children from a prior marriage living with her and Adtson at the time of census. Their surname is not clearly written, and the closest that I can make out of it is Hrdjrs. Maybe someone else out there will discover other documents which can clarify the spelling of the name. Malissa was recorded as being age 44 at the time, and Adtson was recorded as being 55. Adtson was recorded as being a farmer, born in Virginia, as were both his parents. Malissa was recorded as being a housekeeper, born in Ohio, with her father born in Ohio and her mother born in Kentucky.
