This is a digital copy of the marriage affidavit of Christopher Cohenour (sic 
Cokonougher) and Betsy Dods (sic Dodds).  The text reads:
	"Know all men by these presents that we Christopher Cohenour and John 
Dods of Rockbridge county are held and firmly bound unto Thomas M Randolph 
Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia and to his successors in office for 
the use of the commonwealth in the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars – to 
which payment well and truly to be made.  We bind ourselves our heirs executor 
& administrator, jointly and severally firmly by there presents -  witness our 
hands and seals this 14th day of June 1821 ----.
	The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a 
marriage shortly intended to be solemnized between the above bound Christopher 
Cohenour and Betsy Dods – daughter of Alexander Dods decd.  If therefore there 
shall be no lawful cause to obstruct the same then the above obligation to be 
void else to remain in full force & virtue.

	This day John Dods personally appeared before me a deputy clerk for 
said county in said office & made oath that his sister Betsey Dods who is 
about to intermarry with a certain Christopher Cohenour is above the age of 
twenty one years – Given under my hand this 14th June 1821.

Additional Comments:

Christopher and Betsy Cokonougher moved to Adams County, Ohio sometime after 
their marriage.  Written documentation of their lives is scarce, but what 
little that there is, along with family oral tradition, shows the following 
information:
     CHRISTOPHER5 COHENOUR, JR.  (CHRISTIAN4 GOCHENOUR, JOSEPH3, JACOB2 
COCGHNOWER, JOHN/HANS1 GOCHENOUR) was born 11 March 1797 in Virginia (West 
Virginia)., and died Bet. 1847 - 1850 in Adams Co., Ohio.  He married 
ELIZABETH DODDS 14 June 1821 in Rockbridge County, Virginia, daughter of 
ALEXANDER DODDS.
	
The Children of CHRISTOPHER COHENOUR and ELIZABETH DODDS were:
	i.	JAMES6 COKONOUGHER, b. 30 May 1822.
	ii.	ZACARIAH COKONOUGHER, b. 16 June 1823, Virginia. 
	iii.	ADTSON ELSWORTH COKONOUGHER, b. 28 June 1824, Virginia; d. 21 
December 1882.
	iv.	CAROLINE COKONOUGHER, b. 18 December 1825, Virginia.; d. 19 
June 1919, Adams County, Ohio.
	v.	RUHAMA COKONOUGHER, b. 22 February 1827, Virginia; d. 27 July 
1906, Adams County, Ohio. Locust Grove Cemetery.  Franklin Township..
	vi.	MARGARETA (OR MALINCIA) COKONOUGHER, b. Abt. 1828, Virginia. 
	vii.	ELIZABETH (ELIZA) E. COKONOUGHER, b. 01 October 1829, Virginia 
(now West Virginia).; d. 26 February 1916, Peebles. Meigs Township. Adams 
County, Ohio..
	viii.	DELILAH COKONOUGHER, b. Abt. 1832, Virginia. 
	ix.	CHARLES COKONOUGHER, b. Abt. 1833, Ohio.

All of this information should be verified with documentation before it is 
considered totally accurate.
