V. I. Holding Annual Reunion at Delphos To-Day Excerpts from the article: The Nineteenth Annual Reunion of the 180th O. V. I. is being held at the City Hall in Delphos to-day. The 180th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry was organized at Camp Chase, O., in September and October 1864. with Colonel, Willard Warner, 1st Lieut. Col., Hiram McKay and 2nd Lieut. Col., John T. Wood, to serve one year. Summary of service: Left Camp Chase Oct. 15 for Nashville, Tenn. From Nashville ordered to Dechard, Tenn. Remained at Deschard for the most part of three months and was used as guard for the Nashville and Chattanooga Railroad. Jan, 6, 1865 ordered to Nashville to guard a train of wagons bound for Eastport, Mass. Went as far as Columbia and was ordered to return to Nashville. From Nashville, ordered to Washington City on Jan. 31, 1865 and placed in Camp Stoneman, near that city. After about three weeks ordered across the river to Alexandria; took a boat for Fort Fisher. Upon reaching the mouth of Cape Fear river, the fall of Fort Fisher was announced. The Regiment was then taken to Newburn, where it joined a force under General J. D. Cox, to open railway communication with Goldsboro and General Sherman’s army. At Kingston, N. C., Mar. 8, 9 and 10, they had an engagement with the forces under Generals Bragg and Hoke, in which the Regiment lost a number killed and wounded. From Kingston marched to Goldsboro, arriving Mar. 21. April 9 marched with Sherman’s army to Raleigh, N. C., where they performed garrison duty until Johnson’s army surrendered. They then moved to Greensboro, from there to Charlotte where they remained as city garrison. At Charlotte, July 12, 1865, mustered out in accordance with orders from the War Dept. Eighty-one members of the Regiment died during the year in service.
